HUGE into cars, new into VIP

Well, had my share of fun. Early 90's Del Sol and graduated to the drifting scene with a 89 240.
Here's a pic from a build thread I did
Forum image

But like many on here, I'm 27 and just had a baby (9/4/09 Angelina Ivy) and looking for something to settle down with with the wifey. Not the richest man in the world so I think I'm gravitating towards a 1st gen ls400. Haven't bought anything yet but that's what I'm looking at.
I think I've fallen in LOVE with JP. the exterior is just insanely awesome. I do think some things are a little bit cheesy for the interior but that's just my opinion. I would love to do a full JP exterior and just keep it simple inside. Maybe touchscreen DVD and just replacing all torn seats and replace/clean carpets. Maybe get some nice speakers for the inside (NOT TRUNK).
But my biggest question is the performance. A true luxary car always has a certain standard to meet when it comes to performance. And although a v8 is pretty good, the 1uz doesn't hold a candle to the ls430. And coming from a racing background I'm thinking forced induction and was looking at a roots SC over on another website. What does the VIP community think about performance?

Other than that, I just wanted to introduce myself.

welcome.

and to answer your performance question; many of the "VIP" cars that i've seen in Japan have boosted RB26's, SC V8's, boosted 2JZ's, etc. More so than here in the States.

Not all, but Most ppl here in the states when they jump into the whole "VIP" scene, they tend to not modify their engines so much. Ask 90% of these VIP cars on this sit to pop their hoods and you find stock engines. There are some who add power mods though. But VIP is more about beeing 'seen', rather than moving fast. Just think about it. Dudes who are running air bags and incorrect tire sizes don't really have intentions of running hard, just flossin. I have, however, found a couple guys on here who have a good balance of both.

Most non modded engines are going to be due to exterior not being completed. It seems most of the vehicles with mods done to the engine bay in JP have completed to some extent the exterior and have decided to move on to the engine.

thanks guys. I'm actually looking forward to start wrenching again. I'm going to try to start a VIP newb build thread when the time comes. Since I'm so new to the scene I will try to rely on people who know so I don't waste my money on stupid things. I'll try to keep things updated. I have to get my Audi sold first before I buy anything, and no I'm not going to try to do something with my B5. Electrical is a nightmare and am just so through with that car that I'm willing to let it go for cheap.

it actually is done. been done for a while. Old forum that was hosting the pics crapped out and moms comp that the pics were on also is now in the dumps too so this was a photobucket pic I had. It was being painted at the time so hence no hood or headlights.
It's sad because I went over all the stuff I've dropped on the coupe over the past 12 years and turns out I droped nearly 25k into it from repairs and parts. Really, everything is first class but that's just a lot of money for a 20 year old car.

I'll get some more pics up. It's at my boys house right now getting the wires tucked and I haven't been up there in nearly a month because of the baby to take new ones but as soon as I do I'll post. I'll try to be there this weekend so I can finish it up. I also just got my fuel cell in so I'll show some of our fab work too. Keep in mind that 99% of the car has been done by 2 people (me and my boy Gil) so it's been a HUGE learning experience in building a legit car. So much wasted money on junk, honestly, held back the project for a while too. I think I've learned from my mistakes and could build what I like and not just follow the crowd. If you notice the kit on my car is completely and totally one off. Completely built by myself. I mixed and matched different kits from different companies and spent almost a year perfecting the body lines. I don't think I have the patience to do that again.
