Finally, my front coilovers are on

BIG props to Robert <eyedea> and Eastside Muffler in Palmdale! Soon as I got my Y34, Rob hit me up with the bits I needed to make a set of coilovers like what he's running and hooked me up w/ Eastside Muffler's owner Gabe. This shop is awesome, everyone was really cool, and Gabe seriously impressed me.

At near the top, the tire is around 1/2-1/3 tucked, just like the rear, which is just  perfect for my taste. I can't wait to roll down to Auto  Fashion next month now. Took a little longer than expected cause there was  an issue with the camber plates: the shop that machined them had the  direction wrong, so my new best friend Gabe cut some metal, did some welding, and was able  to fab up the correction. I watched him fab up a few things today, this  guy is amazing. 

The setup consists of stock struts/spindles (like all coilovers for Y33 / Y34 are based on) which are cut below the stock perch, add threaded coilover sleeves, Bilstein HD inserts and Stance 14k springs topped off with custom camber-plates.  I was nervous about the 14k springs  being too stiff, but they're perfect with the Bilstein HD inserts, it's  just unbelievable. I can't express how happy I am with this setup and how much I appreciate all Robert's help and patience on this.  And thanks to Gabe @ EM in Palmdale. Even though that place is far as hell for me, I'm gonna have to make the occasional trip up to Palmdale and kick it w/ y'all.

Nice kevin ... is that the lowest that you can ride safely ?
 
BTW add this build to the offical Y34 thread this is a first step  for every one who is creative and doesn't mind the additional work to save $$$

came out great bro! If I owned a Y34 that's the way I would do it to lower it.
 
 If you don't mind me asking, what part number or what car is the Bilstein insert from?

Looks really good!  I'm curious what inserts they are and if they'd fit in they Y33.

With this setup you save money and you get all brand new stuff. Buy used JDM and HOPE for the best LOL. I know plenty of people who've bought used JDM c/o's only to open them up and realize they're blown.  The good thing with this setup too is that if/when the struts need replacing, they're only $100 each.

The perches are actually near the top, I can go about 3" lower but I  think the front sub-frame will be resting on the ground. This is the  height I like best for me and my taste anyhow. I've noticed lately in mags that they feature  cars with heights across the range really, not all slammed like  generally was the case. But my ride height is lower than many guys I know with  air. Yes you can park lower with air, but I can ride lower and it's  really effing comfy still. At this height I got about 4" compression  before bottoming out, which is key to drive on LA roads.

In the next day or two I'm going to Sweeney's to get my exhaust center  section done cause it scrapes on everything now. The front is more or  less 1" lower than it was on cut springs which is exactly what I was  looking for. Rear is gonna stay on the cut Teins for now, there is still  plenty of pre-load in them and the ride is very nice.

My Q took me just about 6 years to get it where I really wanted it, and of course, there was lots of learning in that time. I've had the M now for just about 6 months and already accomplished so much with it.

Jade, with all parts, labor, etc. it was under $900. That includes the 1/2 tank of gas for 150 mile round trip.

Thats a great setup for the money. I know you would have lots of people interested in that if you could reproduce it.

I am working on another solution that might turn out to be a much better fit for the y34 guys. Will update.

Robert, without all your help, none of this would have happened!  This setup is already killer, but the next one might even be better. I'm pretty content with this though!
