you should look into apts in concord or pleasant hill areas which are in the east bay. they have some cheap housing and the area is pretty nice. they are next to walnut creek which has nice shopping and dining. also conveniently located on the 680 freeway, and near the 4 and the 24 if you want to go to the city.
