Alternatives to coilovers.

Hey guys,

I have a set of bc racing coilovers on my car and im looking for something more smooth. These things are amazing around turns, and even on smooth hi ways. But as soon as you enter eneven roads or dips and drops in the road they are horrible. They are too stiff for this type of car. I miss the old ride but I like being low. I have em set to the softest setting and im not interested in air ride. if i return to stock struts with youzealand lowering kits, will that be low enough? i just want no wheel gap

What car? I will trade you my Megan EZ streets, which are super smooth but not washey while getting you really low.

there is no [I]good[/I] soft option for being static low. as ride height decreases, spring rate increases.
 
depending on the car you could probably ride aggressive drop springs, struts with adjustable perches (bilstein, koni, etc.), and an ss kit to get low. just don't get mad when you leave your exhaust behind.

he only wants to get rid of gap so i don't think he's too concerned about being really low like you and me Mike. Hence, i offer to tade coilover setups ;)

lol... i always forget that when regular people say gap they mean to the tire.

 Honestly, my set is really smooth. I'm tucking tire on all four corners and my wife hasn't complained once.... that's saying something.

Since you're such an expert, please explain how spring rates change as you lower the car?

misworded i suppose, unless we are talking progressive springs.
 
what i meant was as you go lower a higher spring rate becomes necessary.

What would make the EZ street coilovers smoother than the BC racing? They both have 10k springs in the front and 8k in the back

dampening. design. build.

rubber mounts, valving.
 
not saying they are smoother, but these are differences.

Valving is a big part, as the EZ streets are valved far less aggressively. Also, the upper mount is rubber to make it ride smoother.

Also, reading "as ride height decreases, spring rate increases" in literal form can only imply one thing. I was only helping the OP from getting into misguiding information that you usually see on internet forums. However, the poster admitted to his miswording.

I dont have EZ streets but my megan LP ride really smooth...I'll second that.

^Yeah, I have ridden on LP also, and they are pretty smooth, but even those are stiffer than the EZ streets.

if you want a stock like ride with and get rid of 99% of the gap, id go with tein cs. it costs a little more but i guarantee that it rides as close to stock as you will get.

i would love to trade but i can't park my car for 2 -3 weeks while we ship back and forth. It is my daily driver. I guesse ill just tuff it out for now till summer I will get a new set.
