So what makes a car VIP ??

Is it the extreme body kits? Big brakes kits? Full jdm kits? I mean really what makes a car VIP truly or styled? I thought key aspects of being vip was about wide low offset vip wheels, camber, maybe fender work,' fitment, and  stretch tires.


Can someone correct me on what makes the car VIP IMHO you don't need bbk, jdm kits, etc to be VIP but apparently to this guy I'm not VIP but it's ok. It's his opinion! And here was his response to mine when I said what my opinion of VIP was like I said above...

in se asia and korea : body work, suspension, big pipe exhaust tips, wheels, camber
 
bullo is honestly a wikipedia carshow judge.  regardless of where you live three things are common, body work, suspension(coilovers if ur purist), badass wheels.  Without these three combined you're just what's considered EXE.  Exe is pretty much the way luxury cars come of the lot with maybe some generic offset wheels and slight lowering but no bodykit other than factory lip kit, no pulled fenders or crazy offst wheels. 
 
VIP in Japan nowadays is a far cry from what it was when people over here started catching onto it, hence why cars built over here are a bit more subtle than the ones built there.  It's new to us technically so we're going through the stage of subtle body mods with the wide wheels.  Technically what a sessions show woulda looked like 5-10 years ago.  
 
As more people get into it then to set urself apart you have to go crazier and crazier with your car because if everyone has a low luxury car with wheels and calls themself vip the scene gets stagnant and boring. To get out of that the Japanese obviously started going crazier and crazier, wether it was going widebody, doing a contrasting interior scheme, modifying your body kit to look different from the next 89234 cars with the same kit. Also something the japanese still do to this day is make thier cars look similar to the european competitors.  Sclass style front bumpers, fender vents inspired by lorinser, also now they've taken elements from all the sportier luxury cars out there. bentley basket weave style seats are real hot in the US now.  In Japan it's not uncommon to see elaborate rear diffusers (probably unfunctional) with IS-F style exhaust tips.  LED lights used on the top of the line european brands are now found on various VIP cars at shows. 
 
What makes a car VIP depends on where you live and what's done to it, but stock body, with a drop and wheels isn't enough.

VIP in Japan is more subtle and classy than ever before. The Nov VIP Car feature cars and cover car are all "simple" as it says on the cover and each featuer in katakana "shinpuru" they're all clean and simple. Most have body kits, some have really impressive metal work, but it's all done with the highest attention to detail.

you're correct FLS. but at the end of the day we all know how much politics goes into getting a magazine feature.  If the meets show cars that are far out at the print shows more subtle cars. then it's a mystery as to what could be "right or wrong".  The streets want to see wild stuff, the magazine editors want to see subtle. who knows. Long story short if you build your car for you. laugh at the haters who have nothing better.  That's true VIP. having a fuck your mother mindset.lol

i love that the simple style is coming back. some of the stuff that's been in lately has been over the top imo.

Well Its a certain look you are trying to achieve, If I don't see the look anywhere near that then thats a problem ..

i would like to add, parts should be quality over quantity! and not JUST the most expensive pieces but how you utilize the most expensive pieces to individualize your build! everyone should be aiming to stand above the rest and not to just fit in! 

personally i believe a VIP car should make a certain kind of statement about the owner! like Tony Montana said "The World is Mine!" (no pun intended)

I always find it funny that the newer cats in the game want to be clasified as "VIP/VIPstyled" in everyway possible and most older cats want to be "VIP" w/o being considered "VIP"
 
Personally for me, you can call my shit DUB, Low rider, Hella Flush, VIP, VIPstyled, JDM, etc. the label don't really matter to me. I jus happend to really like this style of modding based on what I had seen in the japanese mags and what AF was doing at the time and thought it was really different to what was going on around me. I really don't focuse on certain categories or traits. Jus what ever I feel looks good to me to pull off the style I see them doing in Japan. Which I give much respect to them because everything from middle to wild they do what the fck they want to and don't give a damn really what others may think or say. They jus stay true to them and to me that's what it's all about.
 
but if we are gonna debate about what makes you "VIPstyled" I think you have to start w/ the right platform first then go for the overall look that portrays the common style of what's going on out there. Which if you pay attention enough it's as clear as day to what that style is.

Mayne if you knew how loyal and down AF is to their customers then you'd understand why I'm so loyal to them. They've been family to me since day 1 and have had my back in more ways than I feel I could ever repay them for. SO yea, AF all day bitches! :rules:

When I think of Auto Fashion, Oscar is one of the first names that comes to mind. Those guys are all super cool, Freddie has always had my respect, he's one of the nicest guys you could meet. And I've always said it but, I wish I lived closer cause I'm envious of the SD guys who get to go hang out there and the Whadup Weds. meets. You guys don't know how lucky you are, then again, you probably do know how lucky you are. Big part of why I look forward to the AF VIP Fest so much every year.

Like some people mentioned, build the car for yourself and dont worry about labels or what other people think.  No matter what you'll always have some hater one way or the other and you wont be able to please everyone.  And I feel the VIP style is changing and different from region to region so you can never nail it down completely.  If you do really care about what people think then VIPcamry had good advice.  If you want to build a car for your own enjoyment and not care about what people think then Pancakes is a good example of that.  
 
Personally I'm building my car for myself and I'll probably have a lot of skeptics and haters when I'm done with my car but I dont care.

Big luxury car, slammed, on nice fitting wheels.  The wheels dont need to be flush but they should still fit well.

Big cars have more presence and are more fitting of the title


Everything your friend listed won't make your car vip but it will make it look better and more complete.

I can't believe we still have threads like this.  I could care less about labels or "platforms" (probably the worst thing to ever be an issue in the US scene, since half of the people who think they know..really don't).  Hell, look what I drive.  To me, you'll know it when it's right.  There's really only one way in my mind to do this...my way.  I build what I do for me to enjoy car life and to have more of a challenge.  I actually love the fact that everything I do either has to cost a grip..or take a lot of fabrication.  It's much more worth while and fulfilling.  And I like to know my car isn't a dime a dozen car with the same kit, wheels, etc. as 5-10 other cars.  Originality is what it's about, to create a car which is an extension of yourself...

In SE Asia, Camry's and Accords cost as much as Lexus' & Infiniti's in the US; so while it may not look like a luxury car to us, its baller over there.

Anyways, what makes a VIP Car?  THE OWNER of the car decides that.  Start with the right platform and BUILD IT FOR YOU. 

WHO CARES WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK ABOUT IT...  It's your car and build it how u like, If I don't like it so what?  It's not my car, not my business.  

Ok ok, honestly, Platform is key.  VIP Cars = a car that a "Very Important Person" would be driven in, or drive themselves.   VIP Styled Car = taking a non traditional platform and making it looked like a VIP Car that has been "Styled"

Damn step by step guide to building VIP hahaha, in a sense i think thats somewhat true, there are certain styles and parts that are mandatory in most vip styled cars. But i think that a VIP car cannot just be dropped with wheels, each part of the car needs to be made more luxurious, the exterior, interior, audio, and even engine.  To be a completed VIP car all aspects need to be addressed

spoken like it should lol think in terms of boats lol , are you in a 5 ft dinghy or a 80ft yacht aka 4 door saloon cars lol buy some VIP car and style mags that could help. but as said its your car have fun with it!!!!

my thing is that i have some of the newer vip style and vip car magazines and i see some tight whips, everywhere i've read (mostly from seaching "vip car" i get that it all started with the mafia bosses cars).  
 
so i look at these new whips and wonder if a mafia boss was in a shoot out would he jump in his ride that had crazy camber and ride off. idk. 
 
i've been here a lil while and i seem to have picked up that in order to be considered "vip" anything, u have to have a sweet stance. i don't think u necessarily have to have wheels with aggressive offsets. i'm sure full face wheels could be put on a platform car with a sweet stance and it would still look just as good.  i read how a lot of people on here think curtains and  fuga's are played out. that may be due to the google answer for the "vip search".  shit, when i first wanted to get started i was already at the textile mill picking out fabric for my curtains. lol. 
 
so my next ride may or may not be a platform but i'ma keep dat "mafia thing" in the back of my head bc as nice as all these fenders with the cutouts and other crazy shit look, i doubt a mafia boss would be rockin those. i think he would just be wanting a baller ass car that no one else could afford.

OMG....please stop.   There's not really any "gangster" involvement.  Seriously...other than the fact that some of the base cars having been used by the Yakuza..they did NOT look like what we are building, in fact they were mostly STOCK and mainly S class Benz, Nissan President, and Toyota Century.  Most of theses guys building now days are very regular dudes.  Not to mention, don't be confused by the USA version of V.I.P and Japan's vip.  That's vip...as in "sounds like whip".  NOT Vee Eye Pee....two totally different things here.  Why do people always like to go back to some poorly interpreted interview with one dude and turn it into fact?  When will that shit end? Also not to mention the poor write ups that throw people off all over the net that people turn into fact in their minds.  

Oh yeah...that's why I ignored all that crap for this long..it's irritating.

To me i was on the VIP thing.. but now its jut my own style. its a mix of all of it together. People ask what style that is, i say dunno.. its just whats in my mind. It's just easier to say its vip to others. Basically juvenile in the eyes of older people who have the same car, and a younger guy with the same thing that is in no way filling its purpose other than a statement.

Just do what you have been doing !! Who cares if it's V.I.P. or vip!! If it's about stretch tires and mexi-flush then Euro guys were the first doing right from start and everyone copied them .... There is no end to this argument and will never be, just make sure your car flows and has a theme and I bet everyone will like it. Most of these cars are odd enough to be worked on since most people see them as a family cars which what they are so unless they are into cars and know about the culture I don't think it should be a surprise to you if they ask about your car.
