High mileage Y33

Ok. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on a y33 before the year is up. But I've been searching and all have high mileage. Like, 150-200k. Some nicer ones have around 110k or so. My question is, should I be weary of the higher mileage cars? How much is too much? I know it totally depends on the owner, but I thought I'd ask you guys.

What should I look for when I go and check these cars out? I'm a mechanic by day, so if it does need work I'll be doing it myself. I just don't have a lot of experience with the car.

Aloha, and thanks for the help.

Mainly valve cover gaskets and knock sensors usually go out, the rest I suggest maintenance like plugs, belts, flushes etc.. Also power steering fluid leaks, I've had to replace the pressure hose on mine

Thanks bro!

Mine just turned 150,000. I got it with 143,000.

This is my second Y33 and a couple friends also have Y33 too and we've all had to replace mainly the valve cover gaskets for sure, even on my cousins with 100k mi

I have 97 with only 80,000 miles and I already have replace both valve cover gaskets, injectors, knock sensor both and MAF. The car runs perfect now but I hope I dosent break down soon cuz it cost an arm and a leg to repair.

I'll make sure to look for the VC gaskets. Not too big of a deal though. I was mor worried about catastrophic failure, engine/trans, etc.

mines has approx 110k on the clock, so far since i've bought the vehicle i've had to change the MAF, a few ignition coils that were faulty but not bad, and i have a feeling my cat is going along with my knock sensors and my 02 sensors.

8 mpg for the win!!!

Make sure to buy your knock sensor on eBay they have brand new OEM for 40 bucks unless u want to go to the dealer and pay 199.

Got mine with 124k but I had them replace the valve cover gasket and plugs at the same time.
I then had to replace the O2 sensors for emissions.

Kinda supprised nobody mentioned service records. No matter how many miles a car has, when you are looking to buy a car, you should always ask for service records. Especially when you're looking at higher end cars (because parts/labor will be more expensive). Not all cars will have service records, but it's a good way to verify that it was properly maintained. If you buy the factory service manual for the car you like, you'll find the maintenance schedule. It tells you at what milage maintenance should be performed. Match that up with service records (either provided hard copy by the owner, or documented at the dealer / service center on their computer) and you'll know if the car was properly maintained. With no service records you have no idea if they changed fluids/filters/whatever when they were supposed to.

Personally, I would wait for a low mile car. Yeah a higher mile car will still work, but I've been there and done that and for me personally, things break more often the higher the miles are. For my latest project I just waited it out, waited for a low mile car with the color and options I wanted (or as close as possible), now I got a G50 with 44,000 miles. Def worth the wait.

I've had mine for 4 yearsish (110k now)

ignition coils went bad after 90k service
turbine revolution sensor (on top of the trans)
a recent power steering leak sprung up
valve covers are ok but I can see some fuzz growing there so eventually I will replace them

there are Y33s on craigslist with 250-300k miles... insane! the motor is solid, its just the other sensors etc.
