#338718Hello! Finally Bought a VIP Platform
Hello. I joined a short while back but I now have a car to build upon. I lived in Japan for several yearsand when I went I was all about the hashiriya (racer) culture.
I've had a DC2, GDB, and an R32 GT-R with always some beat-up kei car as a beater.
I always had fun running in the mountains on Saturday nights with friends,
but I needed a change. The area where I lived (Sendai City) is a car culture and the
VIP culture is huge there. To be honest, I was never into the VIP culture back then.
It wasn't really the style that I didn't like, it was the drivers. In Japan, VIP'ers tend to be
really arrogant and rude drivers. This fueled my disdain for the culture.
After a few years I matured up and learned not to generalize. There are pricks in
every category of car culture. After that, I met a lot of VIP guys who were very helpful and inspirational.
So when news came that I was to move back to California, I decided to go with a car popular with VIP'ers in Japan.
Unfortunately the car I liked the most is one of the most difficult to find in great shape in the States.
The car is a dime-a-dozen across the Pacific, but here in California, it's a pain in the ass to find.
Or maybe I just don't know where to look. I wanted black on black, and being picky made it more difficult.
Finally, after 8 months of searching I found one that wasn't beat up or with high mileage.
The car I chose is the Y34 M45. Or should I say "Y35" since it is the USDM model.
I am in still undecided with which direction to go, I cruise carsensor.net for hundreds of cars to use for inspiration.
I came to this forum to learn more about the US-VIP culture. I hear parts are really hard to get a hold of,
but luckily I am still in touch with all the tuner shops in Japan that helped me build my previous cars.
They'll be willing to send me things if I send them enough California wine!
BTW, they do say "bippu" in Japan!=) (People in the "tuner" culture do anyway)
