How to get your car sponsored.

I have been posting a series of articles on our site about how to go about getting your car sponsored. 

I thought some of you guys might be interested in this series of articles I am posting about getting sponsored.

Over my “career” I have won over 50 trophies with the various cars and been a part of over 20 best crew awards with Jade Motorsports. My cars have been featured in multiple international magazines, internet websites and the BMW even had a cameo in 2Fast 2 Furious. Thanks to all of that success I have received 10’s of thousands of dollars in sponsored product for myself and helped Jade get even more than that. You may not agree with how my cars look but its tough to argue the results.

Honestly, congrats about your success, however you sound more like your trying to sell something and bragging in a need for speed format type brochure. Most of us here care very lttle about prowess of building cars for celebrity status or becoming billboards for companies. Some of us already have a family we're quite fond of without global international exposure or the need to "fit in". The "follow the leader theory" is also very unappealing and basically sounds more like a sell out recipe or quick access to the freeway of mainstream death to aspects of automotive liberation. As far as "in crowd" and "popularity" is concerned (and i hope i speak for some in here) we left that at the door after high school. Although this info may prove to be invaluable it sounds more like a regurgitation of someone elses preaching or an article i read in Stuper Street back in the early 90's. Sure free stuff is nice, but at what cost? We dont depend on this to push forward cuz we already know about paying to play cuz do it day to day ( yeh, rhymin!). Lastly I dont get mad at peeps with sponsors, cuz ethically/morally you should never dis someone elses come ups..also please dont tell us how to build our rides like its a cardboard cutout design....personally comes off as being offensive. I love cars, all kinds and dont build for anyone but myself. If a trophy came my way by chance i would hope its the only one so it isnt lost in the landscape to selling out.....and F&F? Pulleeze...

No disrespect taken. I am not selling anything but was trying to put some info out there that might help some people understand how sponsorship works. 

Having sponsors and working I the industry I get asked the question all the time. You make a good point and one I try and make to people. You need to decide if the sponsorship is worth it. A lot of times it's much easier to just buy the part instead of deal with the obligations of sponsorship. 

I have dome this quite a bit with good success and thought I could be of help to others.

I was going to go in on this but Aug hit most of the points I was going to make.  Thanks for the post, hopefully it is helpful to some people who are into that type of thing.

Trust me I know that a lot of people are not into building cars for sponsors, if fact neither am I. I build cars because I love them, all types from imports to muscle cars and hot rods. I like putting my own touch on something, making it different than the guy's next to me. 

In doing that I have been lucky that sponsors like what I do and the fact that I know how to conduct myself in a professional manner and not just want "free stuff".

If done right you can still build a nice clean ride your own way and still get sponsors to help you along the way. So in that fact I don't consider my self a "sell out". 

Evidence to that is that I have a full Air Runner Suspension sitting in my garage ready to install thanks to my work and methods.

I am used to being lit up on forums, it's been happening to me for over a decade now and you guys are nice compared to most of the people on the BMW boards.

I have to sit through American Idol with my wife and Simon said something that I really liked the other night. 

"There are a lot of people that are going to love that, genuinely theres going to be a lot of people that are going to hate it. That to me is actually quite a good place to be rather than being indifferent and boring." 

In hindsight this was probably not the right venue for this information but I thought it might interest someone.

I just posted the last part which has the info on asking and how to do it. This not about what a tool I am or how to build your car. This is for the people who already know that I am a tool and how to build their cars. 

It's on how to talk to, approach and secure sponsors. Also what to do once you have one. 

A few of the main points are, do you really want to be sponsored. There is a lot that comes with it, not just getting stuff for free.

How do you approach the company, do you just hand them a proposal at the show or what?

What should your proposal look like anyway?
