Cambered Tires...

I saw this on an episode of Jay Leno's Garage and to tell you the truth, this is pretty promising for us running high camber on daily drivers.

Check it out:

http://www.cambertire.com/

Basically, a tire that's already cambered.

I guess if you are running -3.5 degs on the rear and you get a tire to match, your tire contact would be better. Kind of tired of flip-flopping new tires every 4 months or so :signdammit:

one of the patent papers says 2*. hopefully there will be a variety of angles but i wouldn't count on seeing anything ridiculous.

Wonder how high in degrees they'd go LOL

I read this first sentence and was stoked
When mounted on a vehicle with independent negatively cambered suspension research indicates that the Camber Tire enables substantially Improved Handling, Improved Tread Wear, Decreased Tread Noise, Decrease incidence of Roll-Over, and Improved Fuel Mileage due to a reduction in rolling resistance from eliminating the need for toe-in and facilitating the use of narrower tires among other benefits.

I like the part of "Improved Fuel Mileage"
Thats awesome, does kinda make sense.
I do think my ride does pretty good on gas, especially or a V8. I always here people hatin on MPG's on Q's. Guess they didn't hae their camber set to specs

Does it really help out on MPGs?

I may be wrong but the use of this tire, in vip circles, would depend on if it can be stretched right? I mean right now anyone who is running camber considering this might already have the sidewalls of their current tire stretched for better fitment. If this tire can't be stretched then I don't see how having that taller outer sidewall would help people who've already got pretty tight tolerances as far as their fitment is concerned. I'm just sayin though. I don't have any experience with tire stretches but in my head and based on pics I've seen this question came up.

A tire having a decreasing profile diameter includes an outside sidewall with a greater height than the inside
sidewall. The inner diameters of each sidewall are preferably identical. The outer diameter of the outside
sidewall is greater than the outer diameter of the inside sidewall. The cross-section of the width of the tread
has a substantially constant thickness from the inside tread diameter to the tread surface of the tire. The
depth of the tread is preferably constant across the width of the tread surface.

this wont really work for us...so if we run 40s tyres on 18" wheels, this means that with a cambered tyre we will end up with something like 30 on the inside and 45-50on the outside...that doesnt seem like a right path for us...

the whole point is to have a square contact patch which would mean the tires would wear evenly, assuming the degree of the tire matched the degree of the suspension. it would make flipping unecessary.

if you look at the drawings the tire pulls back from the outer lip by design. they actually site the additonal clearance for wider wheels as one of the pros.

that would depend on the accuracy of your estimate but it could be an issue. however, if a 30 only increased to a 40 it wouldn't be too bad aesthetically. the other issue is will sizes we run even be available.

IDK, I never did the MPG's thing before rollin like this.
But BS aside, one tank of gas lasted 2 weeks. And in those 2 weeks, I only drove from home to work. Didn't go out with the homies, didn't go outta my normal route. Anything I hit up as far as stores and stff I caught on my way home. I was shocked by week 2, I swear I had forgotten the last time I filled up.

To be real though, I don't think there's enough demand for these kinda tires. Don't seem like here's enough neg cambered cars out there for them to produce these. Its a good idea for people who'd prefer more contact to the road, there just might not be enough of em

@BoB98 the power of reading.lol all I did was look at the pics of the tires.

Between vw, honda, and rising popularity of VIP. I think demand is there for a properly marketed cambered tire if it fits as they say it does and the right sizes are available.

i always thought about this but the drag would be crazy. imagine rollin one of those on its own. it would naturally curve. so riding them straight would make them wear like crazy. now race cars i get it. but daily's, i dont think it would ever work

I think he means like the red party cups. If ya put em on their side and push em forward, they don't roll straight, it naturally turns. So with 4 of em, the two drivers side ones are gonna push ya right, and the two pass side ones will push left. Both sets pushin against eachother like that is gonna slow down the car, and wear the tires out even faster as they scrub the road.

This also defeats the whole purpose of that "idea", yes...idea. It's not even plausible to me. I see too many issues, it sounds like someone trying more to get a company to buy the "idea" so dude can profit.

I mean, look how pathetic the website is??

now what id like to see is the outers of the tires to be made thicker tread than the middle. that way we can run them a little longer before we start showing wires

Integral Camber in tires in nothing new. Many directional R-comp tires have been using this trick to get past tech inspections in club racing for years, as well as on pro-racing circuits.
