Coilover Install Question
I have a UCF10, I'm going to go with coilovers on it, but I was wondering if most people here install their own coil overs or have a shop do it? I have car experience, with my civic and 240, but I've only installed coilovers on the civic, does this knowledge translate to the lexus?

Mechanical knowledge is mechanical knowledge. If you have the right tools its not a difficult install. Just be ready for a possible seized nut etc..

Coilovers for our cars are pretty simple, it's just a remove and replace.

no special tools or anything.
Just make sure you use the CORRECT tool when it is time.

As said before: Start with the front and the rest will be gravy, get your car up on 4 stands to make it easier to take sway bars in/out etc. If you can change a tyre, you can change your susp. You might need a spring compressor but I don't know how yours is set up?
Dont sag or compress the spring too much.Measure all 4 corners. If you hear any clunks it's often how you've put the sway bar back in. Hope That helps you a bit

I wouldn't necessarily just say do it without knowing his knowledge of working on cars. I've seen alot of people incorrectly jack up their cars and use no jackstands. It's super dangerous if you are not careful. Technically you should work with someone near so incase something happens someone can help you or if it comes to it call the paramedics. The mechanical part of it sounds easy from the sound of everyones knowledge of this specific model car. On my 02 Q45 it wasn't so easy and required a few specialty tools and sizes but that was just for the fronts..rears was cake. good luck and be safe. If you don't think you can do it I say go pay somewhere too...it shouldn't be more then $100...

that's a pretty darwin award worthy thing to do...assuming you're actually working UNDER The car and not just doing a wheel/brake swap.
jacks are hydraulic devices, and like ALL hydraulic devices, are subject to the possibility of losing all pressure via a leak/bad seal/etc..
OP, best thing to do if you havent done it before, is to have someone who has, help you the first time.

I dont think he means using a jack on each corner. Most likely all 4 on each side. I have done that in the past just in case one jack was to give, the other 3 would keep the car up

When I was a kid I actually saw a hydraulic jack fail and the truck cut the guy in half, in the parking lot of my building. You can understand why I would never take a chance like that.
In any case, jack stands are like $20 each and have zero possibility of failing.
Why not?

jackstands are one of those things you keep almost forever. hydraulic or scissors jacks or whatever eventually needs replacing.

i use a hydraulic 10 ton 2 post lift. =)
that's like half of the labor of changing your suspension right there, just jacking up the car and putting it on stands. :runcoold:
