Megan Racing coilovers for the Y33!?

I ran across the Megan Racing website and decided to type in "Q45" in the search engine for sh*ts and giggles.  
 
Low and behold, they have coilovers...

Looks like the knuckles will have to be cut off and rewelded.  No biggie.  :biggthumpup:  
 
I searched on here and looks like Mr.R of Crew45 out in Vegas is running these.

Not bad for 1000 bucks, I wish I had seen this before I got mine.

yeah my boy rhey was the guinea pig for the megans. he had to tweek his set a little. dont really know what exactly he did but he is/was running the prototypes. Hopefully he can chime in and give a little better detail. other than that his ish is slammed!!

btw yes you have to cut and weld. but any good shop can do that.

Still cheaper to do the S chassis swap and your choice of coilovers are way better.  If it was a direct bolt in then it might be a different story.

^ Really? I would think... that even having to have the knuckles welded to the Megan's they would be still cheaper direction. Seems that the cost of the parts to swap to S13/S14 suspension, plus coil overs, would make it more expansive? Granted, I have only lightly researched the general parts needed to swap.

Now, I'm not in any way saying this is a better choice. But, competition breeds better parts. Maybe Megan throwing their hat into the ring is an indicator of things to come for this chassis.

well, after seeing an s13/4 setup, i would recommend going that method -- the parts are plentiful and cheap, and you can go a LOT lower than you would be able to with y33 coilovers (at least, with my insurance group coilovers vs. a powered by max s13/4 setup). you can also run crazy baller shit like ohlins and aragostas, if you felt like it (which is what i would've done, since the insurances almost cost the same. fml)

^^^ seems like most of the y33 guys that went s-chassis swap had a 240 before so it was either already owned or could be and dirt cheap.

true, too, but i think sourcing the parts wouldn't be that difficult -- you can find all of the stuff for cheap on zilvia

Don't get me wrong, I'm still gathering parts for the S-chassis swap. 

However, I'm curious if they'd sell just the pillowball mounts... more than likely a lot less than sourcing the Cuscos!

Its true what Alex said, I had some s13 before y33 so I had the parts laying around, whats hard is finding s14 abs hubs, luckyly mine were abs!

That's actually what I'm having difficulty sourcing, too. The hubs with ABS. I'm probably just going to buck it up and scoop up parts from the dealer.

yeah megan said they can make it a direct bolt on but they will then have to charge anywhere up to 1600

Whats up guys? I see Megan finally released  their coilovers? well i was the one to receive the prototype and i personally like there coilover its a 32 way adjustable set up and its also a cut and weld project witch isn't to crazy i took mine to my boys shop and had him cut and TIG weld everything up. i had to do some tweeking but its only because it was the prototype. last i heard they had everything cleaned up. i think its a really good price for coilovers its also in the US so u dont have to wait long or pay for overseas shipping. :biggthumpup:

these coils are legit, best bang for your buck and comes with a 1 year warranty on the shocks...SOLD!

yeah thats the lowest my prototype suspension goes but i dont know how low the redesign goes.

the suspension rides great i like it even on its stiffest seting

yeah I own a 240 still thats my daily and to source all brand new parts for the S13/14 conversion will run you close to 2gs and thats brand new but if you buy used and cheap you could get close to 1g so its all about up to the buyer, these coils will work great for the vegas guys because we have a spare front Q suspension so no one will have any down time and our welding guy only charges us $40 and he is buy far one of the best welders in town (Virtual Racing) but that is a homie hook up  so we are just lucky I guess

this is by far the best way to go. they have a 1 year warranty with them, if anything goes wrong. if you live in so cal they are close, and they are pretty helpful if you need anything from them. 240sx still seems the way to go in my mind as far as suspension, just cuz it gets you sooooo low.

but wouldn;t you rather just run their s13/14 coils with the their top plates all brand new from them?

1) s13 coils with y33 camber plate and s14 rear top hat

2) s14 coils with the y33 camber plate

3) y33 coils that need to be welded to run?

ok so now remove from car, then dis assemble and the remove the lower red collar, or the middle collar, and then reassemble, and now make the black and red meet. this should get you little bit lower you might want.

well i did a little tweeking on mine im actually running a 6 inch spring now because the springs in the pictures are 8 inch springs. but from my understanding Megan did some adjustments so the future customer would not have to worry. but im not too sure how low the new setup is, from the pics on their website it does look like they went from a 200mm spring to a 180mm spring. they said they were going to also put shorter struts on the new coilovers but i cant tell from the pics. ill give them a call tomorrow and figure out what has changed and ill let everyone know

Not to mention with the Megan's, you get to keep the front sway bar without any hassle.

In my own opinion they all have there pros and cons. With s chassis stuff, your going to have a better option for coilovers and less hassle sourcing parts and wondering if the tops will actually even fit your coils.  The welded ones seem to be a great way to do this but this is also fabrication time and this will still scare people away from doing this. The great thing now is, if you want s chassis coils you can order a set of s14 coils and just ask for y33 front camber plates instead of the ones that come with them. That way you can have a pretty much plug and play setup brand new.

yeah i saw what happen to josh (brokey33) at the cruise. :sad: i give you coilover guys props for rolling like that though.

i've been there before, but i know josh can go lower than oscar can in the front though.... so it's a little bit of give and take...

probably from camber. cuz we could ride fully aired out on the fronts.

These coilovers are a great deal! Pretty much bolt in and warranty is good.

One thing to consider is with Y33 lca and s chassis coilovers you can get more neg camber, if you look at the angle of how the spindle sits as to the strut you will see what I mean. On the Y33 it is more than 90°, and on S chassis spindles it is like 90° and you can slot the holes if you want even more camber! 

As for the swaybar issue, I'm getting a tab welded on my strut to mount it

Well if you use s14 flca they are 15mm longer then the s13 flca. Thats why im trying to c if i can get front camber plates and rear pillow ball/hats. Its made in the u.s. so i cant see it being very hard to get ahold of.

I wonder if these would work on a Y32 chassis ?????
