3D fad: here to stay?
What is all this hype about 3D nowadays? 3D movies, 3D television shows/specials, and 3D flat screens.
3D has been out since the 80s. I remember getting gllasses in cereal boxes to view at 3D images at the back of the boxes. I haven't seen E.T. in ages but I think E.T. even wore 3D glasses in the movie.
Why is 3D back in full force nowadays? I'm tired of hearing everything is in 3D and you have to pay extra for 3D movies and flatscreens that can play 3D movies/shows. Whats the big deal?

Well, 3D now is nothing like it used to be, it's truly amazing. However, I really don't need it in my house, a movie at the theater once in a while is good enough IMO. I'm pretty content to just enjoy my Toshiba 46" for a while still.

3d is older than the 80s homie!! Its been on/off for a very long time. I think its here to stay now what with the recent come up in motion sensing technology.
dont be afraid, I think were VERY close to realistic virtual reality... I would love to see sony combine theyre 3d tech with microsofts kinect motion capture, concept that and tell me its not an exciting idea. Id say another 10 years before theyre finally smart enough to work together and/or steal an element from the other to actually come out with a product :)

3d fad will ware off. once the "wow factor" of it wears off, ppl wont be spending the extra money. its like this...people used to go to theaters because it offered the better viewing experience. tv technology came up...better image quality than theaters, huge screens, and sound systems that rival the theaters. theaters sales started to decline so they needed a gimick to get people back in, something home theaters couldnt do, so they came out with 3D. now with home tvs utilizing the same technology, they will think of the next big gimmick to boost sales.

Avatar in 3D was like no movie before it.
Problem with 3D tv at home is having to wear those stinkin' glasses all the time. I don't think it will really sell well for the home just yet.

Just wait til they make 3D porn. That'll determine if it is here to stay!
Besides, with things like Nintendo making a DS that is 3D WITHOUT glasses..well those holographic images and shit from starwars, startreck, etc are all going to come to life pretty soon. I can't wait for 3D battle chess and shit like that!

I'm sure they said the same thing about colour television when it first came out. 3D TVs arent that much more than regular TVs and can be switched on and off AFAIK (2D to 3D). I am pretty sure its just the next evolution of media... Glasses or not, 3D is the future

When this first started blowing up I would be the first to say this was never going to catch on. I have always enjoyed the idea of 3d but I don't want to watch EVERYTHING in 3d. Then seeing what they are pushing out for 3d I got a little more interested. Once GT5 is released on the pstriple I think I will finally make the jump to 3d to try it out, as of right now there just isn't anything out to make me get it. In the end I think it's a fad that will flop as time goes by. The tvs are a little expensive right now and then you still have to buy these "kits" with the glasses.
