So, I was pondering. (spindles)

Okay, so the Y33;In order to use a s14 spindle or s13 spindle you have to change out the control arm, so you can use the lower ball joint. (is that correct?)

I am curious in this, and here is why:

Y34, F50 chassis all have a very different lower control arm then that of Y33 ect. I am wondering how different the ball joints are. Granted anything can be modified to work.. But what makes me ponder this is trying to get the most camber in front out of my ride. If anyone has lower control arm thats not on the car.. and a s-chassis spindle 13 or 14.. take a look. or you can send it to me :D (laughs)

I would take mine off but would rather mock this up off the car.. Sadly I am almost done with all the suspension and yet wanting to change it all again.. I like the s-chassis style coilovers on vip applications for the camber goes as crazy as the imagination.

To follow up on something to maybe reconfirm this. Y32 jic coilovers fit a y34. They too have different lower control arms.. so that means the taper in the ball joint should be the same regardless.. Just means if you are using S-chassis suspension you have to make a bracket for the sway bar link..

Do it bro. Everyone will be running S chassis suspension on their Q45's now
I would've written sooner, but to be honest, I ain't completely sure what you're tryin to do :pat:
Here's an attempt at helping:
I did my whole swap on all S13 parts. S13 knuckles, S13 Tie Rods, S13 LCA. but to be honest, I was dissapointed with the end result. My track was severely cut short. And wheel fitment was poor, extremely poor. I found S13 LCA's to be approx an inch shorter than Y33. But just by lookin ant em, BJ's of S13 and Y33, are obviously different. I forget exactly why, but I remember they're different for sure. So after measuring I noticed the bottom of the BJ's were the same, so I pressed out the Y33 BJ from its LCA, and replaced it with the S13 BJ. So basically, my set up consists of S13 knucles, S13 Tie Rods, S13 BJ/Y33 LCA. I'm running this set up to widen up front track, and the S13 BJ to fit the S13 knuckles.
Keep in mind this is all S13 parts, and I'm almost certain S14 LCA's and BJ's are different. So they may be exact matches to Y33, or maybe F50.

Hope this helps to answer some of your questions, I'm sure it ain't all of em. LMK if this brings up more though, i'd like to help if I can

hey thanks! Basically trying to achieve what has been done with the s-chassis cross over onto y33's.

I am trying to find coilover lower perch and collars to mock this setup. I have the cartridges that are threaded, and top hats are coming from a friend of mine. I am wanting to see how far off they are on pattern wise for the F50. I heard somewhere they are close.. but widen hole and washer it? will see.

I like the stock setup, but for me JIC is just a short stroke shock with weld on threads. I like full strut hight adjustment before getting into preload adjustment for hight aesthetics.

It will be a slow process, well maybe.. so bare with the updates!

ugh
the s13/14/15 lca balljoint are smaller htan the y32/33/34

the LCA is only a measure of length, swaybar mount, and tension rod mount. The balljoint is the thing you have to worry about. you can get adjustable tension rods, run no sway bar (you dont need it) but you cant put a knuckle witht eh wrong balljoint together

hmm but it is smaller? okay. well I will wait til it gets here to take some measurements to see what I am going to be dealing with. I have a good friend who does cnc machine work at his home. Maybe we can fab up a helicoil, or weld on a heim jointed end or make a whole new piece! :)

I tend to let nothing that I want to do stand in the way. I have twisted thoughts and dreams about projects. Trying to push the envelope of what can be done. So I will not let it stand in the way of my dreams! (laughs) My Nissan S14 is proof of mentally challenged project building

How're they smaller??
I pressed out my Y33 BJ and put an S13 one on my Y33 LCA and it fit perfect, same size

Taper's are different, but that's another thing
That's why I did what I did, to match up the BJ's to the knuckles

So essentially you don't need S chassi LCA's if you can get the ball joints.
Interesting.

Oh for sure! Doesn't have to be the same view or idea. just a new way of doing things that can help someone else out, that others have yet to think about. I mean it took one person to realize the whole s-chassis on a y33 chassis.

interesting thoughts, in my setup I'm running s14 lca and knuckles, I know s13 lca's are shorter than S14 and the taper on the ball joint is different. When I did my conversion I was gonna do a comparison of the three (s13,14, and y33) because I have s13, s14, and Y33 lca's in my garage, but was too lazy lol! to separate the knuckles frm lca when I took em off my Y33, but I like the idea Brokey33 did of just switching out the ball joints

Yup, I was disappoineted in the end result of the S13 LCA. Luckily I didnt scrap my Y33 ones right away and thought about swapping the BJ's. Other wise, id be having some huge as spacers to compensate the lack of track

Yeah that is why most people when doing a 5 lug on an s13 get a hold of s14 LCA and either swap ball joints or get s14 knuckles as well so they can run more camber due to the longer s14 lca's.

but knowing that the bj can just be pressed in saves the hassle of trying to locate lca's and just buy new ball joints instead.

Yeah that works great, I love Nissans hahaha
Its better replacing a bj like this, cause even if you can find a used LCA, its still best to change out that bj, just to be safe

I had a chat with Grant/Yokotas13, he told me to consider doing the same thing, use S-chassis supension parts for my Y34. I may consider it depending on what you guys find out. I don't like the smaller ball joint thing tho, as I am planning to auto cross my Y34.

IDK why none of the other Y34 owners haven't done it. I know I would've tried if I owned one hahaha.
Go for it, you'll revolutionize suspension for those cars. The joints aren't really much smaller, the taper's are slightly different

Oh yeah, and IIRC Nissan doesn't sell BJ's seperately, you'd have to buy the whole LCA and pop out the BJ.
But there are aftermarket joints available out there

^ yup, I am trying to get my hands on a salvage titled M45 its missing the engine.. but i wanted it for a 4dr drift car. Since i have a spare RB25 i want to drop in. and doing this on the F50, would make tons sense on doing it to the Y34 since I would like to drift one. Since I am backed up on so much other stuff the updates are slow, which i apologize for I am sorry.

What's the main point of doin the swap?? Narrowin the car's track??

I thought the main point is, its an alternative to Y33 coilovers, and allowing the car to get lower than what Y33 coils offer (if that's what your after)

And the difference between S13 to S14 may be 5mm but not S13 to Y33, its almost an inch, I didn't measure em, being is I didn't care exactly what the diff was, I just knew they were significantly longer. And an inch per side would widen the car 2 inches over all. That with some aggressive ass wheels, and you've got a mean sittin stance

the main reason me and dom in initially started this project was to narrow track to run lower offsets and be able to use s13 coils for more camber wit hthe slotted top bolt

i could have gotten just as low on y33 coils, but s13 was just easier, plus i had all the parts just chilling

I respect that reason for wantin to run lower offset wheels. That's dedication for some deep ass wheels, and a well thought idea. I as well as many others should thank y'all for this mod, thanks.

I personally would rather keep the longer track with low offset wheels, and pull fenders, than keep the body stock on low offset wheels and narrow track. We all just got different goals, its all good

And from what I've seen, this swap does allow for more drop than Y33 coils. At least with the Insurance, they don't allow for as much of a drop.

you guys just got all crazy on this thread! (_O_) I wish i had more time to pound out on this, but still scouring for parts to do this is making it hard too. Since I ran out of room for cars I would have known this by now, since I would have picked up a Y34 already.

Y34s I think have a wider track than that of a F50. But I really want a Y34 for drifo-mundo. Since they do come with RB25's in japan, it really caught my eye as a bomb digity drift car. Granted I have a s14 to do all that.. but that is sooo yesterday (^-^)

The vehicles track is narrower it the shorter LCA's. Of course wheel offset will widen the cars stance, but that holds true under any circumstance.

Before I did my swap, I mounted my wheels on the car to see what I had to play with, that gave me a reference point of where my poke was. Then I did the swap, with S13 LCA, and my wheels were mad sunken in. Swapped out BJ to Y33 LCA and I was back to where I was in the beginning. Regardless of wheels, the hub is positioning on the vehicle changes, thus changing the vehicles front track.
Wheels and spacers will also change it, but that holds true for every car, every track. The suspension could be stock and wheels stock, adding 10mm spacers will widen track. Or going from 18x10+30 to 18x10+20 will also change it. This could be on Y33's, S13's, Honda civics, it don't matter the car, that example will always hold true.

of course it changes track if you keep the same wheels, but then again, defeats one of hte main purposes of the swap
change the wheels to match the new track, and you still have the same exact track you had before, with better wheels.

just becuase you didnt want to spend the money on new wheels, so swapped back tot he other LCAs doesnt mean its a bad thing to have s13 stuff

With what I got now, running the S13 LCA's would've been cool, cause it would've minimized my pull. Its all good though, I like the aggressiveness my front end has now

But you gotta figure, most people on here aren't running wheels as aggressive as you or I may run. And shit, there'll probably be some running more aggressive.

And based on all the comments you be leavin people, I think you'd agree, for the majority, running the combo I ran would probably suit em best to get good fitment with the average wheels out there

you can take my comments however you like, but it may be easy for you guys, since we did all the work, but the inspiration were the guys in japan doing it, but not giving out any info. they did it for the right reasons, lower offsets, being low, more camber, all leading ot better fitment, not wheels poking.

I understand the reasons for the swap

And I bet all that do it, don't have those goals in mind.
But wheel poke is the start to great fitment, makin the car fit the wheels is better than buyin wheels that fit the car
If you don't mind me askin then, how aggressive were you able to get in front after the swap.
Curious to see the outcome

then fix your fenders so you dont poke, or put wheels on that done
you dont drive a VW

9j -16ish was the final, but cedric front fenders arent as wide as y33, so on my cima it could have been 9j -30 easy

Hahaha I'm workin on gettin more camber outta it right now

But yeah, that would fit a Y33 easily. And probably using the Y33 LCA's too. It still may have been too sunkin for S13 LCA

I think somethin deeper than 9j -30 could fit cause I'm on 10j -28, difference is somethin like 10mm less on the 9j. Add that and the inch lost with S13 LCA's and you're about 35ish less than where I'm at. My wheels ain't pokin that much, I only pulled like 15mm. That 9j -30 would have to be zero camber, and even then, fitment might still be weak.
Would be nice to see wheels somethin like that on a Y33 though

No prob, to each his own

In fact, critisim goes further than some sort of approval. And you're the first to critisize hahaha no surprise.
This ain't my last set of wheels, that's fursure, but imma rock em for a while, till I get bored of em

If I had the funds to do body work at this time, it'd be gettin done, trust. I already know what I want, but most of them cars ain't to where they're at over night, nor will mine. They're all built in time, through various set ups and stages, and that's where I'm goin too. Even if its swappin suspension, wheels, body parts. There ain't only one way to build a car

Initially I thought the narrower track was going to be a bad thing. After reading the back and forth discussion that you two have had, what I take from it is...running the s13 is a good option if you want to run more aggressive wheels. I see positives from both setups and s13 lca are practically free anyways, so if we ever want to switch out to s13 to fit wheels, its simple

See...theres a positive from all this

Yeah, with a narrower track you can run a bigger brake setup while retaining a bigger lip in front. Which is what i want to do on my F50, but I need new barrels for mine.. and finding a pair of in the size i want will be difficult.. but not impossible.

I say do what ever roll, pull, offset, width ect.. that you want.. In the end it is your style :) no one likes a copy cat. Brokey I think your stance is nice, It gives a nice tough look to it.

Umm yeah, sorry Kouki Monster, guess things got a lil off topic hahaha
But yeah, to each his own, no one likes a copy cat, it does feel good havin a car that doesn't look like everyone elses out there. Every Q I see in my area, if I get lucky to see one, is completely stock. I only see like maybe 1 a month, if that.

Hey folks, seems like you guys know what you guys are talking about, I got a question and can't find answer anywhere, or I am just not searching with right words...

I'm in process of converting my friend's Y33 with S13 suspension back to Y33 suspension...[he's looking to sell the car when he gets back from the desert]

I don't know what he did with his old Y33 suspension parts so that'll put another question away from you guys.

I am in need of Y33 front ball joint for the LCA. I already compared the Y33 and my S14's Front LCA Ball Joints and here's the diference..

-Y33 is shorter in length then S14
-Y33's taper is thicker then the S14
-Y33 and S14 ball joints can be pressed into the LCA's no problem, but unsure how safe that would be using a different tapered ball joints...
-S14's Front LCA Ball joints part number for Moog is K9820...

So, does anyone know how to get this ball joint with out ordering a whole new LCA for the Y33? Any help would be much appreciated!
