Firearms thread!
Chat, brag, show off, whatever you want, as long as it is about guns!
I'm about to go fire off my new Glock 30 (45acp w00t!) tomorrow at the range.
I'm also going to take my Ruger MKIII 22/45, my Marlin 795, Winchester 190, although those are all .22 caliber rifles (mk3 is a handgun)
Still need to get my Mossy 500, still debating on a HD or combo (same price) shotgun.
If I get the combo, I can go shoot skeet (lawl) or trap, or actually hunt birds, yet still have a shortened HD gun.
I'm also getting into reloading...as 45acp is EXPENSIVE compared to handgun rounds, and I have a .257 Roberts deer hunting (my grandfathers, I've only eaten deer, never hunted it, yet.) rifle that ammo is hard to find, and expensive when found, and want to be able to reload that as well.
I'm looking at getting a Lee Pro1000 press, it's a progressive press, meaning I can deprime/size/prime/charge/seat/crimp multiple rounds at one time. Everyone that I've talked to says that if you can, reload. Saving money, making accurate match grade rounds, and another side hobby, let alone DIY when you can't find the ammo, are just a few things that happen when you get into it.
So yeah...have at it VSC!

Nice! I use to have the super soaker50. I miss when water guns looked real. I had a Mac10 with clips that was electric, a pump action shot gun with a clip that shot what would be like a shower like buck shot < that one was awesome. one of my faves was a m16 with various clips, they had little water plugs to plug the hole so the water never came out when it wasn't loaded. What happened?? where did the awesome berretta water guns go.. toys r us took them all off the shelf cause i painted them all black ran around my neighborhood probably (laughs)

Glocks are Glocks, SA is SA, whatever floats your boat. I chose Glock because I like the grip angle, it just felt 'right'.
It is always Glock vs SA vs Sig. (For polymer guns at least.) Whoever has what likes it best, unless you have all 3.
Wait til people start telling you to just get a 1911, because plastic guns can break! Oh...and they come in 9mm too, way to confuse people when you have a 1911 that shoots 9mm lol!
If you are sticking with 9mm (I would cheaper to shoot/reload) then go with Glock, but that is just my opinion. They built their guns around 9mm, and everything else is just to offer guns in different calibers.
26/19/17 all day!
I want to trade my glock for a 26/19...bleh.
My collection is just that, it was collected over time, some are my pops/grandpa's guns. Going to war? Nah...just stockin' up on items we might not be able to buy in the future here in good ole' CA. I guess beaches and snow within a few hours of each other come with a price eh?
James... this is VIP to the max! I mean come on, every gangster has a gun, right? LOL. :pat: Car is on hold until I fix the front end suspension, doing a complete overhaul, something everybody with a 2GS should do!

Idk about tacticool...that's just the latest phase in the gun scene...you can mod them as much as any other pistol. The Smith and Wesson MP series comes with a picatinny rail if that's your thing.
On a pistol though, much other than good sights, flash light, or laser is not really needed.
Practice and 'training' ( defensive pistol, ccw training) will pay off way more than cool accessories.
Don't forget your pistol bayonet! You need that for sure! Lawl

I'm looking for a good condition FN Five-Seven. IOM if I could. Last week I sold my S&W 686-4 prelock and a few months back my Hybrid Colt/SA stainless 1911. Just sold my Berreta 92FS to a friend but yet to have collected funds...ugh. Also sold my WASR-10. Now down to just 2 ARs, Seecamp 32, HK40c, S&W500, Glock23, Kahr40, Sig229, Remington 700PSS, 10/22, Rem870, SA M1A and I might be forgetting something... and I haven't gone shooting since its so expensive to buy ammo. However I buy ammo still whenever I see a deal locally.
Calguns.net is your friend.
I'm looking for a used FN Five-Seven for around $800-900 if anyone knows anyone selling please let me know. Yes that is the type of ammo that gun shoots in the picture..

Nice! I've wanted a 57 for a while, but cost of ammo is already outrageous for the .45. It's a cool looking gun, too bad we don't get to use the proper mags for it.
Boosty, PG shotguns are no good for beginners. Also, for Mossbergs, they have tang safeties, and from what I've read/been told, that's not good for a pistol grip and an inexperienced shooter, especially in a HD situation. I say go for a regular old 500 from Big5 with a butt stock for HD if you want one. Or go with the combo, and be able to shoot trap/skeet as well as have a HD gun.
And yes, anybody from California that has an interest in firearms, GO to calguns.net and READ! You will learn so much from them about what is legal/correct you'd be surprised how much FUD gets spread.

Tang safety is on the top of the receiver, rather than the typical right/left handed safety. They call it "ambidextrous." I wanted to get a mossy, with a speedfeed pistolgrip buttstock, for a HD gun, and was told that this is not good, for you either (dangerously) leave the gun loaded with the safety off, or if you are 'clearing' your house for some reason with the safety on, and have to act, you have to take your firing hand off the PG to disable the safety, thus resulting in either dying or the BG getting away. With a regular rifle buttstock, your thumb is wrapped around the area where the safety will be, and you just flick it off, keeping your finger on the trigger and ready to go. Yes, this is ultimate 'mall ninja tacticool' info, but in reality, while you will probably never have to use your shotgun in a HD situation ( that's why I recommend the combo package from Big 5, so you can use it out at a range for other things like trap/skeet/hunting rather than just blowing stuff up (which is awesome)) it is a good thing to know.

cao. you ever actually handle and engage/disengage a safety on a pistol grip mossberg 500 series? I wouldn't consider it any more difficult then the push button on a remington 870 down by the trigger. yeah it's a slightly different motion with your thumb (no homo) but you don't have to take your hand off the grip or your other hand off the forend at all to hit the safety.
u don't wanna be talking people out of a reliable and affordable shotty for home defense for a reason like that when it's not really the case. go test one out, you'll see what I'm saying. unless you have mini t-rex hands like the guy on the burger king commercial, you'll be fine lol.

I'm just talking people out of a PG shotgun, not the Mossy, due to the location of the safety.
An 870 with a PG is better than a Mossy with the PG in regards to the safety, as you don't have to move your hand as much, you just press the safety, and pop your finger back on the noisemaker. You don't have to 'maneuver' your hand to depress the safety like you would with a PG mossberg.
Now if you have a regular rifle buttstock, you'd be better off with the tang safety, as your thumb is about where the safety is to flick it off, and your finger stays on the trigger.
I've fondled them and realized what the guy was telling me in person, and I see what he was talking about.
Besides, in an HD situation, I'd not want to be hip firing a PG shotgun, precision is where it counts, and a rifle stock is much better to use anyway...

Kind of...more like a high powered centerfire 17hmR/2...forgot which one. Those bullets aren't as big as they look. Just like .223/5.56 isn't as big as it looks in pictures.
TLontheDL, I've been shooting the 30 more, and going to keep it. It doesn't kick much harder than my .22 pistol, atleast to me. Been doing a lot of dryfiring to get used to the gun, and I feel a lot better with it.
Plus, my .22 will hold me over on getting a bigger caliber to shoot a lot. Take that out, shoot it all day, shoot the glock a bit, and be done for the day.
Hopefully this weekend my bro and I will get out to shoot the .257 Roberts, my pop's went to sheels in Reno and found some ammo on the shelves for it.

I'm on calguns, with the same s/n but I'm more a lurker, just browse a few threads here and there and the classifieds. When I picked it up it was a little under 2k. Yea the HK's now will run you a lot. Coldwarshooters used to have the CA-94's but they don't have it anymore. They may be releasing a new version, I haven't checked since last year.

lol actual hk's are about 15k+ depend on which particular model and full auto is a nfa class III item. so you gotta throw a couple hundred on top for the tax stamp and transfer plus have a trust or corporation set up to take liability for the item.
def. not a cali item.

Maybe it just had stamped HK parts, like an AK flat or something. It still sold for almost 3k? Something like that. Maybe it was built off an HK receiver, but with semi parts or something. There is a guy on CalGuns who has a lot of HK guns, he likes to show them off.

i think the only way in california to own nfa items is to have the sheriff or whatever highest law enforcement official sign off on it. might be a large contributing member to his sheriffs campaign fund. jussayin.

Like anywhere you need to submit an application to the ATF for a Class III license and then pay the tax stamp for EACH NFA item. Like if you have 2 supressors you need to pay taxes on each and keep the paper work with them. The only way I can think of getting one in Cali is if you're a FFL dealer with a dangerous weapons permit for the business through the DOJ.
BTW I just recently picked up a Walther TPH 25, Beretta 950BS, Kimber Custom II, Les Baer Premier II, Remington 870, Sig 556 SWAT, M1A SOCOM 16, Sig Mosquito, S&W 500mag and a FN 5.7(Finally). Also I'm reloading now and got a Hornady LNL with case feeder setup to make 7.62x51, 7.62x39, 5.56, 45acp, 40s&w and 500mag. I already messed up my Sig with a double charge.. but I repaired it. I got some cuts on my lip and the gun blew out a mag and f'ed up the grips. All fixed now.

actually in texas you don't need a class III license unless you're a dealer. in most other, non california states like texas, you can transfer it to an entity such as a corporation or a trust in which you are the trustee. the only really hard part is waiting on ATF approval, which like everywhere else, is subject to a background check and however long the particular ATF agent in your region likes to take, which typically in texas is around 6 months.
on the class III/suppressor forums the only thing i've been able to read about california is that all class III items can be signed off by the highest elected law enforcement office or something to that effect. most people aren't willing to spend the money necessary to become a dealer, the licensing alone is in the tens of thousands.
the application and tax stamp per item is given, that's a federal issue, not a state one. i really want to get my trust set up, but there are only two lawyers here in houston and they're both charging around 800, and i only really want one suppressor and an SBS. maybe in the future... i was going to earlier this year, but being in school, i really couldn't justify spending so much cash on a trust + suppresser + tax stamp.

i could not believe how much a suppressor is, the suppressor for my mp5 is almost half the weapon, in the state of oregon its a 275.00 fed tax stamp + price of weapon or suppressor and a 30 day minimum wait. you go to any class 3 dealer file the paper work then 30 days if FBI approves you pick up your toy,

the application and tax stamp per item is given, that's a federal issue, not a state one. i really want to get my trust set up, but there are only two lawyers here in houston and they're both charging around 800, and i only really want one suppressor and an SBS. maybe in the future... i was going to earlier this year, but being in school, i really couldn't justify spending so much cash on a trust + suppresser + tax stamp.
oh and in the state of california it is nearly impossible to be granted a tax stamp or a ccw, any other other state is possible but also the state of california does not recognize any CCW permits other then licensed and badged law enforcement and supreme court officials... on the other hand you can legaly have a hip holser and weapon exposed with your ammo on the other side gun has to be visible with no magazine, so when you draw its a 4 step process, grab gun, load amo, pull slide,fire.... i am glad i do not have to deal with state bylaws when it comes to weapons.. i can carry in any public, private, and in an airport on a plane only if i am working with us marshalls

What do you mean CA doesn't recognize CCW permits?
And OC is a pretty dangerous thing to be doing...especially now that it has really come under fire...sure pressing your rights to carry is great and can help...but it's REALLY sticking your foot over the line if you are in any way illegal... (i.e. school zone)

Oh. Yeah CA is stupid about that. CGF just busted Sac county's balls about it though, and got them to accept 'self defense' as good cause and get rid of the stupid 1 year residency BS IIRC. It's on Calguns.net if you want to read about it in their forum. They are really making strides as far as personal protection, hopefully, once they get all of the counties to be shall issue ( good luck) then they'll push for the state to be a shall issue state, and we'd end up just applying and receiving it. All I need to do here to get my CCW is fill out the application, take a CCW class/qualification, then submit the app. Apparently an investigator calls/sets up an interview either through the phone or meets with you in person, and if that interview 'goes well' you'll get approved for your CCW. No restrictions, on anybody's CCW so far that I've read about.
I still think that EVERY state should let you carry. If you can legally purchase a gun, and you take a qualification class and pass, you should just be able to apply and receive.

that's one of the big things that irks me about cali gun laws. i really understand nfa items really are not necessary, but at least allow your citizens to protect themselves. what's that saying? outlaw firearms, and only outlaws will have them.

I have a CCW in orange county... and it was through Hutchens. It is restricted but I can carry most of the time regardless.

Anybody know of a decent rear iron (preferrably not a BUS) for a flat top M4gery with a F marked front sight post?

Ordered a LMT rear sight today (non-carry handle) Hopefully it will justify the price. Almost returned it and got a Colt carry handle A2 rear sight but then the guy said it was off a Colt rifle and not marked as Colt in any way. Talked to the GF and she said " you might as well get the thing you know is legit, even if it'll cost you more, rather than buying something that might be a knockoff " I'm glad she justified the expense! :)

Since you are in Texas try and get a Larue made rifle. Considered one of the best.. I don't like them because they hate californians and refused many potential buyers but their products are very good. Recently though I heard they opened up on selling to us because I'm sure the economy is affecting them too.

You can't go wrong with LMT, Noveske, Rock River etc...
