megans vs tien cs

i did serach but not many info in comparison bettween the two beside that everyone had good things to say about both. i was wondering do these two ride the same, since everyone been saying thier both comfortable. like i heard the tien cs ride smoother then oem but would bottom out if u go to low . for the megans i heard it rode like oem but as u go lower u will still retain ride quality, since the spring prelode doesn't change when u lower it. everyone says both are good but which coilovers would u guys recomend for my fallowing

it be going on 2000 Ls 400

- 2.5 inch drop basically wat ever it takes to look flush from tires to fender
- want to retain as much ride comfort when lowerd on 19's
- want tha same or something close to oem ride when re-rasied for winter ( will be rolling on 16' winter tires )
- something that will work with UAS
- which one would have a better re sale vaule

i setted my budget at $2,000 for coilovers and since the canadian dollar is good right now both the tiens and megans aint too much difference in price. the tiens are for sale at $1,525 USD shipped which is a good deal vs $2,200 CAD + 300 install local. for the megans i haven't got any quotes but its around $1,200 - $1,300 CAD local.

thanks

If you want to go low I'd stay away from Tein coilovers, especially the CS. Megan is a good choice on a budget. JIC is preferred if you have the money and are willing to spend it.

I have a friend with the 97 LS400 and his car ride really good on megans & they go low his car is pretty dumped & he still has about 2 inches more of threads left,i can't compare them to teins but for the price, dump & ride quality they're good in my book.

P.S. the megans are going for a grand all day on ebay $1,250 i way to much for them.

Seriously, I think Megans suck but that;s my opinion. I had them on my mr2 and they rode like crap. If I had a chance to do it over again, I would of saved a little more money and bought better coilovers. You get what you pay for, right....

What do you mean by the Teins rode to soft? I am so up in the air about which coilovers to get myself... I have the UAS on KYB... and let me tell ya... KYB greys suck for air.. So I'm thinking tein, megan, Jic or JP... But I want a soft lux ride! Not a sport ride! So again please explain the softness issue with the Teins in more detail....

even if you setted a lil stiffer?

so over all u guys are saying megans is better cuz u can go lower and its cheaper but wat if i wasn't going for the super slamed look, would tien be better since i don't need it super low? when u guys say megans ride smooth would u guys consider it close to oem smooth when lowerd or tien would ride smoother when lowerd? im in the same boat as 20sburning as i still want that luxury lexus ride when lowerd.

it so hard to decide since both of them are at good price rite now and i need to make up my mind soon.. so hard. thanks for all the advice guys.

yea im on megans..def way more stiffer than stock. its hard to compare to stock due to the spring rates being fairly on the stiff side.

but its def worth the advantage.

Moot point. They were valved differently for your MR2.

I can say that I love my Megans. They can be ridden very soft and very low. I've got room to go lower all the way around and it still rides like a dream, caveat being harsh bumps when my UCA hits.
I didn't by the Teins because everyone says they don't go low and I didn't buy JIC's because I've read alot of horror stories about them needind to be rebuilt in a very short time and it's not cheap.
I've never read a bad review yet about Megans on Lexus'.
UAS does work on the Megans as PROJECTGS3 stated.
Lastly and I think most importantly my wife never even noticed a difference in ride quality until I hit a harsh bump. :pat:

I have Tein CS and a buddy of mine had Megan coilovers and I like my Teins better as far as ride quality. The megans can get you lower though. As far as comfort goes, Tein CS is the way to go, my friend w/ the Megans definitely noticed the ride difference when he drove my car. People who thought it was too soft probably didn't have it set correctly. For the price of Megans, it's definitely not bad at all.

Same here... Same car, (Infiniti M35) mine on Tein CS and a local forum member on Megans. He and I both liked the Tein better, but its subjective. Its whatever you like better, and honestly for the price, the Megan is a good competitor.

However, you also have to account build quality. I've never seen an actual problem with the Megans, but i've read on a couple of other forums where people have crazy horror stories about the Megans.

I just put TEIN CS coilovers on my '96 UCF20 and it rides very similar to stock and mine is set to full drop. I will admit full drop doesn't get as low as some of the hardcore vip guys on here with tucked tires, but full drop will get about as low as Shnitz's daily ride height pictured above. I luckily bought mine used under $800 shipped from a yahoo japan auction and preferred to go with TEIN in case they needed rebuilding, they are stateside. The option to put UAS on them was also a perk of going with TEIN. I came across several deals on used JICs for about $1000 shipped, but I was worried about rebuilding as I've had problems getting my Y33 JICs rebuilt. The stiffer spring rates of Megans and JICs pretty much led me back to the TEINs. Again, this is just me as my LS will be a very conservative build compared to the diehard guys on here. And finally, my wife could tell the difference when my previous cars were lowered, but she honestly says, that the LS still rides like factory, maybe about 10% stiffer.

thanks, i think im sold on tiens since it has the EDFC and it such a hassel to remove the back seat everytime i wanna change the rear damping. are u like 2 finger gap with the full drop? did u get to play around with the damping yet? if so wat setting do u have it on? on the side note did u sell ur y33 in ur picture? the car looks sick.

i have the CS and EDFC on my 2GS and it is no where near stiff enough or low enough for my liking. it rides close to stock which can be a plus depending what type of suspension you want. i would personally go with the JIC's if i had the chance to. but for now ill be swapping out the springs in the teins to go with something shorter and stiffer.

there's only 2 real issues here.

1) spring rate - tein will be more comfortable because of the low spring rates. even though you said you weren't looking to go super low i would consider this just in case: low + low spring rates = parts left on the road.

2) height adjustability - megan are full tap (don't lose travel when lowering) vs. the cs which are single tap (lose travel when lowering).

both companies are of decent or better repuatation (although i will always be wary of taiwanese/korean/etc. made parts).

personally, i'm going jic every time.

I'm at like a no finger gap on stock 16's. I'm not planning on EDFC, because there doesn't seem much difference going from full soft to full stiff. I've set it to full soft all around and left it there. It rides like stock, literally, but lower. Full stiff is where I say its like only 10% stiffer than stock, not much difference. It's true that the dampers lose travel as they go lower, but honestly they ride damn near close to stock if not stock. Knowing I can get them rebuilt later if needed is why I went with TEIN, plus I couldn't pass up a bargain on a barely used set. I can care less for going lower than it allows, being that low isn't that serious to me, like I said, I'm pretty conservative, and I've had my Y33 really low before, but it just isn't practical for me. BTW, thanks on the Q45 compliment, I sold my Y33 in my sig in April 2008 to another VSC member, who has then sold it to another VSC member a year later.

1) spring rate - tein will be more comfortable because of the low spring rates. even though you said you weren't looking to go super low i would consider this just in case: low + low spring rates = parts left on the road.

2) height adjustability - megan are full tap (don't lose travel when lowering) vs. the cs which are single tap (lose travel when lowering).

those are things i left out. all the way down + soft spring rates has lost me a few body panel pieces, nothing major, but i have had to replace clips and misc parts. not to mention my exhaust has taken a beating. the teins are too soft to ride all the way down.
