91 LS 400 Wont stay running
Hello everyone! I been lurking around here for quite some time now but a friend of mine is trying to sell me his 91 LS400 but there is only 1 problem. The car all the sudden died on him the other dya and now it wont stay running. So i checked it out... the car has fuel coming in.. has spark... spark plugs look ok... cranking fine. When i start it i have to hold on to the gas pedal to keep it running but once i let off the car shuts off. Other then that i can drive it with my feet on the gas but cant figure out what the problem is. Debting on buying it and fixing it... so any ideas on what is causing this?

Check the AFM plug is in correctly.
Often removing the Air Flow Meter plug while in idle the car will stall.

ok the MAF plug is tight and i also notice the spark plug was kinda black and the battery needs to be replaced... so i got a new battery and now i might as well get new spark plugs too. I also notice the starter hangs when i start the car and even when i shut off the ignition it will hang up for about 2 secs... bad starter as well? But the car cranks..

When you change the plugs and wires, you may as well replace both the rotor caps and buttons. I would definitely clean the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV), the MAF sensor and throttle body - perhaps clean the IACV first. It wouldn’t hurt to examine the vacuum hoses and check for air leaks in the air intake duct to the intake manifold as well. To inspect the starter, you may as well replace it - it is a lengthy process.

UPDATE!! Ok guys first of all i would like to thank you guys for all the good advice on reparing this car. SO as Flexingsteelz cleanign the throttle body out... i pulled out the boots and DAMN there was Alot of fuel in there and alot of black gunk... so i downed it with 2 cans of carb cleaners and air hosed it out and wiped out the insides with rags. Then i got the car to start and DAMN there was thick smoke coming from the pipes... so we let it run for about an hour to burn out all the fuel and whatever thye build up and and that solved the problem. Again guys Thanks for all the great help!
