02 engine smoke oh no

Yeah.. who has a F50 with engine smoke on start up? Mine does it! And only after sitting over night if i drive somewhere turn it off leave it off for a few hours i hardly see any.. but in the morning i get a big poof of it, and none on hard acceleration. I have been having this problem since last year. I talked to the Dealer like many have said its common.. I replied as such:

W T F mate? Why, why would nissan build such a shitty engine? That means nothing is tight until its warmed up. Granted it is suppose to be like that, but that tolerance is uncalled for. It's not a Helicopter where if it leaks fuel its safe to fly.. The service writer kept butting in and i kept shutting him down with well it consumes oil so that makes it a oil consumption motor like the problomatic M45 in 03.. it is the same engine different year.  350z motors were all oil consumers around this time.. so what the hell happened?? No answer other than he said it is suppose to do this.. this is absolute shit and has made me hate nissan for a very long time. EVEN TITANS DO now.. 

any who, who has this problem? and if so what mileage? Who knows, maybe Nissan techs aren't using the right booty thick oilicious.

i have that issue....  i think its normal.   car runs good.

OH yeah, for sure! just dumb, especially with full open pipe no muffler to trap the oil so its worse. What oil you running on yours?

actually I don't seem to have that problem, I'm at about 94k in mileage

i have light blue smoke but only on startup as mentioned. nothing major but when i first got the car it bugged me. i did notice that after i switched to amsoil the amount of smoke went down noticeably. bought the car at around 14k 4 years ago and drove it to 55k where it is today.

the 'techs' at infiniti seem to say that everything on my car is "normal" :shrug: 

put it this way, i wouldnt buy another one unless it was a steal of a deal. wouldnt even consider buying a brand new infiniti/nissan.

BLUE SMOKE- Caused by blow-by allowing crankcase oil in the combustion chamber due to bad rings, valve seals or other faulty components.

these engines are just known to burn oil.   I just did a smog check a couple months ago and ALL the readings were way below average.    I just use regular oil whatever ezlube uses...which I think is Castrol GTX 10-30.   I do an interval of 3500miles since I do alot of highway driving but book says every 3750 anyways.   Sometimes I admit I do go over but i don't think its going to be that harmful to go over alittle.

Well unfortunately you can count on it meaning you'll have to get your wallet ready for a workout. Blue smoke could indicate a few different things I guess. However it is my own experiences that tell me what is happening is your motor oil is leaking past your piston rings and getting into the engine cylinder and mixing with your fuel and ultimately burning along with the gas. That leakage is getting compressed with the gasoline in the combustion chamber and the burned oil makes the blue smoke. Your car probably also doesn't have as much power as it used to and is probably running rather rough too. If it isn't yet it wont be long and it will evetually cause the oil to break down loseing its viscocity and not properly lubricateing the pistons. Because what is also happening is some of the gas is leaking past those rings too in the opposite direction and mixing with the oil in your crankcase and thinning it out. When this happens the engine will overheat from excessive friction and it will seize.
They used to do ring and valve jobs to fix the problem. But that is "old school" and we now live in a disposable society and most every shop around will recommend a newly rebuilt engine. With shop rates being as much as $125 an hour, the rebuilt motor is much more cost effective. I'm sorry to be the messenger of the bad news. 

This means that you should just sell your car while you can, so that you don' t get stuck with it.

I have the same problem with the M , tho i burn oil like mad recently i have started using a oil additive along with Mutol SYN and my oil level has actually has not  moved for a few weeks ... and it runs a lot better ...

There is a "fix" on NICO for  this, it's the breather tube on the valve cover, that goes into the throttle body, it's not a big deal, it's just a small amount of oil burning with the gas. The fix is basically to install a catch-can (Jegs.com) in the hose from the valve cover to throttle body and it prevents the oil from getting into the TB.

Blue smoke is oil, if it was white, you better sell it quick or be ready to spend some cash. My 98 Q I had for 6 years, the best car I ever had. Now I have an 04 M45, and I expect it to be just as good, and if it burns a little oil, I'll gladly trade that off for the 340hp.

I have an 02 and dont have that issue.  I read somewhere that the early model 02's had that problem.

Wow good responses! yeah, no lack in power that is for damn sure! (smiles) it only does it on early morning start up or hours of sitting. like the rings need to warm up again to seal right. Just pretty dumb of infiniti to do that and have a big history of doing so. 

I am do for an oil change right now anyway so i will see what i can do. Seems to get better with new oil and doesn't start really show til 2500 miles or so. 

Totally off topic and some were wondering why waste time if you were doing the 5.6 well there is a lot of reasons.. the q45 trans does not fit on there btw... you will need a 2wd titan one maybe bell housing would work? Starter is on top the motor rather on the driver side like ours..

Same thing happens on my 02 Q45 now and then.  Sometimes it is quite bad!  Usually after sitting overnight and starting it up in the morning.

Definitely good to keep an eye on the oil level with this car.

i think we should all gang up write a statement and drive to corporate infiniti to make it a problem solved. Nissan handled all theirs why not infiniti? and its the same people!!!

i have the same issue but i also have a cloud of smoke sometimes when i make a hard stop

Yeah, totally! Cause that is totally uncalled for! I can see it as used engines get more miles.. but the old G50 engines have 240k on em and not doing it.. they need to take the blame and correct it..

But what is funnier is my car stopped doing it! two days now it hasnt done it. LOL weird
