10k to work with

hey guys!  ive been looking everywhere to find a true platform car for about 10k or less, ive found many ls400, 430 ect.  And they all look great but there pushing 195 200k miles, and thats no good ha.  Is there anyplace u know to look or true platform vehicles i can find for 10k that are so bad in mileage, im talking like 50-100k id be ok with.  Thanks guys.

craigslist (for sale by owner) is the place to find the best deals imo, but your price/milage requirments will make it tough. 150k milage is generally where i cap off, and can be considered low milage depending on year. when talking ls it's really nothing, and if you catch a well maintained one (dealer perferred, ask for records) it can avoid some expensive maintenance around the 100k mark.

you might want to find something a little older like a 95-97 LS with about 130K miles for $5k and put another $5K into it...

yea thats what i was thinking about doing, because i live my life on craigslist ha, and i just recently found a 91 ls for 4,9 that has 110k and its already stanced and got air ride and shit, so i figure buy that and swap the engine and fix a few interior problems.  I figure that would be my best route to go huh?

I would think, plus you could swap for a 2jz.:biggthumpup:

you don't need to sweat a 100k+ 1uz unless it hasn't been maintained. they're good for 300k.

thats really reasurring guys thanks! i was looking at ls engine swaps and it was runnin 4k without maint. work.  Im extremely interested in this 91 that i found, i might contact the guy tonight, whats cool is it already has a stance and rims, all i would need to do is just fix up the interior and get a paint job on it. Yea man the one I'm looking at right now is a 95 ls400, its got about 185 for 10'.  It already has quit a bit done to it already in terms of VIP style.  I'm curious if u guys think thatd be a good idea and something to look into,  I'm really considering this LS.  Thanks.

that's alot for the milage/age, but it will come down to the quantity/quality of mods and condition.

Yea thats a lot of miles for 10 grand modded or not, gotta figure its a 15 year old car for 10 grand, you can get a 350z for that price. I would just take my time and find a good deal on a low mileage one cause they are out there.

I've found many LS400 and Q45 on CL for under $6500...but thats also in KY and IN, not CA...I know there are a few 2nd gen GS300/400 on clublexus with rebuilt titles for around $5500 if you want to go that route.

He has a list of what he has on his ride, but I'm on my blackberry, so when I get back to my barracks ill post up what he has so yall can help me decide.  Ghost where in indy are u from man? Before moving to cal for the military I lived in carmel indiana seriously 15 minutes from downtown indy.

Just for reference, last year I bought my '00 LS400 with 65k miles for $10k. be patient, you'll find the right one.

i would just buy a stock car and add your own mods...you'll prolly get new rims and redo your suspension eventually anyways...

I agree with waiting to find the right one. You'll be much happier with it in the end. Don't worry about getting something that's done up. Get something you like first, even if it means you can't put wheels and suspension on it right away. Get the car you like, then slowly save up for wheels and suspension afterward if you have to. It'll give you time to really think about what you want to do to it. If you rush in too quick, it might not be what you really want when you think about it later. Selling used/old parts to buy new ones is more trouble then saving for what you really want.

Not to take away from any of our VSC members, but this just went on the selling block (not a "platform" but car-has-got-presence-on-the-road)
