#330762Custom Emblem Coloring
So I read a DIY in VIP Style a while back and finally decided to try it out. It's not complete yet but I may finish it off later if i get bored enough.Most trunk emblems or car emblems are removable. Unfortunately I don't have pics of the removal process.
1. you'll need a small screw driver or trim removal tool.
2. use masking to tape around the emblem if you are going to be removing it from the car. this will help prevent scratching to the paint.
3. Also want to tape your tool to help prevent scratching under the emblem.
4. using your prepped tools remove the emblem
(One point: Work all around the emblem prying from different sides to loosen it up.)
Now This photo I have already removed the emblem but will Show you pretty much how it comes out.
After prying up 1 side:
Completely removed: Yes I know the damn infiniti emblem residue is still there.:shrug:
5. Mask the front of the emblem to prevent scratching.
6. Using about 800~1000 sand the back of the emblem until the paint is removed.
(Point: If using a buffer careful not to melt the plastic on the edges.
7. Once paint is cleared go ahead and wetsand with 2000~2500 this will help clean up the haziness so that when you paint the color will be rich and not cloudy.
8. I suggest using Plastix to buff and polish the back to make it nice and clear.

9. Mask the front again
(point: and make sure to get the edges of the emblem)
10. A good idea is to put a small piece of double sided tape on the masked front so the emblem will stay in place when painting.
11. Choose your color paint and spray.
(point: use a sweeping motion from right to left and back when painting.
lay on thin coats so it goes on even and doesn't build on the edges or run.)
12. Allow a minimum of 30 minutes to dry. in cold or rainy conditions the pain wont dry well so a heat gun maybe needed.
Good thing I am in AZ for this.
