#342734Unconventional VIP style project/Haters gonna hate
This is a kinda intro thread for me, I've been away from here for a while, figure I'll let everyone know who I am before I get going. So I've been back and forth between the VIP world and the race world for the past few years. I'm getting older/wiser and I'm tired of driving "sports" cars every day. Time to build something nice for myself.
I was on the old forums years ago as UTA_LS when I had a 94' LS400 on 19" DH's. I miss the hell out of that car and wish I had never sold it.
That being said. Here's what I've got going on. My current "nice" daily is an 04' Pontiac GTO. Not your typical GM vehicle. It has a nice smooth ride, leather and suede rather than the cheap plastic interiors that seem to be the same from their trucks to the C6 vette.
I've had this car for a couple years now, didn't quite know what I wanted to do with it until recently. The car itself is kind of "boring" to look at, so I don't really think it would make a good sports car. Its a tank at that, weighing in at over 3800lbs. But she rides as good as my LS400 before I put coilovers on it. So I think its more fitting to build a nice, VIP styled car for me to sit in traffic with every day. What good would 650hp be when I can only move 8mph LOL.
So here's where I start.
Basic 04' Pontiac GTO/Holden Monaro whatever you want to call it, wherever you're from.
Black leather and suede interior. LS1, 6spd. Trailing arm IRS (ugh) and some cheap/ugly wheels that were on it when I bought it.

Then I bought some cheap TR Motorsports wheels from tire rack. I don't remember the front sizes but the rears were 18x10+20. The offsets on this car really blow dick. Most people think they're being "aggressive" with 9/10 +50 f/r setups on these cars. I wound up returning these as I decided (3 years ago) that they were "too low" of an offset and not worth the trouble. Little did I think that when I was test fitting those that I had 0 camber in the rear and even just 3 degrees would have made those fit. But it was late when I was testing these and drunk/lazy so I just wrote them off.

So I sat on the car for a while and just drove it. I didn't feel like jacking around with it as I was working for a successful race shop here in Dallas. The last thing I wanted to do when I got home was to jack around with another car, so it just stayed a daily.
Some time in February this year I picked up a set of AME shallen CX's in chrome from my buddies girlfriend. She wound up putting some TE's on her s14 and needed to sell these. Sizes 18x9 +12 and 18x10+15 in 5x114.3 ... I knew they weren't my bolt pattern (5x120) but they were a good deal and in absolutely immaculate condition. I bought them anyways with the intention of re-drilling my front and rear hubs to be 5x114.3.

Flash forward to a couple weeks ago. The shop I was at has now closed. The owner got married and decided it isn't what he wanted to do anymore. I find a new job with one of America's favorite shipping companies and once again I'm doing well for myself. I decide I'm tired of watching the AME's collect dust and figure its time to figure out what I need to do to fit these on the car. I get the car in the air, remove all the brake bits, and get down to the hub. SHIT, there's a giant hole in the 2 rear hubs for e-brake adjustment that gets in the way of me drilling/pressing new studs in to make it 5x114.3. The fronts are possible but I'm not comfortable doing the rears.
Looked into spacers. The thinnest adapter spacers I can find are .75" thick.... I'm not building fender flares for this car to run 18's. Especially not only 9's and 10's. Maybe if they were 19/20's and at least 10.5" up front.
As of right now I'm on hold again until Monday morning when I can find someone local to re-drill the wheels or start trying to sell/trade these wheels for something more appropriate.
I'll get more pics as this progresses. Any input/suggestions/comments are appreciated. This may or may not be yall's style. Figured yall might want to see something different around here rather than another infinity or lexus build.
