Noob to offsets... can you help?
Ok so after patiently waiting and constant searching for some wheels for my car i came across a set of 20"s for my car. My car has a rear offset of (+51mm) and the front are maybe (+45mm). And hearing alot of people talking about getting rims to fit your car correctly by getting some that is close to your stock offset. So these wheels i found are 20x9 (+30mm) and 20x10.5 (+21mm) and so the question is.. these wheels WILL give my car somm serious poke? Because that is what im looking for.

Those will not be anything crazy on a 745... If thats even what they are going on. And I am willing to bet the wheels on the one pictured are 21's or 22's. 20" wheels are not very big on a car that size.

would be nice to know what car it's for. Stock offset is nothing. Maybe can be used as a reference point but thats about it. You'll have to figure out how you are going to get the "poke"? Are you willing to do fender mods or do you not want to touch them at all and try to go the maximum "poke"? You need to study the forum some more....

stock offset means nothing without width. At that point measure the distance from your rim to your fender in mm. thats how many mm you can subtract from your offset. use a calculator to calculate the new offset into a wider rim.

Oh sorry guys if you did not read my sig lol. The car is a 1993 Mercedes 500SEL and for rolling and pulling my fenders that is the plan and a must. As me being a member since 06 i am fully not aware about offsets.
here is a picture similar to my car with the similar bodykit i have on the way. Also my car is silver too.
AND this is the stance i like my car to be + the bodykit w/ the wheels. I already plan on rolling the rear + front fenders for this.
So does this give you guys a little bit more of a picture im trying to paint?

Lol the wheels are for a good price thats why im asking abut the offset to these. BUT as someone mentioned about me trying to get some serious poke out of the wheels i see that Eibach sells spacers. =p

I think the first thing you need to do, is quit reading benz forums for wheel fitment.
Find out what your wheel specs are now, then go lower from there, to get your stance right.
There's a wheel offset calculator somewhere in the tutorials that'll help you out.

KICS sells spacers.
ICHIBA sells spacers.
a few other companys out there.
I think on VW vortex there was thread about off-sets on benzo's like a real thread not like mbworld sayin offsets must be like +70 and oem fitment..
but like yokota said their is some threads about this already.
so take out the ruler lol

ill measure it tomorrow at my shop. Ill pull the wheel out and then measure from the hub out to the fender. Sounds good?

Get your wheel specs from the rim....what size? Then just measure off that how different these new wheels are.

google the offset calculator aswell very helpful !
and on a 7 22's would look great . the wheel choice you have is nice aswell. I would just say on a older s class a 21 would be amazing .
planning on raking the stance too hmmmmm interesting !

Remember that's over 'stock' wheels. I have no idea what the offsets of the wheels that are on there now.

Remember that's over 'stock' wheels. I have no idea what the offsets of the wheels that are on there now.
Ok so i did a little bit of research on my current stock wheels and the specs on my rim are (16"x7.5") and offset is (51mm)

Some good pointers here, also over at Stanceworks dot com there is an offset calc, tirestretch calc and maybe even a spacer calc if I remember correctly. "Stance" can get confusing and I am learning that it is a process. Good luck on the journey!!!

So i did the calculations on my current wheels to the ones im looking at and here are the results that im getting.
[Front wheels OEM to NEW]
Current wheel specs: Width 7.5 inches / offset 51mm
New wheel specs: Width 9 inches / offset 30mm
....calculated results....
Inner clearance: 2mm or more (the inside of the wheel to the strut housing)
Outer position: EXTEND an extra 40mm (position of the outside edge of the wheel)
[Rear wheels OEM to NEW]

Looks right. That's quite a bit of extension in the rear. Measure to make sure you have the room.
Are you willing to roll and/or pull your fenders & quarter panels? Camber will help out as well.

Didnt not think about any camber at the moment but as for rolling and pulling the fenders... yes i am. My guess is that if i do decided to go with these wheels then my results will look somewhat similar to thes car.
update: just went outside with a ruler to measured from the beginning of my front and rear fenders and let me tell you! The fronts 1.5 poke not so bad but the rear... 2.5" poke is quite extreme... hmmm i wonder how much i can pull and roll from the rear fenders.

You have the room...look at your fenders. You could totally shave and pull them/stretch the tire to get the clearance. I say go for it...it's better to have wheels that are 'too wide' and need a little body work to fit, than to have wheels that are too small, and you regret spending the money on them.
Besides, you have a body kit coming in, what's a little fender work to get the wheels to fit?
AND...make sure you get the tires you want on the wheels before they do the body work, so they can fit it properly. No point in stretching tires if you don't HAVE to.

Old Benz' are built like tanks. They have really strong and heavy panels. Good luck pulling those fenders with a roller. I could imagine it taking hours per fender if you did so

Hell yeah they are built like tanks.. at least from 1990s-98 or so and then they fell off. My plan is to heat/pull/heat/roll. If i can get it to flare out and extra 1" or 1" 3/4 i should be good.

That's stock body, your car won't get that low with the kit on...BUT that car is perfect IMO, and something definitely to shoot for!

Yeah the way it stands it is perfect without a kit. I was thinking also doing the same without a kit and leave it stock all round. But then mercedes offer 4 different spring shim pads... 8mm 12mm 16mm 24mm,, somewhere along that line lol. But yes im doing it. The rims are already on the way. As for my tires i dont know what width so to with untill i test fit it to see how far the poke is.

Nope but the fender did melt (Cut) the upper side walls of the right tire. So i ended up having to raise the rear up for now. Only until i get a fender roller to mod the rears but other then that here are some pics. Sorry for such shitty pictures.

sorry to hear. been there. wheels look great though. you might want to look in to a lower profile and or sknnier tire to help fit them in so you can go low. gotta love trial and error. good luck.

I was looking @ your car and i was thinking like.. damn hes ride is super flush! lol I should be ok because the poke of these wheels are about .5" from the fender. My next step is to find OR buy a fender roller to prep the car for lowering. As of now the rear is raised up about like 1.5" from bottom fender to top of tire lol.
