3d TV?

black friday i went to best buy and tried out the 3d tv and i thought it was the shit lol i was baked so maybe it wasnt that kool. What do you guys think bout it?

From what I've seen, I'm not too impressed.
Lots of ghosting. 3D thing is a fad IMHO. Having to put glasses on to watch TV is just too much of a PITA.

What I don't get is why would they need a 3-D specific TV. Couldn't they just distort the image on a regular TV to make it 3-D? Its not like you into a movie theater made specifically for 3-D. Its all in the projection.

I don't see why any high quality TV couldn't do it either. However, I tried it in Japan and was pretty impressed, although, I'm perfectly happy with my meager 46" 1080p 120hz Toshiba non-3d.

I dont believe in it.  They haven't fully tested how it affects your eye sight.  Put it this way, if you don't wear glasses, the Dr. will tell you not to put on someone's glasses for a long period of time as it causes your eyes to constantly refocus to just focus on one image, thus causing future damage to your eyes.  This leads to you having to wear glasses in the future.  Now take that concept and put it to 3D TVs.  You put on a pair of glasses, and while looking at a TV, your mind knows it is a 2D set up and your eyes are constantly refocusing to focus on the 3D picture and to fully engage in the 3D picture.  After extended periods of time, you may cause damage to your eyes (just my own analysis of the concept).

I think it is just a fad for now and will slowly pass.  I don't mind keeping it in the theatres as you only go once in a while and watch it in a 1.5-2hr incriments.  But to further the arguement, doesnt it tell you something when theatres are not supposed to allow children under the age of 13 i believe to watch a 3D movie as they don't know how it will affect them? (if they changed that rule, then ignore the last statement :P )

I'm a fan of 3d stuff so to me it was a worthy purchase. The glasses thing is no big deal to me. it causes a slight discomfort but no real harm done.  I love playing GT5 in 3d, call of duty is also pretty cool in 3d. Even if you don't use 3d, some of the 3d tvs happen to be some of the best televisions sets on the market right now. Prior to this I had a 52 inch 7 series samsung which I thought looked GREAT but I love my new tv even more.  The only real issue is the lack of content out at this time and it still hasn't really taken off and who knows if it actually will.  Also the prices for 3d movies are a little high at $30 each, i don't normally pay more than $20 for new release blurays. It's a gimmick, it may not be your bag but to me it's pretty neat.  I had a few friends and family try it out and several of them complained of headaches, eye strain, diziness, etc so do some research and have a sit in at one of the store demos before making a purchase. I personally didn't feel any side effects, a very slight head ache at the very start but nothing major. I have no issues focusing my eye sight when taking off or putting on the 3d glasses and I also wear prescription glasses under them. I said it before and ill say it again, the say microsoft and sony get their heads out of their asses and work together we could have a real virtual reality experience TODAY.

Imagine the kinect full body senor working in conjunction with sony 3d tech... gives me goosebumps thinking of all the possibilities.  Many have already hacked the kinect and are expanding it.  okay okay im stepping off the soap box.

3D T.V's are pretty dope but im not down with the glasses, Im waiting for 3D HD projectors =)

I'm not gonna lie, being baked really adds to the effect when watching things in 3d.

Come on dude. The Blob in 3D isn't anything like Avatar. 3D has been around. Just won't be in the home for the long. Leave it in the theatres for once a year.
Now  the kinetic thing is a whole other story. Interactive TV is definitely on the rise.

Mr.J - 3D projectors have been done. Dual projectors get the job done. There are new age 3D projectors. Biggest problem is existing standard cabling can't handle the load. A couple years and everything will be switched over.
