thinking of selling my mazda 929 / sentia
Debating whether to sell or not.
Could use some input on how much I should sell to see if its worth it and make a decision.
Here are some details:
Thinking of selling "AS IS" / whole Parts Car.
Year: 1994
Make: Mazda
Model: 929/ Sentia
Miles: 227K
Pros:
- Engine sounds strong and idles smooth. Been driving it to work. 5 days a week for years. 20min each way. Still Driving it. So it does run well enough to use.
- Sunroof is actually a solar panel that either charges the batter or runs a fan on hot days while the car is parked.
- Including: 6 gallon air tank and compressor mounted in the trunk.. plus other misc air ride parts. (note, car is back on coils. bags were blown and discarded)
- Including: Set of Jic SF-1s Coilovers and Adj Tool. Very rare in the US. Maybe 1 of 2 sets sold in the US.
- Including: Custom Kit. Don't know the original make. Maybe Mythos, but has been chopped up and modified.
- Including: Replacement/ extra Windows Drivers Side and Passengers side.
- Including: Big Disk Rotors (not on the car). They were mustang cobra rotors with the centers machined for the 929. was going to use it for a big brake swap. unfinished project
- Including: 4 caliper rotors from an RX7.. was going to use it for a big brake swap.. unfinished project
- Including: speakers. rear = (2) Titanium dome tweeters, (2) 6.5, (1) 10 sub (the 10 is blown tho), front= (2) dash tweeters and (2) mid-bass door speakers
- Including: OEM Mazda Shop Manuals.
Cons:
- Due to age and high miles, performance is maybe 10% less than what it used to be in its younger years. If you are good with engines maybe you can tweak it back to its younger years.
- Highly recommend that the buyer is familiar with working on cars, engines, suspension, electrical.. this car was a project car so it has been modified and unfinished.. plus it is old.. it will require unique maintenance that will confuse Pepboys if you bring it in to them for service.. if you mod cars this is nothing new..
- Transmission: Was rebuilt by Amaco back in 2005 but never been the same since. all gears shift and hold well except that the 1-2 shift is late or holds in 1st slightly longer then it should. If it could shift just a little bit earlier it would be right on. All gears hold well after they shift in gear.
- JIC shocks are squeaky. Common with these shocks, but thought I'd point it out because it is there. Also the OE JIC springs were not sized right for this heavy car. They came with (i think) 8kg and 7kg springs. This car needs more like f 16 / r 14 kg. So the coils are preloaded like crazy with spacers. Coils are standard 2.5".
- Front sway bar squeaks. Just needs a lube/grease'n on the polyurethane bushings. Just a pain to remove the sway bar so I have been avoiding it.
- There are some loose fuses in the fuse box. They work now, but in the past had to put foil on some of them to make sure the fuses hold in place and connect. One main one was the fuse for the brake lights. One time it lost connection and I couldn't get out of park to put in drive. The stick was locked due to the brake fuse being out. Usually you press the brake pedal and it will unlock the shifter and allow you to move the Stick from park to drive, etc.. I reset the Fuse and now it is good. Haven't had that issue for years. But still wanted to point it out.
- Tail pipe is rusted. could use a replacement.
- No radio. It was yanked out. Also the radio holding place has been modified so it might take some tweaking to get a standard radio back in there.
- Tire blew on the interstate and took out part of the driver's side bumper and caused a dent on the rear panel. Looks like Jaws chomped on the bumper.
- Basic interior aging. ex.. liner, cloth, column, etc is sagging.
- Several interior parts need to be put back or screwed down. just haven't had time to play with'em. unfinished project car
- Driver's side and Passenger's side mirrors need to be repaired and repainted. The Passenger side has a cracked mirror.
- AC has a slow leak. I can refill it with a can of that AC stuff from walmart and it would last about 4-5 months.
- Car runs rich at idle. Also, because it runs rich, a white puff of smoke builds up if you idle for a minute and then go. The white smoke thing only seems to happen on warm days. I know the white smoke is not coolant because you can definitely smell it as gassy fumes. Plus, the coolant level hasn't dropped in years.
- Car is due for SMOG in April and will need to be SMOG'd by the buyer (if required in the buyer's state). I'm guessing the rich fuel issue would need to be resolved first before it will pass.

HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT FOR THE JICS! and where have u been?
ive got alot of questions foe you! Your car has alot of the issues i had, the 929 is a car that will take some time and money to build in the US. Its not expensive, its just hard to get stuff especially the stuff we really need. But im really very interested in the JIC ive ben trying to trackdown a set for awhile. The other guy that has a set went MIA, and he stays in Atlanta..but i cant get in contact with him.
I am interested in the brake project you had going on aswell!

LOL, sup fellas.. kids is where i've been.. one after the other. they've been eating up all my free time.. its worth it tho..
JITb.. at this time i'd like to keep the JICs with the car in case it doesn't sell and i end up keep'n it... this way all the parts will still be together if i keep it.. as ya'll know custom parts are hard to come by..
as for the brakes.. the are not on the car and in a box somewhere so that might be something. i'll have to look for the stuff and take some pics so you can see if its really worth it or not.
so, (from a buyers' standpoint) and being familar with the 929, what do you guyz think its worth

to me as is with the damage, and the problems. i think 2500$ would be a good amount for it in my eyes. But also it would be alot easier to sell in stock form compared to your modified version. The 929 isnt a very popular car to modify in the US. And most people take the lexus/nissan route. Thats not because i want your parts...lol its honesty!
but if u do decide to sell the Jics, i can throw in a stock set of struts/springs :). Imagine how many diapers you can buy when u sell them to me! =)
but id like to see more pics of the car, the brake project, and the rest of the kit etc.
And what was the deal with the air kit? what kind was it? is it fixable?

2.5K... not a bad range to consider..
the air ride was UAS over the JICs.. the only thing left is the tank, the air pump, air lines, bunch of fittings and a few old electric valves.. tank and pump are still mounted in the trunk. it is fixable but like anything, time and $$ is the factor... as it stands, it mainly needs the 4 air strut bags and the metal tube mounts... the mounts are important.. they keep the bags straight and from chafing on the inside.. UAS has it all and can make the mounts.. i would have to say the UAS setup was the best combo out of everything i tried.

i cut about 3 coils all together. But i cut 2 at first all around. And than i cut another 1 in the rear. But i think 2 is the limit in the rear for the stock struts. as wel all know they arent worth a dam in the first place...
you have a picture of the teins? how do they ride?

the pic is on the other thread that i made they ride really nice ofcourse stiffer than stock and feels alot better than stock imo, but the pic on that thread was before i cut the teins. i gotta take new pics.
