3-pcs wheel bolts (some call them rivets)

ok so are most three piece wheels put together with similar bolts? so for instance can you use the same ones for a bbs as you could a fabulous or leon hardiritt or are they manufacturer specific? if so where could your find colored (anodized) bolts? thanks.

but im sure it works the same for all wheels.
 
I have all original oz bolts but did happen to run about 5 generic bolts once while waiting for more oz bolts to come in (due to oxidation from someone not knowing how to torque them correctly) they worked fine btw.
 
I have yet to find bare metal bolts, so therefore you have to get them striped and take them to a anodization place that offers colors.
I found a place that does most all colors (irving metal finishers in irving tx)
 
another thing I ran into once is recoating them in a diffrent color. sometimes if the coat is too heavy the actual tool wont fit the bolt. in this case you can take the tool and have a machine shop make you one that fits your new coated bolts or simply sandblast your excisting one by machine shop.

different manufacturers use different size bolts. you should replace them with the same size.
 
and i didn't think about this when me and gio were talking about anodizing bolts, but anodizing is usually done on aluminum while the bolts are steel. i googled it and apparently it can be done on stainless as well (easy to find) but not sure how common stainless anodizers are.

the 6061 and 7075 alluminums will capture the color of the anodization better...
 
when you get into 2024 there is more copper in the alluminum so therefore you have the chance of it turning black.
 
I say you have them custom painted.

the problem with paint is you have to torque the bolts. i'd say it's more than likely that at least some of them get messed up.

I have owned many 3-pc wheels, and the bolts and size of them are all different. 

Work bolts are different than say, Rays bolts, or AME bolts. 

If you have a bolt in your hand, I'd say go to Fastenal and see if they can match the thread pitch and length, in perhaps another material if you want something more "custom", but i'll warn you that replacing 30-40 bolts/nuts per wheel gets expensive fast. You can easily spend $300-500 on just hardware alone.

I went to a local bolts store to find a nut/bolt combo to replace a missing Weds bolt.   They had a similar head, but it just doesn't sit the same in the hole.  a lot of places will powder coat bolts now but there is a chance of chipping when you are torquing them down.

Also, the new bolts were like 2x as heavy each.  multiple that by about 60.  not to mention the nuts didn't look right in the back. they were the cap design and you can see them through the spokes.  I am going to hunt for some.  I'll let you know what I find...

I may venture into taking my Rapiers apart and wanted to hear options.  Reccomended Torque?

i think its somewhere around 27 ft lbs... someone correct me if i'm wrong.
