I was thinking this: [IMG]http://i43.tinypic.com/1rzp5e.png[/IMG] instead of buyin a big in-car PC?? yay nay? also has to be hooked up to a sound system.. what do you guys think would it work? its goin in the headunit console area btw.

If it's like the touch it needs wifi and its hard to get wifi while moving you will need an antenna. Anyways I say try it!
they have a 3g model out now also.

i bet you when apple see all these people putting a ipad in thier car, they gonna come out without something similar but would fit in your car dash like a double din.

I don't really think apple cares if people start jamming ipads into car dashboards. lol. they aren't gonna engineer something of a different scale just to install in a car. they got enough to worry about for the rest of the year tryin to make their 4g iPhone seem interesting again when they launch it now that the whole planet has already seen it disected on the internets.
meh. not sure where you got "big carpc" from. you can build one that will fit better, integrate better, and do more (for less money if you shop around). not a fan of laptop/netbook/pc retros, they just seem half a** to me.
Pretty good idea with the versatility of the Ipad, just watch where you park your ride...
I almost bought the Carpc but when I found out I would have to change out the stock speakers and amp and sub ... kinda avoided it all together.. The Ipad looks pretty cool but I would have it for yourself and make a mount for the car but wouldnt looks great Imo...
no need to change the speakers, you just need an amp. if your car has an oem external amp(s) (like nakamichi/bose/etc) you could even wire it in if you knew what you were doing.
Car pc's yo have to get motherboads to install along with your screen. ( by this i mean takin up more room in the trunk along with all your subs and amps.) Ipad is all in one. did a little test fit on a friends car looked hella weird. unless we make a cover or something for it. pretty much its like if you put your laptop screen in the dash and leave it there. (ok maybe not as big but jsut to give you guys an idea) we are gonna have to do fiberglass work to make it sit like it came with the car and easy removal. neat Idea from what I saw in the vids but not much aftermakert stuff for the Ipad to really do a straight foward swap like if it was double din or something, been talkin to an audio shop to make connectors and what not. ..

What about a good old fashioned mac mini and a touch screen? You can get them for ~$100. Ipad sticking out of the dash looks like A) like "Bash my window and steal me!!", and B) like you took a screen mount from a sports bar and stuck it on your dash.
