Would you buy high quality thats not well known?
Would you buy high quality thats not well known? Like JP Fabulous DAD ect. I ask cause I have been spending a lot of time away from my projects but investing in my connections and their ability to help my business in what it will have to offer. I ask cause I am trying to set up a number of things to offer for sale. When I do, I would like to be come a official vendor. What we do now is: CNC machine and lathe work, tig welding, full on composite vacuum form and molding (carbon fiber kevlar, acrylic ect.) Make a mold from a existing part or custom and make it out of exotic materials. Plastic chroming, and fusion. To laser etching and water jet.
So my question is! If what I have to offer is high quality and unique.. would there be a market for it? Or are most of you name brand buyers regardless of what the product is. I see as we all start somewhere. Give me feedback please!

You mean the de-lining of the lens? Are yours plastic, or glass? if Plastic, make a acrylic mold from it and go from there. I would have to ask my fusion guy. Since it is a 3d box design, it will be work, but can be done.. all things can be done for price haha.

For me it depends. I like be unique. Being different. Having things others don't. Hence the jager tap machine I had in the car, the current stripper pole in the car, wanting to put swarovski crystal in the headlight housing.
For car audio stuff, I rarely go with what is mainstream because I know there are better quality and better priced products that aren't sold in numerous stores.
Your approach is a little different but personally, I like it. But when it comes to business, gotta go with what's gonna make you money so u gotta please the majority.

Thanks! Well put! I guess what I want to focus on is a close knit community. Rather than selling to the whole. Easiest example I can give, and will probably a be a bigger sold thing. Is custom chroming of plastics. Door trim, handles, mirrors, grills, emblems.. Not everyone wants just regular chrome, they may want to do black chrome like the mercedes does on some of their window trims and emblems and such.
I want the majority, but cater to customers individually to give them what they want, not what they find.

i always buy shit that people don't know about -- i'm current rocking a filson bag that'll last me the rest of my life. before that, i had a porter x rickson's bag. if you look in my closet, you wouldn't recognize half the shit in there, but trust me, it's all super high quality shit.
for me, quality (and since i'm broke, value for the money) is more important than the brand name and recognition. i buy shit for me, not for other people.

in all honesty, it just depends what it is and what it looks like. camber arms, as long as they are decent looking and will hold up to some stress i would be very willing to try them out.

a name doesn't mean much unless it's shadowed negatively. unknown is a clean slate, well known can be a liability to those trying to get on the next thing early. it will come down to what you make, how well you make it, and how you market it. can't cosign a theory, make a move.

I would definitely love to see what you're planning on making. I think if someone came up with a dope enough plan they could do very well. One thing I would really love to see is a US company making really clean, well designed, hot body kits/parts. Something that would give us an alternative to the regular Japanese companies such as JP, aimgain, ect...
Just my 2 cents

I agree, why I kind like having the f50. I have a good rare platform for making parts to cater to others. Since the market is pretty flooded right now with the norm cars. Means I wont make to much for the majority, but the things I do sell, the owners of these cars will be rocking what I sell cause its a limited offering. I really want to make my own kit for the f50. I just got some money to pick up Blitz's bumper so will see what I can come up with. Making molds from bumpers is tedious, but not impossible, and talked to someone at body kit company for assistance if I wanted to produce something under my own name.

A air freshener is in the works! Glitter gel style. To me this smell is VIP car to me. And so far the peoples reactions are good. But they are not into cars, just wanted a opinion. But it would be neat to see if it is well liked.. I want people to say this is what VIP smells like to them huh? (laughs)

I would buy high quality regardless of brand if I like it. Remember, I rocked the Stillen front lip on my Q for years, and everyone on here for the most part didn't like it, but every single one of them who then saw it in person changed their mind. The quality of it is OEM or better, even after totaling the Q, the front lip is basically undamaged, just needs new paint, yet the rest of the front end needs to be replaced.

Quality is important, but when you're running an unknown fledgling venture, clear, concise, and regular communication will make or break you in small communities.
You know, things like, "Hey man, got your money, expect your item in a week, thanks."
This seemingly small part of doing business makes a huge difference in the willingness people have to report favorably upon your products and service. Many times good communication wins out with a 10 day delivery time when compared to a five day delivery with no contact at all. Most people hate to be left hanging, and will start posting about "no response" by day four...even if they didn't pay for expedited shipping and have something coming from across the country.
The modern age of e-commerce and eBay has people expecting items to ship within minutes of ordering them, while this may not directly apply to you, a lead time is always smart to give people, as well as an acknowledgement of a transaction.
Ming @ Fizz Motorsports is a great example. If you post in his thread, he PMs you and he also lets you know that he's responded in that thread, just in case. He also sends tracking information quickly and invites further contact if you need anything at all.

nice! good input. I try to keep in contact with people as much as possible no matter what time of the night it is.. usually i am out and about so much it is impossible for me to be there for them during the day. The way i see things is everyone is a potential customer, and should be treated as such. And yes, I do get the very indecisive people, that seek help and no matter what you tell them.. they may agree and be like cool then next day still be confused (laughs) I guess it isn't as easy for them as it is me.. since what i want in my cars come more naturally and people ask how do you come up with this or that or why is it everything you do seem to go so well together.. but if someone else were to do it.. it wouldn't.
I guess this is where I combine my artistic side with cars. Cars to me is one big canvas. I stay up late or miss lots of sleep thinking about how to put something together. This can be color combination. like if i paint the car this color, would it work with this interior i want, and what would i do to change the grill and headlights.. would it all clash? Same with suspension and engine ect.
So I think for right now.. I will stick with getting things going and be public later.. but wont turn down what someone may want in the mean time

KoukiMonstar, to answer your question, I personally would.
I find myself actually think the same thing. My brother in law has been reupholstering car interiors for about 5 years and we were debating on whether or not to start making good quality, affordable, seat covers. But with D.A.D, Bellezza and other "Name brand" companies, we weren't sure how succesful it would be.

^yeah see thats the thing too.. but with those, they are super tacky in my opinion. Some times to much crystal going on. And I personally could not rock anything with the word DAD no matter what it was abbreviated for.. Who's your dad i am HAHA. Even Bride too.. But DAD has been around for a very long time as well.. but maybe I am doing it more for me.. and if someone wants what I do, then will go from there.
Where as upholstery goes... everyone needs it. It is also very tricky too.. Cause you can not use gucci material, and sell gucci pillows for it would be illegal. But if someone wanted to have pillows custom made with that material, then it will be okay.
