Moving to SD! Some help with the area please.

So the Navy is relocating my whole squadron to SD and I'm going to working out of Coronado Island.  I was wondering if anybody living in So Cal could suggest some good areas to live and some areas to stay away from.  I'm looking for a town home w/ a two car garage and the Navy is going to pay me $2018 a month for housing.   

The LS430 will be my daily driver so I need to try to live close to base / I hear traffic sucks too.

So far my wife and I have looked into Otay Ranch / East Lake / Rolling Hills.

Suggestions--------> GO!

yeah eastlake/otay is a good area smooth roads too, haha id stay away from national city/ paradise hills even though i grew up in those areas. Theres also ocean views homes alittle more south of otay/eastlake off the 805. And you can just take silverstrand to the coronado base.

I lived in a few different places in SD (all in Clairmont) 
 
Fox Run is a development in Clairmont that is pretty much a quiet, family type of neighborhood, good location, close to freeeway, beach, etc. Garages, pool/jacuzzi, etc. That's really the only place I can say from personal expierience that would be reccomendable. looking at your BAH rate you must be a E-5, I'm in the Navy too.  East lake is a nice place to live in and it would probably benefit you living there since your stationed out of Coronado; with all the traffic and everything.  Base housing is really nice to if you haven't considered that it's not all broke down like most naval base housing.

I live in The San Diego Country Estates In Ramona, it's outta the way (like 1hr from base) but you can get a nice home or condo for that much. Or try Rancho San diego anyways go to the Vip Fest, you will info there!

i'd say chula vista/eastlake. but eastlake is too far off the free way unless you want to pay 2.50 for the 125. pfffffffff. rip off.

yeah, i say eastlake otay also its not that far from the freeway depending where in eastlake/otay you live.

How bouT Sunbow, it's the closest to the 805 freeway and right next to otay area. Eastlake is way too far IMO. Also I heard otay ranch have u pay some community fees for security gate, and a bunch of bullshit rules u have to follow. Sunbow is also right next to the sharp hospital and Lolita taco shop a must have in your Area lol

Thanks everybody for your input but today my wife and I found a great place in Kearny Mesa.  I will be going to the VIP Meet on Sunday but I will be in my dirty and tired LS430 (Cross Country Trip)  Can anybody recommend a good car detailer in Lower SD area?  I can't wait to meet all you peeps in SD.
