LOWERING VIP OR NOT???

OK LOWERING..... if you have the whole bling image with the huge staggard wheels with the deep dish effect, and you have all the usdm emblems and the bodykit, does lowering your car really make you officially VIP? I know that if you dont lower the car the wheel gap is disgusting however in some situations lowering isnt an option.

INSIGHT????

Lowering is always an option. If your wheels are so big you can't lower it, you're definitely not in Vip territory.

Re: LOWERING VIP OR NOT???

thanks. now of course you shouldnt put super huge 22's on a y33 and expect to lower it. however i wanna put staggard 19's and want nice look but dont really wanna lower. but i do know the consequence would be wheel gap. so if i do have wheel gap would that kinda throw off the whole VIP image?

Re: LOWERING VIP OR NOT???

Yes... One of the big things they do over there is get the car as low as possible. Fender mods, chassis mods, anything to make it low.

If you arent lowering it, it might look nice, but it will certainly not have a vip feel to it

Why dont you want to lower it? :-\

What makes you officially VIP is having a True VIP platform car,,other wise it is allways going to be
VIP inspired....Lowering is a must or its not VIP...you could have all the bling as you
call it, all the right JDM aero kits and VIP wheels but if its not slammed it is not complete.....Thus lowering should be the first step so it
is out of the way....

lowering is ESSENTIAL to just about anything car related, not just VIP.

if you don't wanna lower then don't even bother with it. Just keep everything stock and save yourself the trouble.

Sure... if you're driving a cement truck.

All of my cars have been lowered. Even my old Fiats back in the day.

Re: LOWERING VIP OR NOT???

THE REASON WHY I ASK IS YEAH I DRIVE MY CAR TRAVEL AND ALL AND SLAMMING IT WONT BE GREAT FOR TRIPS TO NY OR PENNSYLVANIA. YEAH I WANNA GO VIP BUT LOWERING WASNT THE WAY I WAS LOOKING. NO DONT WANNA LEAVE THE CAR COMPLETELY STOCK HOWEVER I DONT WANNA SCREW UP RIDE QUALITY OR RUN THE RISK OF BOTTOMING OUT. I DONT WANNA HAVE RIDICULOUS 24 IN RIMS ON THE CAR I JUST WANT STAGGARD 19'S. I REALISE THE WHEEL GAP THROWS IT OFF. JUST WANTED SOME THOUGHTS.

Re: LOWERING VIP OR NOT???

Lowering is an essential part of VIP styling and so is a lot of other tuning styles. If you don't want to lower your car then you might want to think about taking your car in another direction. Put some 20" wheels and call it DUB, you're done.

WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING?

If you look around you'll see that most cars here are daily driven, so it's obviously not that bad.

If you're not low, you're not even touching Vip.

You won't bottom out if you get the right setup for your car - only cheapskates and idiots bottom out their daily drivers.

You could get Teins or Eibachs. Eibachs are discountinued ,so they will be hard to find.Teins for thr Y33 are not sold in the US. There might be some Teins in the classified. Falk on NICOCLUB can get them.

THATS the key! You need air suspension.

Then you can ride up on a stock height on the freeway, looking like a prancing queen, and when you get into the cities, bring it back down and floss like a true vip baller... :)

Re: LOWERING VIP OR NOT???

air suspension is cool but no thanks. im cool with the possibilities of lowering it with teins. yeah i seen faulk on the q forums talking about it and if i do drop it that would be my source. i think i will get the wheels and kit first and see just how bad it will look. So lowering isnt completely outta the options but its definately last on the list.

Not!

I have a feeling that is on air suspension, and it is at it's fully inflated state. I didn't put down air suspension as an option for you since I had a feeling that you are only half committed about modifying your car VIPstyle.

I guess we haven't said this for a long time, but VIPstyle is an extreme form of automotive tuning. There will be fender shaving and rolling, driving up driveways at an angle and scraping every once in awhile. And if you cannot accept these situations then there is nothing more to discuss.

Maybe you can start your own trend, How about "mini donk" style?

ok i saw this crown on my trip to japan a couple month ago. first vip.....well not really vip yet car i saw on my visit

however i always walked by it going to my cousins house almost everyday and one thing that always bugged me was the fact that its not lowered
now tell me this car just doesnt look right until its lowered with a better stance?

just like carlssonrl said lowering is essential to all modified cars
i even think suv's with their 22" rims should be lowered. i cant stand seeing an suv with huge rims along with huge wheel gaps
besides i lowered my daily driver odyssey and it looks waaay better lowered and i have no problem so far

Re: LOWERING VIP OR NOT???

Dunno, but IMO it looks pretty gay. I mean, it could just be that he is on air suspension and has it raised up, or maybe needed to do it for a registration inspection.

A stock Y33 lowered with nice rims has so much more impact than that car which has rims, kit, chrome bits etc.

I have a question for you: What is it that attracted you to VIP?
If it is just because it is JDM and it because the Y33 is a commonly modded vip car then you will be happy with some JDM badges and no lowering etc. Do what makes YOU happy, but dont expect us to approve it as a vip style car

Most people like it for the impact that a well executed vip car gives, and that is achieved with the low look. I dont think i can remember a single car in the 30+ vip magazines that i have, that isnt lowered and less than a handful that are only 'mildly lowered' - certainly no feature cars. It is just a prerequisite of the style!

By the way, i just came back from a 1200km (750 miles) round trip in my Cedric, with my gf sleeping in the passenger seat most of the way. Its not as impractical as you think

Re: LOWERING VIP OR NOT???

You gotta pay to play, if you want your car to look tight, you gotta drop it a little bit, every inch lower looks better in my opinion. With 19" wheels your car shouldn't be that low to begin with, I drive around slammed on 16s and I scrape a bit, but nothing too harsh.

If you're cautious of the road conditions, and drive carefully, there's nothing hard about being low.

I don't want to be mean but stop being a female sex organ.

So many people are on daily drivers that are low low low, if they can do it so can you.

When it comes to VIP, it isn't really an option whether you lower it or not. The way you want things you'll just be another inifini with rims.

just like carlssonrl said lowering is essential to all modified cars
i even think suv's with their 22" rims should be lowered. i cant stand seeing an suv with huge rims along with huge wheel gaps
besides i lowered my daily driver odyssey and it looks waaay better lowered and i have no problem so far

what if he didnt invested in springs or coilovers yet? HUH?

You may be correct when it comes to factory/smaller diameter rims with some beef. We're talking about VIPstyling which is larger diameter rims and low profile tires. I would like to see a car lowered minorly with a body kit, larger rims, and low pro's.

Yes you can. I have the active suspension. I might go for the KYBs struts. I read that the Teins would wear out the stock struts quickly.

Re: LOWERING VIP OR NOT???

You can roll daily low.    This is on coilovers, and the daily height.   Gotta change driving habits a tad, but its still possible.    Learn to take bumps at angles, and slow it all down, and you're good.

LMAO

With all kidding aside.. you'll be fine with proper tuning. We aren't driving rice rockets with low quality parts man. Alot of our suspension components are high quality.

I myself am running on JIC Magic FLTA2 coils... properly tuned to my personal comfort zone, IMO rides better than stock.

Now, if you don't want to be slammed 24/7, I suggest you invest in AIR Suspension.

So in conclusion, with Great Suspension, Proper Wheel Fitment, Great Tires (I recommend Falken) and Alignment you should be good to go.

Otherwise, don't bother modding your car. OR if you do, just get a cheap daily driver.

So lowering isnt completely outta the options but its definitely last on the list.

Air is more than just cool, it is the most feasible way to keep your car show quality and also drivable on a daily basis. In my friends g50 he is running cc springs and HATES how you cant go on certain roads and how its not adjustable. Personally I am definitely saving my time and money for air bags on my g50.

I DONT WANNA HAVE RIDICULOUS 24 IN RIMS ON THE CAR I JUST WANT STAGGARD 19'S. I REALISE THE WHEEL GAP THROWS IT OFF. JUST WANTED SOME THOUGHTS.

Well, I live in PA and I'm on my second 2Gen GS. I ride on Tanabe coilovers cranked as far down as I can get them no matter what size wheel. If you want your ride to have the VIP feel there is ZERO question in my mind about lowering. It should go without saying in my book.

The ride quality isnt degraded by lowering at all, although some brands of coilovers are noisier/stiffer than others. It's all a part of the game. Bottoming out is a part of life as well, especially around where I live. You have to learn what angle of approach is best when approaching an uphill grade. not that difficult.

INSIGHT????

Fuck staggering. Until I land that perfect job and have stacks of cash falling in my lap (dreaming...or maybe not), I will never stagger my wheels. I need money before I can just start ripping through hundreds of unevenly worn rubber tires.

I don't care what magazine or person says that you need to stagger your wheels in order to be considered bippu-style it's all what YOU make it. You can achieve vipstyle without staggering. There's many avenues to take.

lol, staggered fitment is hardly going to be ripping through tires - some cars even come with staggered fitments from the factory!
You just won't be able to rotate front and back (or at all if assymmetrical).
Staggering come from most cars having more clearance in the rear for wider/deeper wheels.

Ahh, thanks for the lesson.

But still, to me, there's extreme and moderate/classy VIPstyling. I like to take the moderate route.

There is no 'moderate' vip styling. There is vip styling, and there is weak-assed attempts. Any shortcuts taken to 'save money' only end up detracting from the appearance.

Anyway, how often do you rotate the tyres front to rear? I dont get the purpose of it... If your tyres are bald, you have to buy new ones!! Swapping bald tyres from the front to the rear just increases your chances of oversteering while wet... NOT a safe situation to be in (speaking from experience - doing 360's on a highway at 80mph in a civic due to bald tyres on the rear!)...

If you cant afford to buy new tyres then start taking the bus.
