needs some hawaiian help...working on shipping a car to HI.
any one know any specifics or can refer a shipper for me. Im selling my corolla to a guy in oahu and the moneys come in. Im getting a lot of run around from the shippers ive talked to and need some help.
Its a 1978 Toyota corolla. It hasnt been transferred to my name yet so i dont have the pinks yet and it hasnt been cali smogged. In cali i can sell it without the pink and the new owner can transfer it all to their name and get it smogged and regged in cali. Also i heard that HI doesnt require smog. So if i can save on that it would help.
Lastly i have several other parts that im including with the car, extra seats, extra set of wheels, another exhaust, etc. The shipping companies ive talked to said if its not bolted to the car, it cant be included in the shipment. Is that true? is that just insuring them that they cant be responsible for anything missing during the shipment?
Any thoughts from anyone whos had experience with this? Would really appreciate the help.

when we moved my family here from HI, anything that wasn't bolted wasn't included. One thing is if you have rare parts, remove them and ship them. We had a rare lip stolen off the car when it shipped. They do go through the car and steal what they can....at least the shipping company we used. I can't remember the name of the stupid shipper though....I'll dig through some old invoices. It was back in 04.

We just shipped a Tacoma back to Maui, Hawaii last month. If I'm not mistaken, the car has to be registered and insured, basically it needs to be legal. Hawaii doesn't have smog but they do have safety check and since its going to Oahu, Recon. You can go here to find out more -

I agree with speedaddict about the bolt-on thing. you can have a spare tire though.
Shipping from long beach is a $1000 bucks which was through matson.

yes...matson is your best bet...and cars that get shipped are damaged 75% of the time...make sure you document the car real good when you check it in...
if they do damage it, they pay you out a good sum of money...i shipped my GS back in the day and both mirrors were scraped and they paid me out like $350...
