Inner Tie Rods (right and left)?

A shop said that they couldnt do a front alignment on my 2000 GS cause there was too much play and i needed to replace the right and left inner sockets. He said if he tried then there would be too much toe. I tried to look up the parts to buy but noone knows what these are. Perhaps they are called something else? Anyone know? Thx ahead!

Pls seriously i need some help...if a shop says it cant be done unless i pick up this part and i dont know what it is then im screwed..he mentioned that the parts were about $68 oem from lexus and that the play involved causes tracking (the car shifting when moving along grooves in the road..ex highway) and also vibration when breaking. I assume because of the inability to tighten the part..

they couldnt get them for you since he knew what they were already? or is this shop just alignment only and not general maintenance?

he said he could order them but couldnt get a deal, i can get one as i know ppl w/ lexus...

Is he talking about the caster arms? Those would affect toe. You can try to get a polyurethane kit from Daizen and replace the bushings.

Possibly the inner tie ends:shrug:..I'm not a Lexus expert..but the inner and outer tie rods on a car are related to alignment issues too.

You ask your homies at Lexus to see what could "Inner Sockets" be? I'm sure thats just a term they use at the alignment shop. Or try asking the shop what the proper name for that part's called. 
 
Or try taking it to the shop, ask them to raise it, even if it'd just be on a jack, and have them physically show you the parts you need replaced, right there on your ride. Maybe even snap a pic to show the parts guys while ordering to confirm the correct part. Or checking at home, maybe look for any blown ball joints, since those act as sockets, especially the Tie Rod joints, thats your toe adjustments. IDK just some ideas worth trying

I believe he ment the inner tie rods (after all nite reading up on spension parts) I found a good thread about them on CL. Thx for chiming in guys and heres the conversation FYI. Also, seems like this can be a common problem for most lowered vehicles in the 120k zone so never hurts to be aware of symptoms. Im going to call the shop to confirm my findings and big ups to Deesfd, Aynako, and Bippuprlex!!!!

Besides ebay where can i find the best price for oem replacement?

Carson Toyota. Just call and tell them you're from Club Lexus.

dont do ebay. verify that they arent tie rod ends, because inner tie rods dont go bad usually. its usually outer tie rod ends, and balljoints.
ebay advertises as oem, but in fact they are not, if they arent stamped with Toyota on the product or the casing of the product, then they arent OEM Toyota. they are usually just built to oem specs, which i usually dont believe either.

Thx for the additional info :) Fortunatly my ball joints were already replaced and i did confirm that the ends are fine. BTW OEM are way over priced (as you my already know) have you or anyone you know had bad luck ordeering these parts via internet? Not that i dont respect OEM/toyota but how do you think an oem spec will differ?:shrug:

Yeah I've been ripped off buying "OEM" parts online. Damn name of that company was something oem, so i guess thats how they get away with saying that *ish. PM'd =)

yeah, 90% of the companies on ebay are junk. they all have great marketing techniques, but ive been fooled to. but not again.
look into MOOG. the only company that i know of that makes suspension parts to oem specs and stronger. 100% guarantee that youll be satisfied. they are a company that specialized in ford parts based in australia then expanded to just about every make available. do some research and youll find nothing but praise for this company.

btw, trust me, why would you buy some inferior junk that in the end may cause a lot more damage. dont do it. try rockauto.com, they carry a lot of moog stuff. and when you do get them in, do a comparison test, moog will be the same specs, if not, usually thicker from the experiences ive had with my 240sx and es300 stuff ive bought.
