Is it possible??

Hi there guys. Here's the whole story. Some of you guys know my car and most don't, I own a 99 LS400. I've installed airrunner on the car and got some 20's on it also. Now it was time for me to do some fender work to get them to fit underneath and get ready for my next pair of rims. The sizes of the current rims are 20x8.5 +39 all around. I know the sizes are WEAK but those rims were intended for my galant. I'll get some way lower offset rims later. But here's the deal. I'm taking my car in to get my fenders rolled/pulled/painted and I wanted them to pull my fenders out about half an inch in the rear and same for the fronts. Since the rims have +39 offset, I decided to buy 30mm hubcentricals to make it +9 for the offset all around. So I had the shop pull the fenders and today I went back to check up on the car and they pulled it out about 1/2 inch in the rear without rolling the inner lip. So now my rear rims fit underneath the fender. But I wanted them to flatten the inner lip so that I could fit a bigger rim in the rear. I told the owner that but somehow the guy working on my car didn't quite understand what he meant. So now they are going to pull my fender out more but here's the question I have to ask you guys. Since I'm going to get bigger rims in the future and the sizes are going to be in the range of 20x9 +0 - +10 in the front and 20x10 +0 - +10 in the rears. So I told the owner that the next set of rims I want is going to be an inch wider in the rear and he tells the guy working on my car to make the fender stick out another inch and a half from where it sits now in the rear and pull the front out half an inch with the inner lips rolled flat. My question is " Is it possible to pul the fenders out that much in the rear without seperating the body metal? Sounds like a pretty intense pull to me but he sounded confident. BTW, this shop does a lot of custom work on hot rods and is well known. I was referred to them through a auto body teacher at my college. Let me know what you guys think. I'll have pictures for you guys when the work is done...

I'm not sure how far you can pull the fenders before doing some damage to the panels, but if they didn't even understand a simple "roll the fenders," I'm not so sure if I'd trust the shop.

well first of all, you're a really bad story teller. i'm having trouble comprehending what exactly happened as far as measurments. preemptive body work is never a good idea, you really need to have your wheels and suspension dialed in to get it perfect.

but that's already done so oh well... here's what you need to know: a 20x10 +10 will be 18mm more agressive than your current wheels on spacers. 0 offset will be 28 (1"). now if your wheel is already tucked inside the fender there is no way they can pull another inch and a half and be flush. sounds like they're probably already past where they should be. so the question isn't "can it be done" it's "what really needs to be done here".

my suggestion, short of actually buying the wheels and fitting them, is to figure out exactly what wheel you want, what sizes it comes in, how much more aggressive it's going to be than your current wheels, and get an exact number (i.e. i want it pulled x mm from where this wheel sits right now).

I know I suck at telling stories. lol But Those are the sizes that I want on my car and the wheels I want do come in those sizes!! =) I just hope that if they do pull out the fender, that they don't seperate the body panels and if they do, it's not my falut and they would have to fix it. I might just have to talk to them one more time to figure things out...

Dont do any more work to the car!

Get the wheels FIRST. Put them on, and then decide how much (if at all you need to pull the guards. From what i have seen, 10" wide +10 offset should have been able to fit on stock fenders if they are rolled flat and cambered appropriately

Too late you guys. I called the shop today and they told me they pulled it out already but they only went a inch and a half. So I'm gonna head out to check it out after I get off of school tomorrow. I'll take some cell phone pictures and I'll share with you guys. Hoping it turned out ok. * crossing fingers*

well on the plus side as long as it looks good all you have to do is go more aggressive.

Most likely, both sides will not be equal without the wheels and suspension dialed in to base the pull off of. Hopefully it came out nice enough

Ok here's a shot of the flared fender. I couldn't get a good shot but the fenders turned out great!! The arcs were nice and they even made a line so it'll look like it was from factory. Here you go.

looks good but nothing short of a negative offset 10.5 or maybe a low positive 11 will even come close to making that flush :(

10 +10 will EASILY clear the stock fenders with a roll.

Yep, you may end up needing some 1" spacers to make those wheels look flush. But on the plus-side, it does look like they did a great job on the fenders!

Fenders look great. Can't wait to see the wheels that fill those out.

I can't wait till my car back so I can calculate and get some help from you wheel masters on the size and offsets. But I was thinking maybe 20x9 +0 in the front and 20x10 +0 in the rear. Or should I go with a inch wider in the front and rear? I don't want camber the wheels so much but I do want some nice lip size in the front and the rear. Any help would be great!! Also, thanks for the compliments you guys!!
