Anybody done it? Where's the transmission plug and how many quarts of Nissan ATF fluid type J did you put in?

should be on the transmission pan, but some cars don't have drain plugs and you have to drop the pan for drain/refill. if you don't have a drain you can add one for next time. b&m, and i'm sure plenty others, make a kit. also a good idea to change your filter while you're in there. make sure you get any gaskets/o-rings needed at the same time.

another option is a bg fluid exchange. it pumps fresh fluid through the system under it's own power. you can find local shops that use the bg tool on their website.

I just checked my 2000 Q45 service manual since I'm planning on doing the same.

This is for a 2000 Q45 but it should be pretty similar:

1. Warm up A/T fluid.
2. Stop engine.
3. Drain A/T fluid from drain plug and refill with new A/T fluid.
Always refill same volume with drained fluid.
Fluid grade:
Nissan Matic “D” (Continental U.S. and Alaska) or
Canada Nissan Automatic Transmission Fluid
Refer to “RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND
LUBRICANTS”, MA-8.
Fluid capacity (With torque converter):
10.5 (11-1/8 US qt, 9-1/4 Imp qt)
Drain plug:
: 29 - 39 N×m (3.0 - 4.0 kg-m, 22 - 29 ft-lb)
4. Run engine at idle speed for five minutes.
5. Check fluid level and condition. Refer to “Checking A/T Fluid”.
If fluid is still dirty, repeat step 2. through 5.

If I were you I'd download the 03 Infinity Q45 service manual on www.carfiche.com for free and use those specs since its the same engine and I think transmission. If not then join inifinitihelp.com and pay the $10 subscription and get ALL the Infiniti service manuals like I did. $10 is dirt cheap and you can get it anytime for a year.

I think the most important thing to remember is to refill with the same amount that you took out. Also make sure on your car use the Nissan Matic J fluid ONLY. My Y33 uses Matic D which claims it is just Dexron III by valvoline or something. Book says it takes over 10qts. but that's when it was brand new and dry so don't go by that.

Went under the car this morning and removed all the under carriage covers and could not find the transmission drain plug... Anyone know where it's located?

Hey did you ever get this figured out? Well theres no plastic cover under the trans and every tranny I've been under has a plug (the exception being some newer altima cvts) after you get the fluid drained the dipstick is behind the engine, it's easy to see from the bottom the tube is on the right hand side of the trans going up into the engine compartment then I always start with 4 quarts, start the engine and let it warm up and then check and add as necessary, these cars usually take 4-5 qts, don't just throw six in you'll over full it. When the book says a certain amount it assumes a completely dry transmission, with a drain and fill you can't get all the fluid just by draining. Also there aren't any replaceable filters for these trans so a drain and full will do or a flush I'd you have access to the equipment, hope that helps I've worked at nissan and am currently at infiniti
