Help....rear table install

So one thing that I have fallen in love with is tables in VIP cars. I have already bought some jaguar seatback tables and am going to be installing them over the next couple weeks, hopefully. The Jag tables are a very close match to my factory wood color and seem to work pretty well with my interior. I believe Driftgirl on here has installed them on her GS I think they lok really nice in her car and hopefully they will look very nice oin mine as well. And then hopefully before next summer I would like to buy a JP table to install out of my glove box. The reason the JP front table is going to wait is I have a lot of projects currently under way and need to start finishing some nowinstead of putting them all off. And then I am also trying to buy body parts, Grants Emitz, and a few other things before next summer.

Now as you can see this isn't a direct fit and will involve a little work but shouldn't be all that hard. Here's the few obstacles I see that I have to overcome and any help any of you can lend is greatly appreciated. The leather on the tables is tan, my interior is black, I think this is an easy fix. It looks like I can remove four screws and I should be able to pull panel and reupholster it with black leather or vinyl. Next problem is the seat backs on the F50 are curved in the back this is where I need most of the help. AGI suggested biulding a panel or something to make the seat back flat like a Jag's. I don't know if I want to add a panel to the whole back of the seat. I was thinking I might be able to add brackets, spacers essentially, to give the hinges a little extra room where they mount to the seat backs, so the table can fold up and sit with the center flush to the rear of the seat. Also when the table is down the center will be close to flush against the seat back and the outside edges will have a little room. I can live with this and don't think it would look bad, when the tables are up or down. Biggest problem is how to mount them to the actual seat backs. I dont want to just buy some drywall screws, and screw the hinges and "brackets/spacers" into the back of my seat. I want it to look good and look like it could have been almost a factory option. How do you guys suggest attaching them to the seat backs? This will be my first time doing anything to seats other then pulling them out and putting them back in.

nope F50 here what do the backs of your seats look like.

this would be sick on a Y33

Flat mount? Put some screens there..that'll be perfect.
 
You could also custom cut the edge of the table to flush it against the seat, rather than worrying about making the seat fit the table.

go custom.. if the back has a plastic  or wood on the inside of the leather  to support the table cut and reupholster.

The leather wrapped piece on the bottom is a piece of plastic formed to fit the edge of the table.. on the bottom there are two screws... unscrew them and that piece comes out... CAREFUL, on the opposite side of the screws, there are little plastic pegs that are aimed to keep the top flush. You have to pull the piece straight down... chances are that these pieces are very brittle. Now you can re-wrap to match...

I would not recommend trying to cut the edge of the table.. the table has a thick coating of lacquer  and consists of three pieces on the inside... refinishing is a B--ch... it can be done, as it was with mine, but be prepared. Any moisture gets to the inside, and these three pieces tend to pop apart... then ensues the clamping and gluing.. also, there is a chance that the lacquer is very brittle and will come off in chunks.... 

As far as mounting, the seat backs that these are usually mounted to also feel to be plastic... I intend to either re-shape and mount these pieces inside of my seat covers, or while the covers are off, make a mounting point that runs between the seat frame to be able to mount to...

In either case, good luck... also, try pm-ing DG to see what her solution was... unless contacting Her Highness directly is against forum rules (I've been dying to, but I don't have a good enough reason).... (Damn!!).... J/K.....Knawl for real tho... J/K

You can start with making some aluminum bends and flat pieces to the curvature of the seat back (Rather than cutting the back of the table).

I wont be cutting the table. I want to keep the table as is. I have come up with somewhat of an idea of what I might try to do with all of the help and ideas everyone has lended I' will try to get some photochop work from my buddy to show my idea if he can't help I'll ms paint and cutand past as good I can for my idea

you can remove that whole seatback, and mold your own with fiberglass then just reupholster it

sorry if blurry, I took it with my iphone.  Anywho what I had done was put a little wood piece so I can have it mount to the seats when I got my seats reupholster

sweet tables. i just picked up two sets here in TN.  one set is okay and the other is f*(ked.  The lacquer is cracked and chipping off. so if its gonna be a pain to fix it, then i guess i'm up for the challenge. :biggthumpup:
 
i assume i'll have yur problem soon enough tho.
