Data Systems Controller VS Coilovers

Sup everyone?
 
New guy here with a question.
I've been thinking about doing a vip style car for a while, most likely an older LS400.
Anyways, I'm trying to decide wether to just get a data systems suspension controller or go for coilovers.
Cheapest controller is about $600 or so all together, and being able to control the suspension with a touch of a button would be nice with the roads around here. But used coilovers could be picked up for a lot less.
 
What I'm really wondering though is with a data system, what's the ride like and is it worth the price?

With stock bags and a controller is the ride comfortable?

Subscribed...never heard of this before. I found a website but couldn't find much information on it.

First heard about it when I was looking around at airride kits.
You don't get super fast FBSS you get with a full kit but it's a lot cheaper.

So.. anymore input?

Stock air with a controller is a reallly bad ride. Soft, marshmallowlike and almost undriveable when you get to a vip-approved height.
On top of that you are very likely to cause the bags to fail within 6 months because they arent designed to handle going down low like that. If not the bags, the shocks will die from bottoming out all the time due to low pressures.

The only benefit is price. But not the way you think it is. A secondhand controller can be bought for $100 of yahoo auctions (thats all you need, really, no point spending $600 on the latest fancy featured one with all the problems i listed above)
 
I have had 2 factory aired cars with controllers, and the unpredictable, oversoft ride used to get on my nerves all the time.
 
The day i upgraded to coilovers was like an awakening. Suddenly i could drive with confidence knowing EXACTLY what height my car was, even around corners. Sure i lost a few places i could go before (shopping centres, steep carparks etc) but the peace of mind is worth the extra walk to the shops!!

I've also been thinking about doing a vip style ES300/Windom, seems like nobody really likes the car though..

Well they arent really part of the Japanese vip scene, so there isnt as much aftermarket support for them. The 'glorified camry' image would get to me personally, but its up to you!

Although they aren't really part of the vip scene, I've seen some pretty nice windoms.
Take GATO's for example, there is even an autocuture kit for the windom which looks pretty nice.
 
Who knows though, I'm still not 100% on what I want to do yet.
LS400 most likely.. But I've also been thinking about a Q45, but I'm having a hard time finding one in good shape, and most are '91's with the ugly front end.
