PM all the vendors on this forum... and whoever gives you the lowest price I'd say they are the cheapest. Try non-local too...sometimes even with shipping it's cheaper than getting it local. And to mention they don't add tax for out of state purchases. Most shops here will add tax...and some shops even if you pay with cash they'll still add tax. Just because it's local won't make it that much faster there still will be a 3month wait time.

id recommend supporting local business as long as they support you by being affordable with good customer service. try the vendors on our boards...they are here to help you, and you can be assured you wont be ripped off. Personally, speaking out of experience, recommend JDM PALACE

not only that ...it's nice to have a shop that's local that you can follow up with.
Remember you are giving money up front to order wheels that have to be made and come from Japan.
I heard the wait can be up to 6 months now as well.

good luck!

These are all excellent points made. Just because you pay less doesn't always mean you get the same service you'd expect. Sometimes you may pay more but you also get great customer service and a piece of mind. I didn't have to shop around for my WEDS, my local shop is great and I got my wheels in a month and a half. Good luck with your purchase .

AMEN to that. Thank you Mike.

HXS,

Dude just support AF. I own a shop and I know how it is when people now-a-days are cheap. These are the people I don't deal with and just send them to a "cheap" shop. Why? Because if you're going to be cheap, then you are not going to be loyal. If you want name brand, you have to pay the price. The shop can only give a certain amount of discount from retail where you dip into their cut. Just trying to put you in our shoes.

A-FUCKIN-MEN. even if you can make money off of them, sometimes it just NOT worth the headache of dealing with a picky AND cheap customer. at my shop we routinely turn away customers who we know are going to be picky and cheap. some may say that in this economy you can't be picky, well they don't know what they're talking about. with some of these people you're working twice as hard for half as much, and the time spent can be used to deal with other customers.

I see both sides.
There's a local 'tuner' shop here, mainly Subaru stuff, but they are a Works and SSR dealer. However, they aren't willing to give any different pricing than MSRP. I'd be a customer, and a loyal one albeit, if they were willing to at least get close (~$200) to the lesser quote.
But they don't, therefore I'll go elsewhere that's willing to support the community. Like AF.

yup....what people don't know is that while customer shopping around for best deal. shop owners shop around for the loyal customers. personally i like to work with those customers who appreicate the shop the most, and it shows at the end result.

not always. a lot of our repeat customers do it because they know that we'll do whatever it takes to rectify any kind of mistake, our end or theirs, and we'll do our best to make sure they're getting the right stuff. and usually we give our deepest discounts to our repeat customers, because we know they'll keep buying from us.

but it doesn't always start that way. when you build a rapport with a shop, it lets the shop know you're gonna keep coming back to them. whenever we get emails that start "what's the lowest you can give me this item for" or will you take $XXX.XX" (which is usually something outrageous, below our cost) we usually just leave em for the end of the day/week, or for laughs.

customer loyalty is earned through competitive pricing, good customer service, and quality work; not expected when someone walks in the door looking to spend their hard earned money.

in the vip game, parts sales is just middle manning 90% of the time anyway. nobody is stocking these wheels in a variety of sizes or have a warehouse full of $5k kits. how much moeny do you need to pick up a phone/write an e-mail, transfer some funds, and wait on a delivery?

no offense to any of vsc's supporting vendors, this is just how i think business should be done.

of course.

i'm referring to the people who lowball the crap out of you, and then go even further to nitpick about inconsequential things. it's not worth the time and effort servicing (no homo) these customers. of course with most customers you, at the very least, make an effort to help them out the best you can.

yeah, if you give 100% from the jump then there's nothing to discuss with that type of person. however, if you are reserving your best only for those deemed worthy then can you really complain when a new customer expects better?

i didn't mean to shit on you, i'm sure you're a pleasant person to work with.

i was just saying, worst case scenario for anyone working in retail or resale is a cheap person who nitpicks. of course there are cheap people who are fine to work with, but then there are the really terrible ones who are not only cheap, but they're a pain in the ass to deal with.

anyways, i'm done derailing your thread, sorry i guess the topic got kind of out of hand. good luck finding your wheels, everyone deserves to get what they want.

Exactly my thoughts, I been to expensive shops and your typical mom and pop shops and there are hacks all over ofcourse a bigger shop with all the flat panel tvs hangin up all over the walss are gonna be more expensive, but that shit doesnt mean a thing at the end of the day its quality and service and how the job was done
