F50 Q45 Build thread

As most of you have seen some previous postings on whats going on, and what I am trying to achieve. The Q45 is a great car, what 67k new? well it shows that it is worth that much by what has been done.. but I am raising the bar a bit.. Taking various ideas from Rolls, and Maybach and applying them to my car. This section will go by slow, and it will go by fast. As I do have a life and a business I am trying to run as well. Cars are my passion as well as business, and I am making this.. All business!

cut out the tab, its beige plastic that will get coated in something.. but for now, i cut the material out and stuck it to my face as such

I actually sectioned the headliner for a couple of reasons. The rear section can be removed with out having to bend or flex the whole thing to come out.. also planing on moding it later on as well so i want it to remove.. the front have is getting a beveled edge for it to over lap the back half

wasnt bad for 40 bucks haha and lasted a while. And yes, I will be making a center console for the rear to have a cooler for the Champagne

Can you explain the process you used to chrome the trunk piece?

hey thanks. it is exactly what i strive for, is the attention to detail. Every car I have is a sleepless night (laughs). I do own a business thats not advertised but word of mouth. I do it for fun and help out those who need help. To me my work is my advert.

As for the trunk.. pretty easy. Use air craft strip in a air sol can, let sit for a few minutes wipe off. Now your work is only as good as your prep. so i prepped it as tight as possible with out having to take it off. Taking that piece off would have required to take the trunk carpet out, disassemble the finisher, then unbolt that piece. Usually I am all about taking things apart. but I recommend it to anyone who has not a lot of skill in taping something off perfectly.

Something that is a huge peeve of mine is headliners done where the plastics don't match.

This is going to present its self a problem with the Q45. Dome Lights are easy, but its the seat belt clasps that will be the tricky. I have a solution, will see :)

Thanks Yukis45! I have owned the car for a year before I decided to go through with it. This whole build is to show you don't need to have a bunch of money to throw at a car. Granted, I am doing everything my self. But I am in no way spending money on things that are already done. Junction Produce was/is a huge inspiration to me. But it was a stepping stone for me. To me this car doesn't need a bunch of name brand swashed all over it to be legit. That will be for another build I have later. 

I bought 14 yards of gucci material that will be for something else. I want this whole car to be inside what you see from factory custom ordered. Not bashing those who buy D.A.D or JP or any of those products.. Just bare in mind, I like it but not for this build. I just feel it is not need to show luxury style I am going for with a hint of VIP

ohhh nice... I've always wanted to do suede or alcantara roof liner...   I'm jealous of your black interior..makes life alot easier.   

originally I also stripped the rear trunk accent piece with acetone frome home depot...works as well real quick.   I'm really surprised you didn't take it off and do it..comes off with like 6 tabs and a couple 10mm bolts.   Anyways good masking goes a long way..good job!!  man that shift bezel thing you did is dope...I might have to borrow that idea.   

If you have any questions maybe I can help out don't hesitate...or if I have any questions I'll hit you up.    I've got a rattle in my headliner on small vibration bumps that bugs me...have any idea whats up there that might be lose or moving around?

Thanks guys! Yeah its like arts and crafts! and I love craft time when i was a kid.. So this is a big thing for a big kid :) 

Blitz: I found a lot of stuff up there when I removed my headliner. I cleaned it and found a few things loose I tightened down. One of the big ones was the right rear door, there was a big rattle in there. And since it is torn down.. no more rattle. Leads me to believe it was the curtain. I also know the some debris gets on top of the sunroof liner so pulling this out was a huge effort since you almost have to pull the sun roof off. I unbolted as much as i could in the back and got to the two white tabs with the screw on the top side.. dumb rubish idea. so! when i put it back together I duct taped them in place since they kinda snap in. WAY EASIER NOW TO REMOVE!! (laughs)

Doing the sectioned headliner is turning out to be way easier since where I cut was in the middle of the B pillar where there is velcro on either side. I will be adding more ambient lighting so that will work in the future installs.

Today I went on a drive with the Q with most of it torn apart, no front headliner no front pillars on, and parts everywhere in the car to the fabric store and picked up what I thought was a good idea :)

Curtain rod holders, picked em up for 10 bucks. Using the idea of what Aston and some jags do to mount umbrellas in the trunk. Since I will be covering the panels in actual black carpet.. the screws will be hidden til then, enjoy :)

I will be installing small 12v computer fan style fans above the hooks to dry the umbrella like inside the door of a Rolls Phantom. I hoping to duct it from the rear air system so it can bring actual heat to the trunk, which will circulate moisture out. Since I do carry gun(s) i dont need them to rust :) I had to get one re finished already due to this. But mainly due to faulty tail light seal

understandable, we all build the way we want to, Junction produce, and various sources locally and mainland have been very good to me in helping my build.  And I do allot of the work myself as well, I wouldn't be able to afford parts and labor in general haha.

I have a basic Ice Time watch, that I will be getting custom soon. I picked it up cause I thought it was unique. The Joe Rodeo, but soon to have diamond band maybe in summer. Had a rolex pres, but sold it to buy a stock that I am in, and still have a Ladies Concord watch diamond face, trying to sell that if you know anyone :) worn once.. in my drag queen days LOL. no, it was an ex gf, but good thing i got that back! Nice!! I sold the presidential in the 5 digit range. someone local on craigslist. I tell you what though, scary thing to do. met up at the gas station since lots of cameras and toted the glock in case someone acted a idiot. but, it was a older chap so it worked out well.

but anyway!! um back to cars haha. I get my wheels today so stay tuned. nothing spectacular just starter wheels :) I am scared they will not fit, or not look right. I got them used but didnt want to buy super nice ones until i know whats going on. Using everyones offsets helps, but doesnt really help your self, its a gauge is all it is.

If they Look rubish on it.. then well I will have to roll em anyway!

holy crap that is some real nice attention to detail...

The wheels got here.. um yeah.. definite roll in the back.. haven't done front yet. And i think the bridgestone potenzas i got for free wont be good enough.. :( i have 19x8.5 front +1 19x9.5 -3 in rear.. and the free new tires i got are 245-40-19. =-\ so not sure 

Maybe I can swap them out for different tires, will see how my hook up goes. Suspension is not done yet will be rolling on stock for now. But, that is okay, I dont drive it much anyway while its torn apart.  I know from runnin my s14 i had aggressive stretch, but with this.. i dont want to crazy. the wheels in the back stick out about 25mm at stock hightish.

haha crazy!  I was considering those Amistads at RB for a while and then they were gone.  Nice!   I definitely think the tires look too big in the rear though must be the 245 40 19 Bridgestone.

What are you planning for suspension?

they are actually 225 45 19. 100 bucks for all four cant beat it!

Suspension is going to be custom coilover. But in mean time, its slammed on s14 springs in front, and g35 stance springs rear. Why i did this is to get everything fitted right with that size tire, and ride hight. then when the coils get here, i can fab them up. and be ready to go! I might go with narrower tire width and hight.. but I like my ride comfort, and doesnt look to bad lowered with that size tire.. it fills up the wheel nicely in my opinion

as soon as I get the mock up suspension finished and installed it should be a bit nicer than what we have here.. but this is a mile stone from what it was before. Going to have front camber to match the rear.. I really dislike cars that have more camber in rear than front. Just looks more even and well rounded in my opinion.

That's alotta meat on them tires. If you drop down to a 35 it will help alot, and you'll get a full inch lower. Woohoo!

thanks, yeah.. I am liking my ride comfort but may have to anyway. Like i said on those tires i got all four for a 100. so cant pass it up to get it on some kind of tire in the mean time.

More fender rolling.. It has been a full out nightmare with the under laying bodywork from the previous owner. The rear quarter panel was replaced. And where it was "welded" on in the arch it was heaps of welds in random spots unlike most shops do now that use compression welds in the factory locations, or use a glue form with welding.

So been fighting this for a while. Sanding, hammering, and soon be more grinding away.. then maybe some welding of the inner lip where there is hardly one to begin with!

Actually the springs them selves are not that bad! I like them with the stock shock. But soon as the better shocks come in where I can dial it in, were in businaass

okay, so I hate, hate hate body shops who do childish work! 
I have worked for what my opinion is some of the best shops and learned quite well from them. The quarter panel that was put on my car was indeed seamless. It is however some of the thinnest metal known to man. It possesses no oem tag, and even if it did, the oem panel is thicker than this crap. 

I did more fender work since the inner fender separated from the quarter panel, and sliced my tire! While trying to remain calm and not kill it with a hammer like Jeremy Clarkson, I tack welded it. The welds burned through the quarter panel even on it's lowest setting. 

I broke out more hammer and dolly work and welding, it looks like absolute rubbish right now. but it works til i figure out what I am to do. New panel? or.. work on it some more.

thanks to a beveled edge. Came out alright, and in the car you don't even notice if it isn't perfect cause its all black, and black absorbs light.. unless its a camera flash or something.

Actually that brings to a point. If you want to check something use a camera with a bright flash. you will find different variations in well everything. 


And the hideous panel work by some ass-hat that is becoming a pain in the ass to fix. even with a super high end welder

Sorry to hear about your quarter panel.  THat sucks.  It doesnt look like it cant be fix with some a hammer and dolly, bondo and paint.

What are you doing to the wood?

Thanks for the comments! It has been super frustrating :( Especially when the biggest Nissan meet of the year is this coming sunday. 

As for the wood, I am taking it all off (which sucks cause you have to tear down the door to get to it.) Painting it all gloss black with a small amount of black flake, and a tiny bit of a diamond flake.. Trying to mimic the black granite that i have in my kitchen, and as seen on Maybachs.

made some progress to the rear quarter today. I am hoping to have most if not all done tomorrow. It is still super wavy, but! it is in fact super strong. It is more contoured on the underside which is nice, and gives me a better area to work with now.

last night I was looking at my front wheel. It is all pitted and scratched. Luckily it has clear coat on the lip too. Went to strip the clear coat off the lip, but the pitting and scratching was beneath the clear too!! so that means i have to take the wheel apart and sand and polish!!! Grr. Guess I need another bottle of champagne to make sure it comes out right like my Pillars (x_x) 

I really like how the wheel looks with out the clear coat on it. The face of the wheel has it too, and thinking about painting it like the Black/Polish  that you can get now days. Or possibly another color.

damn that quarter suckssss... same thing happened to me but it was my passenger side front fender that had bondo on the edge so when i started to roll. the bondo just started cracking off.... hopefully you make it work...

Thanks! Yeah I am still on the fence about it all. Thanks VipDout, your car is amazing and nice to hear I am going about something right from you. LOL. I really want to trash the quarter panel and put a new one on.. But at the same time I want to radius it. 

It has seriously been on my mind lately, well so much in fact that I haven't really dont anything at all. I was thinking maybe taking front fenders cutting the arch out, welding it on the back.. but not sure if its wider up front than the rear? have to measure it. Finding that dumb played out chrome fender trim that you can bolt on, and weld it up higher when i radius the fender and mold it in and paint it. Those things are cool, they are "fender rolled" already and have mounting tabs that you can easily weld on to the panel. 

Kinda stuck, but if anyone has some advice or suggestions? please let me know. cause right now there is no body line on that quarter panel like the driver side anymore, and getting them to match is near impossible. So what ever I do to the passenger side I have to mimic for the driver side.

Went into the garage to spend some time besides working on the panel. I found out my rear third brake light was out so i took the unit out and did some work to it. 

I am contemplating on doing the rear parcel shelf in teak wood, like you would see on a Drop-head.  A good friend of mine has great experience in wood and cabinets so will try to tackle that. Only thing is, there is a lot of contours to that piece so will have to make a new one. If that doesnt work, than I will suede that too.

Chiming in for a bit here give you a update. Thus far i have done nothing but change my overall plan of the car. After finding out the quarter panel has been replaced, though a good job seaming it together, just not the fender part, and finding out that in autocheck it has frame damage, yet none of the frame is bent. Working in auto body has told me one thing, if frame isn't bent then that means the core support was worked on. which is not really apart of the frame! its just what holds headlights radiator. So with this dismay, I am not buying a y34 for to use as a power house drift car. In fact I will be using this chassis. Since it is not perfect in anyway, my decision is growing ever more popular. 

Some of you will say wtf for and so on. I respect your comment, opinions but quite frankly dont care! (laughs) People say the car is to big, to nice, rare ect.. but whats the point in trying to go further on something that holds you from going forwards? If Bee*R can drift a Toyota Crown, then this can do it too. 

I have already picked up a titan block. Heard that the heads fit from the 4.5 to the 5.6. and so does a certain transmission. I will be selling some things from the car that can maybe help you out on your f50s. Not sure what i want to remove.. but I know the back seats are going. They are the recline ones that are heated, as well as the fronts in favor of buckets. Anywho Keep you posted. Glad my insurance valued my car at a good price :D

Yes, for sure. Really trying to map it all out. Some cars look right as drift sedans, and some dont. This is, well not sure really. The front end is really nice but doesn't have a drift appeal to it. The car is really long too. More so I think it would be fun. Not saying I am gonna try and go pro with it. I have other models and makes for that kind of thing. I still want a Y34 chassis to build.. so in the mean time :D Just happy everything is transferable to the Y from the F. Can not wait to see how it is with a 6spd, a nice diff and some bucket seats. The car was a absolute blast to drift when it was icy/frosty out. I never ran out of steering angle. I was connecting city blocks, which right there should have told me with the way this thing was it would make a great candidate for drifting.

sorry to hear you changed plans but I will definitely be interested in some parts if you do start parting it.

hmm interesting how u sectioned the headliner. mine came out without too much of a hassle i just had to have the shop owner help.

how much did you end up pulling your fenders?

i sectioned it cause of the material used wasn't wide enough, and i like the beveled edge, and if it is easier to take out if i just want to get to the rear and so on. 

um as for the fenders? a lot, i dunno.. depends on the wheels.

G/L my buddies here have a G50 and a LS400 as drift cars....Sucks to see such a great potential ruined by someone elses shitty work.

For sure man, for sure. It really irks me too. A part of me still wants to fix it, and do the right thing. But then, I would probably just end up trying to sell it. But this way, I can actually have fun with the car, and not care if its not perfect (yay)

Do you have pics of them? I would love to see that! In one of my newer tengoku's there is a dude drifting a Celsior. And in a previous a y33 with a 25, and a g50 president with a 26 in it! haha

there are 5 i have seen around here. only cause it is a navy area. The dealer I worked at had 2 for sale which make up the other 5 plus a some what modded one. And 2 06's and mine. Might be sacrilegious to drift one but.. w/e.

Step 3, Different tires, may lead to different wheels
Step 4, Look for diff, if this one is a no way lsd, it is getting welded
Step 5, Exhaust, may come as step 3
Step 6, Bucket Seat, and steering wheel
Step 7, Custom adapter plate for transmission, for 6spd install with lever ebrake.
Step 8, May coincide with step 7 of titan 5.6 block.

Check out that sexy door! Drift cars usually have big open spaces where the panels are not intact. It is like this car is made for it. I removed this piece to see how light it was, and it was light.. But going to be making a fiber copy of this down the road.

Awesome condition, usually you can tell a lot about a used car when bought on how everything looks underneath. Nothing out of the ordinary. Found a golf pencil, a coupon for Ceasers Palace and a quarter! And yes, I am keeping the speakers on there. I will probably paint the pods black and do a nice tuck on the wires.

I was planing the same thing with an older ls400 that i bought(shell) but cost ran up over budget.so scrap'd that idea.

Picked up some tires today yay. Will see how they do! As of right now the tire hight is really tall, and it is a rubasaurus in the back. 235/35/19 on a 9.5 should be fine I hope. Front tires have not come in yet. Does anyone have pics of this body style on aggressive fitting 18s? Haven't seen it looked in all the usual spots, google, the f50 appreciation page, rimtuck.. Thought to change out from 19 to 18, but i think 19 will be a good street wheel.

You were going to do it? You should! I have two 5.6s. The one I am using now has a burnt valve. the other had blow by i think.. not entirely sure. I am still assuming everything is a bolt and play kinda deal. Still awaiting head gaskets from nissan to come in so i can check them out. No need to order when they do a stock order right? (laughs) Hate to do these things alone as much as i like to pioneer, but it would be cool to do. Also Agi, if you need some interior stuff.. not sure how you are on the Tan.. Ive been thinking about doing it since I heard of a g35 that did it a while back.  If I do it, it will just be for the sound.  I dont care for speed.  I also don't care who does it first so by all means, go for it.  I got some questions that I will pm you about

regardless of what is was supposed to be i can tell you what it wasn't, and that's a drift car. cool in that "i don't give a f**k" drifter kind of way but in reality nothing more than a novelty.
 
when you've had your fun and you're tired of it i'm willing to bet you'll think back on that 1/4 panel like "it wouldn't have been that hard to fix".

oh its not.. i can make it better for sure.. but to be honest. It has never been a great car to me.. my xj8 rides better than the Q did stock. The S55 has way better luxury vip options. And what I paid for the Q justifies quite nicely on what i want it to be. To me, its just a canvas to paint my art work. Its a platform. Look at the Toyota Zero Crown thats being drifted in D1 now.. same arguable point. Everyone takes the motor from the Q and puts it into a coupe and drift it.. why not just keep the motor where it was and drift that? Besides, if I bought the car to become a Vip car in the first place.. would have been more picky about the car. When i got it, I knew from the get go the paint had to be redone. 

As for stripping of its luxury, that goes out the window when you put rims and a different suspension and a crazy exhaust. When I picked up the car, I wanted it to be a drift car. Then realized it had all the options like the rear recline seats and so forth.. I was like well.. maybe I can make it a cool vip car. But I got over that and doing what i originally wanted to do with it. And let someone get to have all the cool stuff it had. 

Kinda not sure why I am arguing with anyone what I want to do and why I am doing it. I am doing it cause I am bored with the mainstream drift cars. Why have a twin turbo 5.6 just to go in a straight line and be careful. Think out side the box. Cause this box has Elegant Chaos written all over it. 

Trust me, I am not going to disappoint, but everyone is entitled to their opinions.. I just think they are all wrong :)

I put the fujitsubo exhaust sticker on there cause it is what I am running on the S14. It will be removed as soon as i get the style i wanted.

Depending on the area or jurisdiction, going with a 5.6L means the car may no longer street legal. Unless you can integrate the factory 5.6L drivetrain electronics with the F50 chassis electronics, it won`t pass the emissions testing that we have here.

I like to see you are going after your vision. That's really what it all boils down to. It's coming along quickly.

thanks i hope it goes by a lot quicker. still have lots to do to get it where i want it. But to drift it, well thats been happening already! Suspension is getting sorted out now, and Blitz and I have talked about his old kit, and that is a definite do! Then its picking colors and so on and completing the suspension.

haha yeah, for sure man. the reclining seats are super heavy though. and kinda like it stripped out. But doesnt mean i cant add more later. but for the power i am putting down its best to have it as light as possible

okay, maybe I am missing something here. Those who can help get a gold star on their homework! I went and took the car out and did some good drifts today. The snap back acted like it had a open LSD. Not a VLSD like it should have.. And I doubt that it is that worn out. Did this come as an option? Nissan used R200's which is same as 350z r33 ect. I ask before I go to waste my time putting it up on the lift and tearing it all apart to look at the internals.

Finally drifting. Didn't think this was going to be mentioned I used to slide on the streets all the time.

Unfortunately with all thats been going on.. have not been able to get it up on the lift and tear it apart. soon though, soon.

As of right now, i am in line with a couple of sponsors and trying to work a deal that has been on going for almost 2 years now with another car I owned. But since this one is a bit more crazy.. I am trying to get (well not trying, but they are willing) to get my Q vinyl wrapped up. There is a few sparkle reds out there that I really like. but to get the effect I want with out it looking to cheesy it has to be a dual based vinyl, color and top clear sparkle vinyl. 

What is awesome about the vinyl is if applied correctly it will look excellent. not name dropping till deal is done. But if you are not picky about door jambs, which i am not, and if you get damage to the car, you can fix it somewhat primer wet sand and apply new vinyl to that section. Or if you got a fender re wrap it and no blending into the door.

can not wait til its sparkle red with what Blitz is graciously made a awesome deal with me on his old bumpers, and painting the Amistad's satin black with a chrome black lip

Haven't posted much on this. I am sorry for all of those who care! haha. I am looking at radius fender options. Should have something sorted out soon. Might be using the front fenders and cutting out what i need to make the radius in the rear. or go something completely different. My buddy does plastic chroming.. which i am super excited about since I am going to be giving him my mirrors and body trim and garnish and grill and doing it up in chrome. May do black chrome. If anyone is interested to do the same, contact me. Obviously I will show results before i get you all hooked on it.

Polishing the wheels. I peeled all the clear coat off the lip of the front, and half way on the rear one. what lays underneith it is amazing. But unfortunately they are pitted and etched really bad.. so I had to wet sand with 1000 2000 and 4000 and use a polishing wheel and a metal rouge, and came out really nice. Sadly the face is a welded two piece and super hard to get in cracks. I will be working on this more through the weekend.. but getting majority now

Well grademicated in 2000 so before that.. but I can't remember what company it was, but it was in a euro tuner mag that they had that front end for the older benz 300s even the convertible ones! they had these 18in amg mono blocks on it.. it was soooo sick.. Those pics are great and the car looks great. I'm really interested to see what you did with the exhaust and how it sounds. These cars have such great motors and the exhaust is where i'm starting. Love the polished pillars too, that's next for me when I get the courage.

I'm in Spokane WA and I have 1 of the 3 F50's in the area. My friends buddy just bough one and he's trying to go the VIP route. I'm just trying to make mine unique enough to not have it considered an "old mans car", even though it's a rocket. I wanna find a set of the fx45 20's and have them powdered Black and then exhaust. I think the black will look nice with my Midnight blue but who knows. After I get all that done it's time for some Air Suspension.

it is a mixed combo. g35 coils with up rated springs in rear stock shocks. and custom setup front. The ride is crap, but been working on setups. So hang in there I will show when it gets done, and trust me! I can not wait til it gets done.

Hey, how you doing? Thanks for making your first post on my thread! The transmission is great, better when it warms up. not to many wear and tear parts really. The motor.. eh blue smoke on start up if left over night, only after a thousand miles after oil change. I am messing around with different oils. Infiniti says it is normal?? What.. yeah. i know. But doesn't smoke on any other start up or drive. It is like a helicopter for the most part, if it doesn't leak don't fly it. I still think it is wrong for a car. I have tried to get them to fix it when i was at the 80k mark on the car.. but i have titan engines if it fails. but I am sure it will be turbo'd before that happens

i'm looking at a local q45 (premium package) @82500kms.....it's a 2002 model. i'm just going to get the guy to goto have it inspected @ a dealer. i'd like to know how much more work is needed to bring it back to tiptop shape.
 
plus i'm trying to figure out what i can use for suspension since this model has the electronic suspension.

suspension is usually all custom.. there is some out there, but it is a pretty penny to buy. I am still in test phase of mine.

Every time I see the door frames on this, I love it. I'm personally not a huge fan of the stainless stick-on pillars. The brushed look is a lot cooler.

Put one of the rear wheels in the front to get an idea of how far i need to re create the front wheel, so far, pretty perfect for now.

Still need to cut inner fender out to push out the rest of the quarter panel so i can get rid of the super flare. imo push the qp. but that's just my personal preference. i love it when cars retain their factory lines but still push super wide, low offset wheels. i feel the flare style only works on cars with sharper and more rectangular lines like ucf10/20.

it helped a lot when i cut away the inner fender, I had to cut more to gain access and will cut more tomorrow. Still not quite perfect, but spending an hour each day on it is not bad. I should be done tomorrow.. with this side haha

We have many of the same ideas lol.   I am doing that to the center of my hood too.  I was actually going to do it last time but my old shop talked me out of it.  It will match my mirrors and pillars.  Oh and that guy is my friend on minkara.  We sent each other a few messages in the past, his car has come  long way and its one of my favorite F50s.

I tried to get the color as best as possible.. but think FJ blue cross between apex blue from honda, hard to get it to look non metallic.. Heard a lyric from Young Jeezy about his phantom being Avatar blue.. and i was like this is what i need to do.

Here is the FJ. You will see how it changes tones. I liked it in certain light, as well as Apex Blue from honda. So i combined. Gotta a hook on the paint so may be a while til i can open it up and take a pic.

ha, thanks. Its total outside the norm but dont care. It will be pretty flash when its done and stand out like no other.

more updates for those who care! yay. Been playing around a lot with colors schemes what goes with what.. and the blue color is actually a harder task to coordinate than one might think. I really don't want to do the standard all black interior and, i don't want it super busy inside either cause the color on the outside will be wild. I took it upon my self to make the wood smooth with a matte finish. Which you will see in the beginning of this thread. So far it is coming together really well. Was going to do a different color and mimic granite but.. nope

Seats and so on is the biggest debate right now. Black with black diamond stitch with white stitching? carried out on the dash ect. Or go that light brown leather that you see on baby blue lambos for seats and door panels  and lower section of dash with black leather on top. either way.. i will figure it out! I know a lot of people are secretive on their builds cause they like element of surprise.. I like to show what goes on in this mind of mine and show the process into building something I think is great. no mater how many twists one car can go through

Airplane stripper.  Just wear gloves and mask off everything (if you are not removing the inner piece).  It burns through skin even with gloves on so be careful.

The wood is looking nice so far.  Reminds me of the Y50 M45

As for the seats, I like the black with white inserts but black with white stitching would look nice too.

the 09 jaguar xj portfolio also came with a nice navy blue interior -- it's the same color as the steering wheel in this shot. sorry i couldn't find a better one

interesting! i like that. But not sure.  Just cause I dont know if doing the the whole seats that color would be good on the Qs interior lay out style. Would almost have to do the cream with navy piping. But buying a Arnage soon too and i would hate for it to be to similar. Not saying its not bad.. but if i have a few cars.. i want them to be different too. hmm. I do like that tanish orange color the 370z has as a optional interior color too.

dude, keep me posted on that. i won't have the skrilla for something like that for a while, but one can dream, haha. i've always wanted to slam one, although the weird hydraulic suspension in the rear might cause some issues haha :P

well the prices i have seen of them are mid 40s and lower or higher depending on year. I want the turbo arnage mid 99 2000 cause they have the bmw engine. which is the good one :) but a price tag for a car that was 250k is still like driving a car that is 250k. The quality is still there, but the price isnt. So why buy a lexus ls460 when you can rock a bentley or a older rolls. Sure maintenance is pricey.. but so is a ls460 i am sure. and a ls460 was never 250k, nor does it have the hand made quality of being so. 

And on that, I will never own anything new, cause you can always have something better pre-owned. Sure one is baller to afford a new lexo, but a smart person will buy something older and well worth the money. This is my own opinion of course.. and anyone can take it either way.. But my 99 jaguar is not like any of the newer ones since then, its better. I think the same way with mercedes too, the s55 is awesome.. but i love the older ones better. Not saying that i wouldnt shell out the cash for a Phantom.. but sure not going to buy it new.. I will just buy one for 3/4 less with a outstanding history with no problems cause everything was fixed.

Time to tackle more stuff, the rear section of the headliner. As you saw i made it in two sections cause i was going to modify it later. Well time has come and here I am. 

This is a mock up of what i am working on. the tape is down so i can see how i like it and then will mark what i need in sharpie. I designed the lattice work of what you would see in a maybach. But incorporating the lattice work as part of the headliner. After cutting I will re-wrap the headliner and add two plexi-glass sheets. the bottom sheet directly behind the lattice work will have very very small dimples in the glass in a star constellation pattern ect. I will be using fiber optic fed to the side of the glass to light up the dimples. The bigger the dimple in the glass the more predominate the light is. the smaller they are the less light is picked up.. So i can create a huge star field in such a small area.

The second sheet will be on top of that, and will have a special coating adhered to I can turn on light and the star field will turn to a solid white opaque lighting, just like you see in the Maybach. This will be on a separate switch, and added to the door lighting when you open the door or hit unlock. And will fade out, and the star field will appear. :)

My original plan taking it and putting resin down. so it becomes a hard fiberglass? then lay the material out and cut around the lattice design. 

But i went on a long drive to a friends last night ended up thinking about all of it on the way there. I am thinking about cutting the square out of the headliner. Making the cross sections out of aluminum. Then box it around the glass work. Almost like frame it in. The sun roof is right above it, and there is two supports that run across it which would be perfect attachment points. It keeps it free floating this way. I wish the section was going to be a bit bigger.. but I like it. 

If possible, not sure yet and have to look into it. But making the electric opaque sheet on the bottom and the star field on top. this way i can use individual fiber optic strands for each star. Then goes to a control box which can make it twinkle make various patterns, shooting star ect.

New muffler showed up today. I know it looks round, but its oval. I am thinking about adding a second one and run a dual setup.  This will take some effort, wont do right away. debating on s550 amg rear bumper diffuser conversion, and if i do, i need to run dual. I also need to cut the spare tirewell out and make it into a box rather than a round box. You will see what i do there too. I know lots of info for a picture

Hate to thread jack but you seem to have alot of good and different ideas.Im great with fiberglass and panel bond and plastic welding and all that and am running turndowns off my mufflers so im trying to figure out who rear diffuser or bumper to incorporate/mold to my 02 Q rear bumper and also what front bumper. If it has exhaust cut outs thats not a problem because I can fab them closed just have been looking and nothing has caught my eye.Any ideas? PM me if you like

could do a ls460 bumper they are the same shape and dual tipped in the back. I was thinking this one for a while.. but like the amg style rear. as for the front.. i dont know.  The 02 front is a sportier look than the newer updated and president front, leaves room to do a sporty style front bumper too.

okay, well working on the headliner.. again. I am just covering it, and not doing the skylight. I will but it will be later. I dont have the clearance i need to do it, so I have to order the non sunroof  roof. But I got lot more to do then doing that. So, since the glue failed me hard I had to redo it anyway. If it fails me, I am making it a convertible. 

But when i get the non sunroof addition I will get the roof copied from a guy i know who does glass (big smiles) till then.. on with completing the car. and pics when ever i can get my iphone synced to the computer :/

Since I came into some more funding. I might be able to keep the car. Either way I had to somewhat finish it anyway so it could be sell worthy. 

As far as the pano roof goes, it is still on! Instead of doing a custom glass, I will be using one from another car.

I will still be painting the car blue, and I picked out the color interior, and it is in the works. redoing all the black suede to super white. All cause of an avatar I saw on here (not sure who it was) but its two rappers? in the back of a maybach and its all white.

Lol yeah it's such a pain too. The material is quite thin so what ever color is behind it makes the white bright or darker. So black pieces have be dyed white. As for Agi, yeah I have but not trying to make it his problem. I guess he got what he wanted and ran with it. Said he is busy, but so am I but always make time to do what is needed
 he just needs to dedicate a little time to me and not put me on hold. I guess I will just have to fly out there and get it and make my trip worth it

Thought a lot about how the interior is going to be, and i am sharing the idea. so maybe you can all see how it will come together before it comes together.

White interior with subtle black hints and dash will be mostly black a pillars and the felt trim around door openings. upper part of front door panels will be black, white on bottom half black wood, and the insert will be white perforated white suede diamond stitch, to match the center of the white seats. white headliner ect.

 I have been building a rear center console bar which will take up most of the center of the rear seats, which will house storage boxes, a fridge and two stainless flutes for champagne

plastic chroming: seat belt buckles and other plastic parts of it. over head center console, rear vents, and front seat switches.

The car is rather small on the inside for a lot of the things I have in mind.. but the all white interior should open it up a bit

I have tried, and scrapped it twice already but determined to get this piece done. Which is the rear deck lid. It will match the inside trunk floor as well. Doing teak wood deck but in a art deco fashion which would be acrylic coated black planks, joined with white centers instead of the natural wood look with black strips

lol yeah, the front can come down a bit more and still turn too. its all time and finesse. I still need to radius it a bit too add some more pulling ect The front tires are not stretched at all since its a 8.5in width with a 235 on it. eventually the rear lip will go on front and the rears will have a new one made

I am a person against vinyl paint, ect.. And trying really hard to stay away from it. Since these parts are plastic. I wrapped them anyway, will be harder to do the rear doors lower pieces when they come in.. but I will try my best not to paint

this is the pocket that goes in the door panel, since its shallow and quite useless I figured i would make it back lit with some mood lighting. Nothing bright, just subtle since the white material is bright enough for any light to hit it and make it bright.

Sorry no update pics on interior. Everything is looking awesome though. 

Due to Japans recent events; My president front end went missing. I bought it from a buddy from southern japan a while ago, it was then shipped up to a friend who does exporting and shipping. It was in a crate waiting for another container. Sadly, no insurance on it. And dont think I could bring my self to, or even consider saying they should pay for it. What has been done has been done.. and looks like i will be putting on my 05-06 front end parts that have not sold on here. :)

Yeah, still working with insurance company on my car cause there were a lot of things that need a supplement check. And being in autobody for a long time i know how to wrangle my insurance company's for my hard earned money that goes to them. 

It comes down to this, it doesnt matter if its 1000 dollars worth of damage or 50,000. your premium is still going to go up the same.

Been a while since i been here. But this is what is going on:

I am a seat hore apparently, like some are with wheels. I now have three sets of rear seats, and soon to have two sets of fronts. 

We scrapped using the rear seats that were a bench seat, and making it into a split seat fixed captains chairs. Then still having the bench full rear seat from Qfour5, thought I would keep it and use it, then decided to scrap both of those haha.

Dont worry, I am going to turn it into awesome VIP office furniture, and sell it here. So stay tuned! I mean who wouldn't want a pair of black leather front Q45 seats as office chairs, and a rear bench as a couch?

So after much thought, and a homie hook up. I got M45 premium package front seats with the speakers in the tops of the seats, and rear recline m45 seats. This is the heated and the cool seats! I have much wiring to do.. And still have to get them redone in the white.

I am making a full on center console as stated earlier with integrated fridge from a land rover.
And where the silver lining is on the front seats will be black on the full white seat. Should make it pop pretty hard against the black seat belts and trim. My interior guy thought we should use Black LV material for the stripping. will see, as far as i dont know about diamond stitch anymore. 

White stitching on perforated leather? or on perforated suede.. or no diamond at all.. its a hard question cause of the inserts on the doors i think should match. anywho, lots to think about. Input welcome, but i cant guarantee i will use your idea lol

looks exactly the same as the Q45 stuff. should be in any day now. But you know how nissan and infiniti share a lot of things for cost cutting. so i am crossing fingers. but should be a bolt on affair , the wiring on the other hand.. will see I have faith in my wiring skills.

M45 seats are almost the same size they taper a bit at the top differently but not a big deal. however the sliding rails.. do not. way different WAY WAY different. I either have to find q45 ones, or make these work. I am thinkin on makin these work lol

And thanks man! the led thing is pimpin for sure! i have to take it out to darken the areas around the letters cause there is a bit of light coming through.. but i kinda like it.

I can fly for damn near free, so never know.. if i got some time we should kick it. but be more fun to drive down there in the Q so we can Q around lol

The center console is going to be taken apart for damn sure! the seat buttons are going to be exposed on the full stationary console I am making. While the storage bin, will actually be in the seat back. Since there will not be a third seat in the middle. the storage bin will house the Champagne flutes.

Since the storage bin will be in the seat back the center console lid will still be used, but will be the lid for the chill box.

The hide away climate control, and cup holder will be the front of the stationary console. Since the console has to be big enough for the chill box. I will be in hopes to match the pull out cup holders with a bigger one with a large round center to hold the champagne bottle.

Here is some insight to ya'll who want to put a kouki front on a zenki F50. GET YOUR BRACKETS! haha I didnt buy them cause sometimes you dont need them. but this car you need them! the ones that go under the headlight, and the bracket that runs across where the grill attaches and the upper part of the bumper.

You will also need the new shroud. This actually didnt surprise me.

So... i am soooo indecisive. I cant make up mind. AS you can see i love wasting money cause i cant make up my mind on what to do. But what I do know is once you go black, you cant go back haha. But this is new material, and I AM FREAKIN LOVIN IT. so easy to use (well for me) after doing this 3 times now on the same car lol.

I was scrounging around my garage for a missing piece for the car and found the book the car came with. I forgot i removed it and put it in a box. Looking through the manuals i found this tucked in the owners manual

Got the sunroof shade done in the new material. It is such a stark contrast between the old material and this new awesomeness. It stretches pretty good, great with heat, and so far awesome with glue. I put a coat of glue down on the back side, let it set up. and then glue the object, then respray the back side of the material.

and no, that plastic tab and controls are not staying that color. I need to find a good plastic chromer. My buddy who does it, is out of material and wont order it for sometime. I preferably want the metalized dip chrome process.

C pillars are in. for the time being. will need to remove them again when the super secret squirrel rear decklid goes in :D

Yea, I've used the maroonish stuff in the past. It works well but I always hated that tinit to it. Where'd you find the pure black stuff? It looks great!

How hard is it to wrap your interior trim peices with fabric/material, like on a scale of 1-10?
 
I frequently do motor swaps and fabrication work, and am a aircraft mechanic for a living, Im just trying to get syked up to do this, but am afraid I only have 1 shot or I will fuck up my interior. Im mechanically inclined...so that being said...is it hard?

BTW - your build is sick and is definitely an inspiration. I love how everything is done to YOUR personal flavor and purposeful to you only. Thats exactly what I set out to do.

uh, hmm.. I am too.. and I would like to say practice makes perfect. If you believe you can do it, chances are you can do it. And doing it more, makes you do well at it haha. 

Foam backed material is the easiest i think cause you can glue it a lot. make sure you get glue on every inch and over lap on spray cause if you dont.. it will fall down or bubble there. There is a lot of DIY on the internet from VW guys who do it. I read up on theirs to get the knowledge i have now.

different material that was local. I gave it a shot like this one way better. In fact I would pick the old material if I was doing a different color than I am out side. It has a perfect tone, a lot of black materials are different under certain lighting. Check it by using camera flash

thanks hellah! It's a weird build for sure a lot of back and forth on it. Lol but I like the direction a I am taking now. Kinda glad the president front end went missing. I think the 06 is unique as far as no one here does it and it's like the American president f50.

I recommend this as well with exhaust. So much better flow and throttle response. I will be ditching the rubber tube for a aluminum one. As well as installing a catch can. Also! while you are in there. make sure your throttle cable is tight!, mine was pretty loose and now its tight with no slack that any slight movement sharpened up the response of the pedal.

it is just bare aluminum now.. nothing done yet. gonna work at it with my awesome new orbital sander with some 500 grit to 4000 grit foam sanding pads.

thanks! But it is faaaaarrrr from over.. such a pain in the ass to get it just right. Trying to get the "grain" just right and uniformed is a pain. cause the natural motion of your arm is to go in a arch. I had to grid it out with tape so i can follow the correct line. I am using 80 grit to make the machine marks of stainless sheets. Yet still you can see the pig tail swirling from the factory. I am almost tempted to buzz it down again with a orbital sander, and then work my way up to a polish and add the 80 grit lines. 

I do not want to half ass this look, nor do i like to half ass anything. Others may not ever see it, but i will always see it which makes me think others will too. I may do the chroming paint process over the lines to fill the cracks and pig tails in. The chroming should look very nice over the grain. 

anywho, i am not using my s14 jdm spoiler and it has a full clear led strip which i am going to use in the top of the window for a third brake light like the Conty Gt, or in the bumper as a rear fog.

I think I will take that as a compliment. Since there is a lot of style wrapped into one car. It has the sound of a hot rod, the stance and soon to be better fitment like VIP, and the paint to be of flashy lux. I am more concentrating on what USA VIP in my mind is instead of copying what japan VIP is. Which is fine but even now there is a lot of USA influence in Japan car style. At the end of the day people can compare builds and cars to one another. And my car is not, and in my mind no where near VIP.

Don't bother labeling it. I think if one were to try to label their car, they end up limiting themselves. Your car is interesting indeed. I like where the hood is going.

As for the brushed. I want to do the roof to the trunk. The roof is steel and the trunk alum. I hope there is not a big contrast between the two metals. The trunk has the perfect bodyline to finish it. The factory loves grinding the shit out of their metals I am finding all sorts of pigtails left from sanders under the sealer in various spots. Even on the hood. I am still working on it cause it is not perfect. The metal in certain light looks spotty and trying to remove it so it is more uniformed. 

When my new fender roller from Max shows up I will continue in the body work development

put the work in on the polish today. 4 hours later... I think i have about 60 hours in on the hood. i still see some imperfections grr.. but i will let it be for now. Still thinkin about laying down the spray chrome. which isn't that paint stuff, its the two part chemical that lays out clear then turns to silver.. look it up if you arent not sure

If you are going to do that, why not just buff it to a mirror shine? Too much work?

the silver will only look mirror finish if it is perfectly smooth. It is meant for painted surfaces like chroming a whole car etc. if i were to leave brushed lines it would only look shiny but keep the brushed lines but make the look more uniformed. right now it is still showing the imperfections of the metal its self. So the silver would make it look right. But as of right now it looks awesome. but I ran out of out side light, and that is when you can see it. As well as night time under a streetlight. The spots look dark, and some light. You can see it towards the top of the hood as it curls around for a body line to the wipers. This was the mid polished stage and sand. I polished then went over it with a coarse scotch brite on a handle.

These are the steps:
1 mark off with tape the desired area to be brushed.

2 paint peal sealer/paint off

3 wash

4 retape

5 grits used 120, 320, wd40 to clean and soak the sand paper, i use this not water.. it creates a well lubricated surface for polishing metals. Some use water and soap, but this is used for paint surfaces.

6 wash with detergant 

7 retape

8 polish with mothers metal polishing, use by hand first, make sure it is uniformed. It turns black, so keep it uniformed you dont want to start wiping it off.

9 buff off by hand with soft cloth

10 to get rid of the residue that is still left ( use a lot of the polish compound) use mothers clay brick spray, and a towel, this brings up the polish more.

11 use a sharpie and tape to start marking a straight vertical grid that is the width of the handle device used for the sand paper.

12 80 grit is used over the scotch brite pad on a handle, it adds a bit of cushion and makes for light brush stroked. and stay in the lines.. ( I know its difficult, but i learned fast in kindergarten)

13 clean area again and make sure all sharpie marks are gone. and follow polish process again

14 follow up 80 grit with the scotch pad again, this will tone down the 80grit. some 80 grits are more coarse than others. I used 3m its purple and you can buy it at autozone.

but i got some more suede in. And went to town on the wrapping. Working on the trunk area. Which is coming along nice. Slowly coming upon 06 trunk conversion parts. Ordered two sets of used tails so i can do something dumb with them. :biggthumpup: so if it comes out awesome i can sell the second set to another lucky f50 owner lol.

Great job! i did something very similar to a customers car but instead of stipping down to bare metal i layed down  a silver and then scufffed it to give it the same look you did. then cleared it came out pretty good.. just giving another option but like i said great job..

ahh, on with the pics. did my lower pillars today. and put a 25mm spacer on the front wheel. Looks like i need 25mm more of dish in the front and we got perfection. Been wanting to do this for a while now. but now i know how far i need to go. I use to be about make the car fit the wheels, now i am about making the wheels fit the car. Get tighter tolerances this way in my opinion

smaller tire like a 225, on a 9.5 will make it work perfect with the stretch and lower more.

Thanks for the updates. i like the way you've wrapped your arms around the entire build at once, multi tasking and a half. at the same time build seems to be moving along pretty damn quickly. especially when you factor in the types of mods you've gone after.

Aj what are you running for offsets cuz with the work and pull you've done you should be able to run serious negative at that size to my belief and knowledge. Look at my build and q45er's unless I missed something you should be looking good soon if not already. No disrespect or attitude I just want to see you get the results you want and I know I'd love to see

Yeah man for sure. With the front wheel it is 8.5 wide +3 it now has a 25mm spacer on it and 0 camber in front. When ever my fender roller gets here I can then roll it out a bit more I think. Right now I am passed hammer dolly and torch stage. I like to use minimal bondo which I may need to do regardless for the rear fenders. 

As for the rear wheels I am not sure yet. Time will tell when I get the roller. With the way it is now I can get the real wheel 0 camber and still clear. Which is 9.5 neg 1. With the camber I have I can add another inch and half to the dish. But since I am going to radius it I am taking away how much further I can go. Which is why I would really like to shorten every thing in the back and front to gain more. To have super dish on factory metal with no added on metal graphed in flares is my mission. Call it usdm hype to have the most dish where VIP is not about that so much anymore it seems

Every stage is a mess about stage. Trying something new, if it dont work, do something else. I can say the next stage is making all the handles for the inside of the doors and upper grab handles out of carbon fiber. I do want some carbon mixed in with the wood. I think they are a great combination when we do cabinets for garages. so why not apply it for the car. The teak work should be done sometime soon i hope. Still working on the trunk area since i have neglected that the most.

Nice build. Attention to detail is insane.

How did you go about chroming the grill? Are the newer grills metal? Only reason I asked is because someone backed into my car and cracked my jdm cima grill. Looking to repair and refinish somehow.

The grill is plastic to repair it means you have to fiberglass it and get it chrome dipped

oh what! i can fit a 25mm spacer on my wheel now? shit.. now i gotta get the rears rebarreled 25mm more lip! arg.. oh well.

oh yeah, rolled it so far out that it creased the quarter, oops.. time to finish it up with hammer doll and cut my radius!

One thing i do not like about the fender roller is that it started to make a full rolled lip at the edge. weak sauce. Luckly it will be cut off.

now something that is been hurting my brain. i looked it up on the 1010tires.com but i dont think it is right. My 19x9.5 with neg 1 offset says it will add wheel in the back when i rebarrel it. but it cant if i keep the disc where it is, and essentially add more lip to the front. so technically it should be a 19x10.5 neg 26mm right? or am i just more confused? i can understand if i add more to the back barrel

Nope can't do that. It needs a halo put into make a true two piece. As stated the front is 8.5 wanting to go 9.5 which is what the rear is. And make all new one and make that a 10.5.

can these cars handle Negative offsets without any major fender work?

Depends on the width of the wheel. my 9.5 neg 1 fit perfect with a slight fender roll. but with the new setup.. i will be at -26 at most. This is with out any camber bars or anything. In fact, I dont want to have uber camber. Once all the work gets done i will be measuring down to the millimeter so i can get the right offset. Nor will the wheels be rebarreled til i shorten the control arms and rods and mod the strut tower. I am still looking for an extra 25mm some where in there. i know i can get it!!! :biggthumpup: 

With out suspension arm mods, i could rock 5.4 inch of lip in front and about 6.2 inch of lip in the rear if i were to rebarrel the wheels right now. I am ecstatic about my feat here. Sure people can camber it and add super flare add on going into the doors etc.. but like stated above, i am trying to keep the metal all factory no adding.

anyway..love where youre headed with this, and the hood is so sick!  are you gonna rebarrel to a step lip?  Cus i think it'd look better if you size up the diameter, and since youre radiusing and modifying suspension, getting low wont be an issue.

But then I would lose the dish i am looking for as well as suspension travel. I am not to sure on overall dia changes but I am sure it's a lot vs what I have now for the cars setup. I just like where the camber is now and don't want to get more extreme with it.

Since's it's 2 piece, you need to rebarrel to a 19x10.5 -14.  That will keep your inner clearance the same & extend the outer lip by an inch (26mm).

offset is measured from the centerline. adding 1" to the inner/outer only moves the centerline .5".

I see. I think. Make a 10.5 inch barrel center line is 0 which would only give me a half inch more of lip? It would still have more room to come out further but not moving the inner part of the wheel as if it were to still be a 9.5 neg1 is what my consensus is

no. you would gain an inch of lip, however you would only lower the offset by 13mm. 9.5 -1 with a 1" larger lip would become a 10.5" -14. consider the original centerline, then add an inch to the outer edge, then split the inner to outer edge in down the middle for the new centerline. an increase of an inch only moves the centerline .5" but the pad is still in the same place. this means the centerline has moved 13mm away from the pad.

oh! okay, i got ya! I went mad today and jacked up the car and put another 25mm spacer on. and the tread of the tire only sticks out 10mm haha scary stuff here. and its a federal which runs wide already and its a 235 35 on a 9.5 the possibilities are endless!

the car could not be let down all the way cause the tire hit. if the tire was smaller since i am running a bigger than needed tire, it would have cambered in just fine. it had an inch or so before it could go down and camber in. since it has hardly camber now. wonder if i can get any more of a pull before i call it quits. Am i addicted to gettin lip? yup lol

edit, this is with 2 25mm spacers.

OK so a sneak peak on the trunk. i pulled the upper panel so i can route the heater vents into the trunk to finally do my fan setup for the wet umbrellas. My model came with the vents that go to the rear in the doors etc. so i figure that would be a good route. I may still do this. but i never realized how much space is actually there!

pretty slim sub. the amp is retarded big but it works pretty good. I doubt i am going to replace it with any upgraded since factory stuff works very well. I am going to move the sub probably in cabin since its pretty thin as well as the amp will go somewhere else in the trunk.

I would move the car outside but wouldnt be able to get it back in unless i had 5 people pushing it up into the garage again haha. grr. Just under the weather about the whole thing. its like a fallen soldier. :(

lol well it might be the dealer who replaces the motor actually. so I cant really say what swap goes what. and i dont have the time really to faff around with making something work, if it isnt direct. its a daily so it will stay one for sure. Mainly i cant decide what wheels would look good on it haha, i like the stock ones on it, it gives a nice comfy ride. 

But yeah, almost 5 qts low on oil after 3k miles! found this out when i went to start it made a clacking noise, added the oil. went away, then drove it, and stalled out with a big clunk metal noise. Sure I should check after them who do the oil. but been taking it to them for every oil change since owning the car. This way it keeps record of everything. The car didnt show any major leak of oil, my Q burns oil and about a qt every 2800 miles. and the jag, never burnt any oil so whys it missing that much? i think it would be pretty noticeable if it were leaking that much in that time or using it out the back of the exhaust

it is an 02, and electrics are on point, as far as motor.. the puff of smoke on start up apparently is normal after it sits anywhere for 8 hours.

The hardest part is trying to keep it from looking like a mirror. This is all hand sanded too. I am just hoping when i use the da sander with the foam pads it doesnt take the 80 grit lines out. Cause right now it just looks like over polished stainless. Which, to me is fine. It goes with the pilars, the grill, and the polish wheels. 

As i am inching towards getting to paint, it should all come together. Though, i am having reservations to the blue i picked. Might be to much, but it will work with the loudness of the stance and the hood. Kind of a juvenile look to it. The color i wanted before i decided i should go to blue (thanks to Young Jeezy's line "Phantom painted avatar blue" ) was the deep charcoal color from lexus. Its a elegant color, and with all the polish stuff going on, it would look proper. Especially with blood red seats and door inserts. So, will see. I still need to do the 06 rear conversion too.

It's the chrome tanker trucks and my blinding ass watch hanging out the window when I floss my shine LOL

I am a person that stares at the car all the time. I admire the look of it, and the direction it's going. It's art work. The more I look at it and study it, the more I wonder how the overal color outcome will be. I am thnkin on vinyl wrapping it blue to see if I like it lol

I finally found the puzzle piecei was looking for to execute the coloring. Before I was having trouble with the bodylines. Since I was basing everything on the president conversion. The kouki front has lines in the hood that make the polished hood work in my eyes. Since the line on the hood stops at the grill, unlike the kouki where it goes around it and connects to the bumper. But I got it figured out with a late night of studying the car in the garage and the best possible way to connect and flow. 

I know I write a lot on here which is a lot to read. But to me there informative updates rathrrthan pictoral. I use them as notes, and motivation to others who may seek what ever info on their car. 

I stress to every one study the cars lines. Become a designer of it. If you are gonna do wheels buy ones that follow lines of the car, just don't slap what ever you find on. You going for a one off kit? Break out a protractor and find lines that suit. Take measurements on everything, find what size that arch is that is in the bumper is it the same as the car you taking the bumper from?  Use wikipedia to find dimensions of other cars as a base you will be surprised how many cars share the same and are inspired from other higher end cars. Like the f50 is a copy of the s500 of those years so a lot works with it for example.

This is how i am going to do my pin stripe. I realized the black window trim that I was going to get chromed to match the president f50, I am not. In fact it will tie in with the stripe on the hood. It will be 3/4in wide which is the body line coming up from the bumper on to the hood by the grill and then continuing on to the window trim to make a full continuous line. This will make a nice addition to contrast between the color of the car, and the abu dhabi section. I think this will be the only way i will feel happy with the "blue" color i chose.

The line will surround the underside of the grill as well, though, i might change it and add more definition to the bumper once i customize it. So i can add the body line down the middle of the bumper like the way the GTR front bumper is, and the Audi, etc. 

I am sure you are not wondering what else i will tie in with the black stripe, but lucky for you, i am gonna fill you in! =) The base of the mirrors will be black, the windows of the wheels will be black as well as the underside of the JP spoiler, the rain gutters. And if i can source out the 06 f50 trim, the chrome trim line will be black as well.

Maybe, add some fancy pin stripping on the hood like ASI bentley

I am slower and lower to reply lol. Though I finally had time to get more glue so i can finish sueding. 

Car is about to go in new shop so I can finish work. The old shop had lots of space and a lift. Had to move all my shit and gained a lot of stuff when it was closed up. But now made a deal for space at a place and finish car. So much easier when you can use a lift instead of jacking car up all crazy to do work. Spend 25 minutes doing that alone. 

Hopefully paint will come soon. No update pics as I am waiting till more things are done so I can shock the people with WTF did you do that for comments :innoutrofl2:

I noticed a lot of key similarities between the maybach and the F50. And that being the seats. I talked to my upholster guy and we are going to put work to the contours and the headrest in the F50 to look like these. Since even the design of the F50 seat is almost the same just no piping or custom array of colors to choose

Looks so so fresh AJ, I wish my ish was 100% done (visors & pillars) I still thnk that's some bullshit, lol... I like that idea about sueding the plastic man, very interesting... that's ill, I might bite, lol. 
 
Doing the sunroof's pull tab in chrome might b out of place since it's going to be isolated from everything else that's gonna b in chrome but do you... just keep in mind that it's such a small item on the headliner, makes sense? But it's easily reversible anyways... and yah the maybach seats resemble my seats as well... you can sit on them, lol...

Got the cabin filter out... man that shit was dirty!!! I got pics coming soon. It was soo dirty there was leaves, on top of the bottom cover of the glove box!! It looks like a dirty old vac cleaner bag. Always wondered why there was a lot of dust in the car after i clean it relentlessly. I also, cut my finger hella bad on the stupid glove box bracket. Its soo fucking sharp its a razor blade that took the skin right off my knuckle almost to bone, well it might be to scared to look so i wrapped towel and tape on it lol

You dont need to drop the entire assembly to get to it, but I want to add some sound deadener to that area to quite some rattles and the sound of the fan.

lol damn i should've taken pictures of my cabin filters before i threw them away... i bought my car from my cousin who used to hotbox in the car... cabin filters had like 150k miles on them... i had entire leaves and the filters were thoroughly caked.

In between blue mountain state episodes I have been photoshopping some schemes. Since I am not totally sold on the "blue" i picked.. Here is one I came up with by total accident. and to be honest.. I frickin love it! Color interior would be very complimentary and it be black with cream interior.

Thanks guys. I was trying to find the lines of where you could two tone it a while back. And then when I saw this f50 I thought ooh I am gonna try it. I have been struggling o. How I would bring the blue all together with the rest of the car. And when I visually saw this chop come to life I knew I had been going down the wrong path of color. And the two types of gray totally work even tho I do like the burgandy and slate gray too lol


As for the tips really not sure have to ask someone much higher in edumication on that stuff

any yeah man.. that cabin filter was toast. I also found out that my glove box had been replaced as well as my air bag! yay.. so my car was a total at one point and probably didnt go on insurance or claimed. I knew the coresupport was worked on but sheesh!

While the Glove box was off I took it all apart. It rattled some times and wanted to pad up the inside with the scrap suede i have to kill all rattles and make it less cheezy feeling

Yeah I was getting worried there might be to much. But as of right now I only have 3 more pieces left. The glove box had that flock which had to go. And there will be no suede on the doors or any where on the seats except that lower piece and possibly the trunk. And no diamond stitch lol! Decided against it. There is no more suede than what a maybach has :)

I do not know why there is a hole cut out for the reflector.. it almost seems there should be a light behind it. I like that its small enough the reflector looks better behind it. I was thinking about deleting it all together.. but that will take more time than i have for these lights. Maybe on the next pair

What did u do to the headlights?

great question! Now i know the subtle details will only be picked up by the f50 enthusiasts lol

took the orange marker out so what ever bulb you stick in there it will light up to that color, and it wont have a orange glow, paint the Gatling housing black, soon to paint the headlight housing, and put leds in the turn signal area

I am beat.. :( got the headlight all back together, even tested these LEDS i got they are bright as all can be, super white. they turned out great. Then, put it in the oven baked it and closed it all up. then, after turning the headlight on to get some pictures of the thing on, i left it on went inside to get camera came out, and the leds turned blue!! I dont know if it was cause they were getting to hot, to much current or what.. so i had to make a quick decision, and had to use the leds i was going to use per lamp in one now.. oh well.. its back together, i hope it doesnt leak or get moisture inside.. But, I am wanting newer 05/06 lights now, and will probably sell these as projectors. Sad day, I dont even want to do the passenger side. Will take pics when i get it back together, taking a VSC break lol

Hahaha thanks! Now just to execute it, it willbe the toughest for me. I want to be that aggressive with the wheels but I don't want to be on the ground like that since I want to remain on coils. Not really looking at radius into the door like him. But I want to be close, I just hope my wheels will suffice the color combination I did. Maybe rebarrel them into 20s too

Yeah, for sure! Though the crowns in the road here are emense sometimes and we do have shitty road work here too. But someof the flattest roads in the area it just catches you by surprise. Where every where else you expect it lol. I was thingkin on raising the engine a bit which will make it clear oil pan and trans and exhaust too and channel the frame rails but I don't know on going that far with the rails.

Hmmm, care to elaborate?

Cut a inch or less length wise on the rail and raise it up. Often using thicker material to add strength and flatter material so everythig is smooth on the bottom

You're right about the maybach seats having similarities to the F50.  There is piping on the '05-06 also. :biggthumpup:

I think the tails on my car are not originals. since they were not put together like most tails or headlights with that black goop crap.

I thought I would try my idea on these tails before going to the 06 tails. Gato and I were talking about modifying the tails to have a iridescent look rather then the concentrated look or able to see the bulbs when off or on. I like the glow. And all i did was frost the inner lens front and back, and the back of the outer lens.

The 06 tails will be gutted of the leds and have a full thick piece of acrylic with the original leds in the edges and elglow tape on the back. Which will give it the same iridescent look, but be able to get brighter with brakes applied

BTW is your headlights open already? can you measure the size(diameter) of the turn signal for me?

No elglow. And my headlights are sealed I still need to do the other side but awaiting for cleaner lenses

This thing is making alot of progress, slow but steady :biggthumpup: really digging the taillights bro....

oh yes sir! haha Its amazing really.. I cut an inch up higher, yet with how much its flared out, i still can camber the wheel outwards a bit and not rub. even with a 235 35 federal. and remember this is a 19x9.5 -3 with a 25mm spacer on it.:biggthumpup: It is what i call a perfect pull and roll and cut. it wraps around the contour of the wheel. The real challenge will be dialing in the front height and wheel to match the rear setup. I want it even all the way around but still be able to turn. 

So i have to take the back wheel put it on the front, pull the fender trim it if need be. and add spacers till I get it where I want it to be under full lock, and under load to see where it hits. If it does not when all said and done. measure the spacers i put on with the wheel size and offset and rebarrel the wheel.

like I said to others, I am really surprised anyone can, or did read through this whole thing. Cause a lot of it is just back and forth on build and mostly words and thoughts. The work is pretty much 5 percent of the thought I put into it. 

I would really like to do more to it. I got more the fender trimmed and beaten to where i am happy so far to continue the rest of the fenders.

sorry for no updates really. I got some parts from our member FLS. Soon to be installed. I have been working on the small details on my Jag so nothing really new to report on the Q. (except buy some hood grommets, make a laundry list for things to bring back from japan. I did however get to work on some stuff for the s14.

also, why are sunvisors so damn hard to work on?? So difficult to get them apart! I made a thread about it, and since then i got half way and gave up haha. I just need to get it apart so i can the hardware plastic chromed so i can suede it up!

My check list is: 
Get custom coilovers done
body work done 
buy rest of 06 trunk stuff
find headlights (japan maybe)
Get lucky with another President front end? maybe.
Rebarrel wheels
Finish carbon work
Finish inside trunk

oh yeah, and brakes? 04 Sentra Brembos that is if F50 brakes fit 240s it should be a simple swap.

Why won't you just build your own...? Make a mold of the original lights(glass and back piece), use the glass mold to make a clear plexi/carbonate one and fiberglass the back portion and then retrofit any projectors you like. Just a thought:shrug:

I believe that's easier said than done. I did see a youtube video on how to make a plexiglass shroud, and it was pretty interesting, and easy seeming. BUT, it always looks easy in a video, and then you find out you don't know what you are doing :sad:
