gonna refinish my rims

well, i took my rims off cuz my left front kept loosing air, front tires has bad camber wear... after i took the tires off, i started taking apart the wheels... plan is to either powder coat or paint (basecoat/clearcoat) the outer lip and face black... gonna keep the bolt heads chrome.

of all things i can do, powder coating isnt one of them... so i gotta price around how much itll be to powder coat... if not, ill be painting them myself. would much rather powder coat cuz the finish is stronger than regular paint, and does chip as easily... stay tuned boys and girls...

yeah i wouldn't paint the lips...the face yes, but the too much debris get kicked onto the lips...painting would be the most cost effective way...and you can change the color anytime you want...if you want to paint the wheels, use plasticiser...the paint will be a little more chip resistant...

paint + clear = your friend.

I second VIP-UCF on not painting the lips. But on an unrelated note, when did you get Bazreias? I could have sworn you had Shallen LXs

I've had these weds for awhile now... and ain't a damn thing going on with my presi. Having a hard time getting this sessions body kit. The guy I'm going thru, his connect in japan is being shady so imma just wait it out a little longer. 

I'm for sure gonna powder coat the lips, still thinking about the face... cuz I know nothing can beat and electronically charged paint (powder actually). But after,ifi don't like the outcome, I canalways scuff up the surface and spray clear over...

were those the same wheels that was on the brown G50? what are the wheel specs?

yeah, they are powder coated... today, i sealed them together. went to home depot and bought some heavy duty silicone. and heres how i did it..
bolted the 3pcs together but not snug, i only put the nuts on a couple thread on the bolts so i can separate the 2 barrels but still have them aligned. and the barrels are centered to each other with the face.

used 2 flat head screw drivers to separate the 2 barrels.

which exposed about an 1/8" gap so the silicone can go all the way between the 2 barrels, and on to the threads...

after, i tightened all the nuts, cleaned up the silicone and made it all nice..

all cleaned up, silicone will set in 24hrs, flexible and durable. oh yeah, gotta make sure both surfaces are clean and prepped, i used an angle grinder with a wire wheel to clean off any old silicone and prep the surface...

my shop is closed sundays, so monday ill mount up some tires, still gotta buy lug nuts, and hopefully ill have them on then...

Man, I wish my Shallen WX's were three piece like this.  When I bought them I had no plans to ever change the finish but now I want to.  :(

Your wheels look great btw!  I really like the black even though I think I would have used a satin on the wheel face and gloss on the lips only.

nice! i just silicone'd my wheels earlier. took a while but it works out good. i used regular all purpose silicone at walmart

Nice work man, came out looking really nice.  I want to see someone do the same thing you did but with a black chrome finish.  That would look really good imo.

i dont thinks will do them justice because it really is kinda hard to see... im thinking i shouldve done the centers matte black or something.. but oh well, i guess... looks gangsta, also hard to picture cuz well my car is 3 different colors. but ill be starting bodywork and painting it black... enjoy...
