Worth it?

What do you guys think? How much replacing will I need to do, and how much do you think I'd need to sink? Ideas on worth?

I dunno if it's just me but your pic isnt comming up......

Edit: I think that it depends on what you where going to do to it, If you where thinking Wild style I think it would be good because you would buy new front fenders anyway, you would just need to get the inside of the fender/strut tower straigtened, also the lights etc... If you where just going to keep it exe then it would be a bit of work.

Just go there... IMO it looks like a fair bit of work. YOu would want to be able to pick that up for close to nothing, and do alot of work yourself/spend time searching for cheap parts, in order for that to be worth it...

Are UCF10/11s so expensive where you are? What about imported from Japan? They can be bought for next to nothing in Australia now... and we pay alot for our cars!

IMO, little to much work. Unless you could get it for a steal, but then again still a little to much.

Anything Lexus is really really expensive here, same with Infiniti. 

Are Lexus parts pricey? I'm thinking a later model front end conversion would be a cool/smart idea, since both fenders, the hood, lights etc. need to be replaced anyways.

There's a 240SX that same week that I will give my full attention to if that Lexus is too shitty to fix in class. Budget is about $1000 bucks to get the vehicle

if you can't afford what you want/need to do with your protege,  you aren't going to be able to do it with an ls400.  last i checked (about 5-6 months ago) in the u.s., one headlight for a ucf 10/11 ls400 ran $150-200 (new), hood ran about $500-700 (new), unsure of the price on the fenders.  the car's quite large and big. not that it justifies the price, but the parts do run quite a bit more than a smaller car.

Okay, that's pretty much what I was afraid of - price of OEM.

I've decided to try and find a more resellable/fun project car to quickly dump some cash into while I have use of the shop - which is why I'm not putting money into the Protege right now. Looks like I'm not ready for an LS yet, I'll have to go the sports route first.

yep OEM lexus is really expensive.  I cringe whenever I have to buy OEM parts.  

Looks like that LS needs alot of work.

that isnt too bad really...fairly easy fix and itll give u chance to upgrade the parts. or you could do a front end conversion to a newer 97-00(? not positive on the years)! if its cheap and u have the time/money for a project car its worth it.

That's what I was thinking. Labor isn't a problem, I have use of a shop for the next 4 months, and qualified instructors to help, it's just part prices that I'm worried about, I think I'll just focus on the 240SX going up the same day

parts arent as bad you'd think..theyre a fairly common car. used parts are all over them, thatd be a hugggge help. brand new oem parts for that year is pointless unless u have a big budget haha

of course we haven't even discussed whether the car is mechanically sound, and potential costs of repair...

This may sound naive, but I'm sure it's bound to be mechanically sound for this reason: it was written off because the damage caused by an accident exceeded the car's insured value. However it was being driven, and most Lexus drivers don't let their cars fall into disrepair that badly, so it's a safe bet it was well maintained previously...

But it's all moot, I'm not going for an LS, not this year.
