G50 + 2JZ + Radiused Fenders + Euroline SL's = The new build thread :)
This car will be a demo for my business. In an effort to do something fun and fresh we thought long and hard to figure out something that would meet all of our needs and catch peoples attaention at shows.
Being a big fan a VIP stuff we decided to go that route this time, with a small twist... haha The car is an Infiniti Q45, that will be powered by a single turbo 2JZ-GTE. The goal is to build a VIP car that isn't the typical "drop and wheels" deal which has become the norm among US VIP cars.
The plans are the following: 2JZ swap, 67mm turbo, Custom Air Suspension, Radisued Fenders with custom flares, Aimgain Euro Edition Aero, Work Euroline SL's etc.
Here's an idea on what we'll be doing with the fenders/inspiration behind the build:
We will concentrate on getting the engine running first. If you have some doubt the car will get completed check out our last DEMO car (finished is 3 weeks, long story..lol):
So enjoy the build thread. I apologize again for the picture quality....
Getting ready to pull the factory engine:
Engine Removed, and ABS Removed:
Pretty much everything removed..lol
Prep'd for paint, just needs taping. The bay will be sprayed BMW Carbon Black:
Picked up a nice 2JZ from the guys at JSpecAuto
Staying true to VIP form we'll be keeping the auto trans:
These guys however will be coming off:

Had to pick this up early this morning so the painter could get it out of his bay and it wouldn't be sitting out in the snow with no hood:
Once again with the crappy pics:
Just finished untaping everything, the wiring harness will be re wrapped in fresh etape shortly, and then it's time for the engine to be installed!

I'm curious what will happen with the rear portion of the drivetrain when you run that much power (2JZ with 67mm thru an auto should be good for what, 600-700whp?) Do you guys plan to change anything behind the transmission? (driveshaft, diff, axles, etc)? Definately going to be watching this to see what happens. I know there are some other guys that run alot of power in their G50's (I'm pretty sure someone put a turbo on the v8), I'm wondering if the stock stuff can handle it!!

The rear end is basically identical to the Z32.. Only difference is the Diff which is a R200 not a R230 like the ttz's but they are plenty stout enough.
The auto trans will fail long before the rear end. We will be making 450-500whp.

hahah if you are seriously interested, send Ben @ Freed Engineering an e-mail asap.. He made the mounts for me and he would be glad to make another set, but the engine is going to go in very soon. I can ship him back the mounts so he can copy them for you. He can also do the wiring for you.
We seriously couldn't have done this without him. He did the mounts and wiring on our Z as well.

I'm only assuming you are reffering to the fenders. Which is the only thing that will be a challenge with this project. Everything else we have done before. The fenders will be new territory for us, and I have done an insane amount of research on what it takes to do it correctly. It's either going to turn out awesome, or horrible... haha
Also I should add, the fenders won't be touched untill the Areo gets here. Which may hold the project up for this year. If the Areo doesn't arrive untill March, then the fenders won't get done untill later.

Very nice. I love seeing all out builds like this. Can your friend Ben assist in making mounts for other engines going into different chasis? Or is it typically just 2jz drop ins?

I think it might be because many of us DON'T do the norm. To me this build sounds like what a lot of us have done (and gone far beyond)..but most that aren't as into it don't. Make sense?
We like to see that it's planned as such, just make execution on point.

I've been around the VIP scene for quite sometime. It seems the trend in general these days to slam a car with aggressive wheels and walk away from it.
Certianly there are plenty of guys in the US who are not the norm and have built amazing cars. It just seems there are so many more people that "arn't as into it" these days building VIP cars. Like I said the statement wasn't meant to offend.

Understood, and my post was just meant for clarification. I didn't feel you meant to upset anyone...and believe me, you aren't alone in feeling the way you do. Several of us have done mods which most people would never even notice since they were done not to make the car more radical appearing through the actual mod, but for what the mod enabled us to do with the car.

He did the Z harness in a week. I would assume it'll be the same on this.

Very interesting. I too have thought about this swap. Glad to see someone try and tackle it on the G50. Aimgain Euro kit too? Damn...Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall a G50 state side with that kit. Well on the VSC boards in the US at least. I've seen Sessions but not the Aimgain. My favorite kit by far for the G50. As someday I will get that kit for my car too. Anyways, have you decided on the wheel size? Cause the Garage Freedom G50 is rockin 20's. Which "in my opinion" only look good cause of the fender work and fender line being raised up higher plus being slammed. Just curious that's all.
Please keep us updated with a lot of progression pics and stuff. Can't wait.

I'll be directing my body guy on the fender work. I'll probably be doing much of the cutting and measuring, and he'll be doing the welding and body work.
I might take you up on that trade. I have been considering switching from air to coilovers with a cup kit. Let me get the air installed and see see how it rides at the height i'll need it to be at.

Yes, the Garage Freedom car is running 20" wheels. Our car will more than likely have 19's, but we'll see. Fenders will be designed around the wheels.

Auto with a 2JZ is not a total loss. I have a friend that runs 2JZ and Auto for drag racing in a MKIV and ran in the 10's with around 600-700whp (can't remember if it was a single 67 or a single 72). He preferred it because he could launch on boost (upgraded torque converter with a high stall speed). But anyway, there is a Toyota Built Automatic Transmission you can buy that will handle more power, and then there is also the conversion to the GM TH400 (3 speed, but can add overdrive with the addon) for the really high power levels. I always thought the 6 speed was the most fun to drive, but for a VIP build, Auto sounds good!!

At the moment the best(?) auto upgrade for a 2JZ would probably be the TMS one, especially if you aren't going for stupid amounts of power (1000+hp). After that it's Powerglide/modded TH400 all day.
Here:

But the question in my mind is, who's gonna be the first baller with a fully built VIP ride to go in to 10's in the drag strip :bowrofl:

Yea, it will have everything but the areo and fenders done by sumospeed.... kinda sux, but the aero won't arrive in time.
Ok, We haven't done enough lately on this car. The rush became a little pointless since we will not be getting the aero in time for this season. However, we managed to get the A/C line figured out, and the new P/S lines as well as test fit the new turbo and manifold (which doesn't fit). The compressor housing hits the first runner, so we'll be using Brett Hamilton to fix this issue along with changing the wastegate flange.
We will have to use one Infiniti connection and one Toyota connection on each of these lines, then polish them :) :
Same deal with the P/S Line:

We will have better pictures + more work done soon hopefully! Stay tuned for updates.

Hahahaha!!! For real!! Man thats gonna take some experimentation!!! But I wouldnt doubt it!! To run that fast gonna need traction, so stretched tires and negative camber works against it. But if someone were to slap on a set of proper Drag Radials and still be considered VIP .... then it's game on!! The fender mods people do in this scene would compliment some fatty's in the rear (and I'm not talkn bout chicks)!! I can easily see 315's fitting (tucked) in the rear of VIP cars with fenderwork... but the question will remain .... how far could you take it and still be considered VIP??? I can't answer that one ....

Pulled the engine back out to run the new brake lines. The old ABS and Traction Control system were removed simply because of how much they cluttered the engine bay.
We will be using the following brake system:
Stock Booster
Z32 1 1/16 BMC
Custom non-ABS Lines
Brembo STI Calipers (Front)
Z32 Calipers Rear
EVO Front Rotors
We got all of the lines done yesterday except one of the rear lines. I think we will end up pulling them all off and painting them black, but I'm not sure how that will turn out... anyway:
The tee here will be removed and painted, rubber grommets will be installed in the fender well where the lines penetrate:

Thanks!
I spent some quality time with just me and the Q today :) I got the radiator situation figured out, I'll be running the OEM G50 radiator and custom lines. The OEM radiator is huge, so it should be more than sufficient to cool the new engine. I made up some custom Radiator hoses as well and got everything mocked up.
I also managed to figure out the heater hoses, and get them installed.
All little stuff but necessary. Getting close to first start time!
Oh and quality pictures will be up next week!

Nah it's going to be black. We held off on doing it because I was originally thinking we would have to hack the Traction Control half off of it. But it turns out that wasn't necessary, anyway now that we know it'll work as is it's going to get taken off and shined up. :)

So, the JDM Headlights came today. The goal is to make them look like this:

yeah i did that to my headlights not long ago...altho g50s seem to have only an insert in them which is probably only a matter of heating up the lights, pulling them apart and taking the deflector out. mine were actually part of the lens so i had to sand the F... out of it
certainly no fun to do...

Yea, G50's are fairly simple to do. Easier if the mail service already removes the lens for you! haha

one problem is, once you remove those deflectors...at night time your light scatter everywhere...i even added bulb shields to mine, it didn improve a little(dont blind anyone)but driving at night with those sucks!
i was thinking of doing a projector retrofit on mine, but sadly i have limited space under bonnet and not keen to move anything around etc.
goodluck with your build!

Yea, but I paid $40 for mine. Compared to $300 I can do that work myself.
My S14 set I did, jdm housings with final konexxion lenses (way before they were made by stateside companies):

Would you mind posting pics of yours installed, I'm curious what they look like on a USDM car? Did you paint the housing trim black or leave it chrome?

Mine are chrome. And here is a pic of them on the previous owners car in AZ. I haven't put them on my car yet. Be nice if you could score on a pair of Braga corners. Would match the headlights better cause no deflector. Or just take apart the stock ones like the head lights.

THANKS JJ for getting me hooked up with a new dr side lens!!!! It was shipped today, so I thought I would go ahead and start on the non broken side. Enjoy the pics, I think it turned out great:
Cleaned the housing as good as it would get and removed all of the plastics and lights:
Here is what the light looks like from the factory:
Baked it in the oven for a bit and removed the outer lens. As you can see it is clear:
A little more baking will allow you to remove the inner lenses and trim ring:
Inner lenses removed:
I'm not sure how other people do this set but I decided to paint the inside of the headlight housing black, since it will be visible now. I used to be the same color as the outside of the housing:
Almost finished, just need to repaint the edges of the lens as most of the oem paint was flaked off:
Final Product after baking:

Got the headlights and OEM bumper mounted untill the aero arrives! All of the wiring is finished up, AFC is wired and the Aristo auto trans is wired (Thanks to Ben @ Freed Engineering!) Also test fitted the newly refinished air guides, please excuse the gigantic battery!:

DOM!!! I haven't talked with you in years man! How is everything thing? I hope all is well. What are you driving these days?
Haha! I agree.. I was kinda committed to the engine swap once it was started, it had to be finished first.
However, the fenders are the part I'm looking forward to the most. The aero won't be here until May, so bleh... it sucks.

And btw..I would go juice on the suspension (hydropnuematic). It's so nice being able to ride very low and have a decent ride to boot. I can't tell you how many people have asked me what my suspension was due to how it rode and considering the ride height.

Juice seems the BEST ideal suspension for VIP. After speaking with OCKlasse he has convinced me it is the best solution. Even better than bags/cups/coilvers etc..
After seeing you have the knowledge and tools to do hardlines then this should be considered.

Anyway...
Boring update: I got the drvieshaft back 2 weeks ago and it wouldn't work. So it had to go back to the shop to get modified to work properly. Since I'm using the Aristo auto trans it complicates thangs a bit..
Air suspension should be getting installed this weekend too!!

No more clean engine bay :(
After driving it around for a few days, we discovered the engine had way too much oil PSI, a very common problem with 2JZ's. This caused a huge oil leak, and managed to spray oil all over the bay. The Front Main Seal or the Oil pressure relief spring oring is the culprit. So, we'll have to replace these items before heading to the dyno. I'm sure Kevin will thank us!!
Also, started on the air suspension this afternoon... Got the false floor mocked up, and decided on locations of everything. I'll post up some pics later. Finally getting started on the "important" stuff.. haha

Yea, the chapmans with raised lower mounts. Full up is about 1" wheel gap all around. I'm happy I went with an 8 valve setup. The car rides extremely nice, I was very suprised, however, I've never driven a car on air before either.

Nothing insane. Specs on the current 19's aren't earth shattering or anything. But they are:
19x9 +10 (with spacer)
19x10 +10 (with spacer)
I've kinda rethought the wheel setup on this car and when the aero arrives we might switch it up. I think 20's will work better with the car. Won't be starting on fenders untill the aero gets here.

Thanks guys! Day time pics are coming at some point. I need to get the new hood painted first.
I am beginning to think this car is cursed too. Yesterday a friend of mine was driving the car to get a safety inspection for me and the radiator took a dump. The upper water neck just broke off.. lol Seems like I'll need to work out a few more bugs before it's done done. (The engine bay that is). bleh..
I'm also seriously considering switching to coilovers before I do the fenders. I'll have to shorten the downpipe first and see how the car drives lower, but I like the idea of stiffer springs.

Although it did win "Best of Show" at Springfest this past weekend.. haha Undeserving imo, but still cool.

Yea wheels are temp! haha, I mean I like SL's and all but the offsets on these are just too high for a G50. I think I made the decision on new wheels though. Weds LXZ's is where I'm leaning.

Thanks :) Like I said I think it was undeserved, but it was a "peoples choice" award, it was nice to see people appreciate a G50.

i like it; hoodless, sunk, and all. i wouldn't be mad if it stayed like this.
g50 fitment is hard without fender work because of the arch line. i expect my fitment to be pretty similar, maybe a little tighter (and tucking an inch of rim).

Excellent swap, although when I just saw pics without reading posts I thought my head was playing tricks on me--a Q with 2JZ-- can't be. I'm all straight now, like I said excellent swap. Later.

Well, finally managed to find the source of all of the issues we've been having with the car. Turns out the headstuds had stretched a tad and there was a minor leak on cyl 3 allowing the cooling system to pressurize and also causing a "boost leak". So.. head's at the machine shop getting decked and hot tanked and a valve job.
Current state :(

Was the stretch within factory guidelines or way of? I checked every one of mine before I bolted my head in place and one was about a mill over so had to change that... But good to hear you found out your bug.
Oh BTW now that the head is off, you should just port&polish it. Exhaust side is OK'ish but the intake side is terrible from factory and screams some lovin' =)

I went with ARP studs, so I tossed the oem bolts they are almost always stretched beyond factory specs.

SERIOUSLY!! The funny part is when I did the 2J in the Z, as soon as it was first started there were zero problems with it. It ran perfect the entire time I owned it. This car is the polar opposite... haha
I think I just started with a bum engine in the first place. The head was warped from the get go. I spoke with the importer I got the engine from (J Spec Auto) and they are going to replace it free of charge, which is extremely cool of them.
I've also been preoccupied with my other project as I'm trying to get it finished before the end of summer:
The Q isn't a daily so it's kinda been sitting on the back burner. It'll be finished shortly I hope!

It's finally running and driving again! It's been a long and frustrating experience but hopefully I can finally concentrate on getting the more important things finished on this car!
EDIT:
Just FYI for all you G50 guys... The MK4 Supra Aluminum Radiator is a perfect fit on the G50. Obviously I don't have a stock engine so the inlets and outlets are a tad different than the OEM radiator, but the lower mounts slide right into place, just adapt the supra upper mounts and it's good to go.
Just thought I'd share since there is no premade aftermarket unit for our cars.

I am using a 300zx Hub on my car, it will bolt on but you will loose the turn signal reset function, which is kind of annoying. I am going to look into fixing this shortly though.

Ok.. So here's an update even though its been a long time.
The First Stage of the build is finally nearing to an end. The car is now reliable under boost, which is very important to me anyway..haha
Next up is Stage Two which will include the following:
New Suspension - Either short bags on custom built short stroke coilovers or short stroke coilovers with 5" Swift Springs. Coilovers are 1 1/2" shorter than standard G50 coilovers.
Aero - Finally feel comfortable getting to this point now that the car is reliable
Radiused Fenders - Juzzo thanks for the inspiration!!
New suspension Arms (Front and Rear) and shortened third arms
New Tail Lights

Pics coming when I have time to breathe.. Selling my house and buying a new house plus working every hour of the day doesn't lend itself to pics ;)

Ok, so I should update this thread a little bit. Aero has been ordered and awaiting shipment, rear fenders have started the radiusing process.
In this pic the outter fender has been cut 2" higher than stock, this will be fairly close to ride height. Inner fender has been mostly removed to achieve this height, and still be complete driveable. Still need to build a flare and cut the outter fender higher, then weld in a new inner fender. The car is still on air and I'll be switching to coils/cups soon.
Also, thinking about changing the color to white... haha White on Black goes so hard.

Got the inner fenders "clearanced" haha, and bought the metal to reform the inner fenders, although i had thoughts of just leaving it...

they way i have done it, and how i have seen it done by others, is to keep trimming the body til the tub fits; rather than trying to trim the tub to fit the body. then plate off whatever needs it.

Somewhat of a big update... rear flares are formed and tacked on the car, here ya go:
First I see now how awesome the no flare look on the 326 Power G50 can be... just from simply cutting the fender it looks pretty badass:

On to the flare:

I kept going back and forth on how to actually make the flare, my body guy suggested we try this technique and see how it works out. I think it ended up working really well for what I wanted and it was fairly easy. The flare is actually from a E34 I just cut both front flares out and sectioned them almost all the way through, but left enough meat for it to retain some rigidity. This allowed us to form the flare to the exact shape we wanted while still retaining an oem look.

looks bad ass but couldn't the same thing have been acomplished by cutting the fender at the upper oem bodyline? i always assumed that was how this one was done:

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Are you referring to actually cutting the oem Q fender and shaping it? I was pretty adamant about using an all metal flare with an oem look, this way i was able to have both plus get the exact shape I wanted and it only took a few hours to do both sides :)

nah. i'm talking about the oem fender. how it flares out, body line, drop down, body line, angles in. i always figured the car pictured just cut up to the top body line. seems like it would yield the same result with less work. your way looks good too.

Ahhh I see what you're saying, I doubt it though as that line on the OEM fender is extremely oval, whereas the car pictured above is almost perfectly circular. Plus I wanted my arch higher than that would be too as the stock fenders are really low on G50's imo. I'm pretty sure the flare on my car as it sits is probably close to 3" higher than OEM.
Here is another pic of that car... you can see the relation to the flare and the gas tank door compared to the stock picture:

looks like you're right. i just can't imagine needing to cut that high. with a half inch gap on 19s my rails are 3-3.5 off the ground. the least i consider drivable is 1" so max radius 1.5-2". he's on 20s so +1 is 2.5-3", minus the gap he has. looks like he cut about 4-5". wonder what else is going on under there?

Yea, as my car sits right now at drive height i've got maybe 1.5" of clearance in most places.... and the exhaust will have to be remade completely. Fuel lines will be relocated, engine will be lifted, It's one of those things you just have to live with/deal with to get the look i guess.

I'm getting super anxious to get the fenders finished... I decided it would be much safer to remove the gas tank when welding in the new inners and to do that i've got to remove the air tank, so it's a bunch of work, hopefully I'll have enough time this week to get it done. Then I can start on the fronts..

Yea, that kinda what I was thinking, they seem like a solid option for the rear.. if they work.
I wonder what this means:
~ Compatible with all OEM and aftermarket arms, rods and coilovers however modifications must be made to the RUCA for cars that use Q45, Porsche, or similar large CV axle joints.

More progress... Inner fenders are coming along:
First, I had to cut out some space to make more room for the new soon to be raised inner fender.
At first I thought this would be enough...
First test fit:
I was wrong, it wasn't enough room (well maybe it would have been but I didn't want to chance having to do this again as it's much more of a pain in the ass than you would think).
So, here is the "more clearance version" I had to cut into the shock tower a bit to get more inner clearance. Now a 19x10 -5 with a 275 tire will TUCK completely in the wheel well and have 3.5" of possibly upward travel with no rubbing issues. 3.5" is more than the under car clearance so it should be just plenty (and prob overkill).
Tacked into place:
Making stuff like this is so time consuming:

Thanks for the kind words! I've never done anything like this before, so I'm learning as I go (just trying random shit and hoping it works), I also avoided getting into the door (for now) I still have my doubt that everything will clear in that area, but we'll see. I will say I am absolutely looking forward to doing this on another car. It's a lot of work, but it's not nearly as bad as I had built it up in my head to be.

May not be right......? Yea right LOL. You do what you know and as long as it works at the end is all that matters. There is always room for improvement later on.
But with those fenders you can probably tuck a 20x11 -0 and be able to drive.

But with those fenders you can probably tuck a 20x11 -0 and be able to drive.
So hopefully you'll be doing yours soon then right!?

The fronts are EVO's and rears are STI's. I just used a S-Chassis adapter up front.

So a minor setback here... but lots of progress too!
PLEASE REMEMBER IF YOU ARE DOING ANY INNER OR OUTTER FENDER WELDING, REMOVE YOUR INTERIOR!!!
I did have enough sense to remove the gas tank though, thank God:
Welded the outer fender before starting n the inners:
Then caused this, which sucked, but it's not as bad as it could have been luckily my buddy was able to put the fire out quickly, while i was running around like a moron looking for a fire extinguisher:

Yea, you know it's life sometimes things happen.
No point getting upset, can't change it, just fix it and move on... so more progress!!
Had to modify the fuel filler neck becuase the new inner fender would interfere with it...
I thought about using a rubber hose, as I was able to get it really straight, however for peace of mind, I'll be welding in a new section. No flex and no chance of leaks this way.

I don't have to worry about the oil pan.. I don't have a V8 in my car ;-) Oil pan is slightly higher than the sub frame now :)
Interior was always on the to do list, although I admit the c pillar, headliner, and rear shelf were NOT on the list, I have some IS250 front seats I may retro into the car and have the rear re upholstered to match and I've been toying with the idea of a full F50 interior retro.. although that wouldn't be anytime soon.

Originally it did not fit as high as it is now, I raised the engine a bit to correct the driveshaft angle, and it also gave me the added benefit of more oil pan clearance :-)
If I can finish this radius, aero, and coilovers by the summer I'll be happy. I'll rock the burned interior too! haha

Yea, funny story about that. I assumed they were included in the side skirt price, as it turns out they are not. They are getting ordered shortly. Hopefully they will be able to get EMS'd here.
Also, I finally finished grinding and seam sealing both rears, just need to spray em with undercoating now. I moved onto the front, started on the tubs this past weekend. :)

I would say yes, it would look out of place. The sides actually hang down lower than I thought they would.

Do you need to run a ground when using a plasma cutter? Just curious. Never used one. That shop is sick!!! You guys need a painter.... I can start in two weeks.... All I need is a plane ticket and please have a turnkey Nova-Verta downdraft ready-to-go. Thanks . I make shit shiny.

Yeah you can see the plasma ground clamp in the pic below. It uses a tiny gauged wire compared to a welders ground feed.
Thanks, and please come paint for us, but I hope $0.00 dollars per hour will be within the range of payscale your looking for, if so your hired!
I did see the mythbusters episode where the proved it's possible to polish a turd, so I believe your claim of the ability to make shit shiny. :)

Ha! Link was great! Who knew??? Makin shit shiny is my response to people who ask "what do you do?". I think there is a misconception that painting cars is just as easy as grabbing a paint gun and waving your hand across a few panels then youre done..... Think again. In a similar vein of thought somebody might look at this and think "yea just make some cuts and then weld some things in there and youre done"...... I havent done any of this kind of radical modification to the apron, upper rail or any other part of a car but I have the brains to know that its not as easy as it looks. I love pics like this, the more you got the better.
I can start A.S.A.P.but as far as pay goes if you can just multiply $0.00per/hr X 10,,, I mean by 1,000,,, I mean by 100,000,000 shit lemme figure this out.......mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Seems JZZ got you covered on the last one, but here's a little bit of my old on going ranger project that's getting ready for a total redo and is currently tying up the lift so we couldn't put the Q up on it the other day.
Here's how it has looked for the past few years. Shaved bodylines, tailgate, lights, molded fender vents, supra tails, side steps, etc.. Basic triangulated 4 link and fuel cell setup in the rear. I'm going back to a more stock bodied look and different bed/tails but Z'ing the and sectioning the frame down to go lower and fix the reverse rake these rangers have when laid out. Sold the old wheels, it's sittin on stockers here.
Decent Stereo with some old style PPI amps, (yeah yeah ignore the lame seats, they are already gone, I got rid of them a while back)

Haha, now after littering up JZZ's thread, I presume your maybe not into bagged minitrucks, but might be asking because you noticed the greddy titanium can sticking out the side?
Well since this bed is going to the scrapyard and I'm doing another one, I've been wanting to do some sort of different exhaust setup than typically seen on trucks, this was laying around and JZZ thought it might be worth trying since I didn't care about the bed. Now if I did something like this it would obviously be fiberglassed in and molded around so it doesn't look like a gaping hole in the bed. But here is a 2 minute cut to stick it through.

Yup, did the bodywork back in 2000/2001, I've had this truck for 13 years. It's gonna look completely different this summer. Already sold the fenders, the front end and bed/lights are going bye bye too..
Now corvette tails in the pan is old school.. Among other sweet shit like dancing beds and truxterossa kits..

It gets about 15" of lift in the rear at 120psi when measured from the bumpstop to the axle running firestone 2600's, the front gets about 8"-9" on slam specialties re-7's but the ball joints maxing become the limitation when trying to get tons of lift up front..
I set the pinon at about 3 degrees up when welding the link bars at ride height, the pinion barely moves at all through the whole travel because the upper and lower link bars are pretty close to being the same length which helps minimize pinion change.

I didn't see an issue with chopping the rail while 3 wheeling. It's not exactly a super structural piece, as the supports for the shock tower are in tact, and the only thing is really holds is the fender. Although, you can never be too careful, maybe I'll do the other side as you suggested.

Yea, I hammered mine initially, and again like the rears this may have been a tad overboard, but the car should be able to roll with the frame rails touching the ground now. :-) Maybe I'll need to section those next! haha

Thanks, they are currently gold work bolts, they are coming out and I'll be putting in my own Titanium fasteners either Gold or Purple, haven't decided yet. Might do it like the SL's and one side Gold, and the other Purple.... we shall see. Also, thinking about changing up the faces possibly and painting one set of spokes.

I like the idea with both colors on separates sides. Especially with the gold calipers it will tie in. Might as well get matching gold lug nuts and other side purple caliper and lugs. Now that will be crazy lol

Haha, I will be using our newly redesigned Purple and Gold lugs that will match the wheel bolts:

Yes, they are are a 2 piece welded wheel, however Work uses fake plastic bolts on their 2 piece welded wheels, just to dress them up. They are threaded and you can replace them (even while the wheel is mounted on the car, since they do nothing structurally).

That looks good this is some serious work, but its good to see the U.S. Vip scene continue to grow and get more and more aggresive.

So happy with the rear fitment!! I need to buy some camber arms and toe arms as the toe is super out of wack. Camber is natural in the pic.
I'm also working on figuring out a solution for the front upper control arms to get the camber to match the rear.

Well, I have made some progress... The front inner radius is finished on both sides, still need to tidy up the engine bay and make everything look pretty.
Also, I now have 6 fenders that I will use to make a set of 2... haha two original, two I'm using for the vent/light, and two for the flares.
Still working on figuring out a solution for the fuca's...

No great option to getting -8ish thats readily available. I could cut and reweld but the bushings are fucked on my oem's and with the price of bushing kits I am think I'd be better off modifying and aftermarket piece, at least they will have heim joints.

the es z32 bushings aren't pricey at all. or you could use the super pro with the camber adjustment, which would allow you to dial it in a bit, but they are a bit pricey.

@JZZ - we have radiused fender flares with a +20mm bulge. Give me a heads up and maybe we can help you out with your bad ass g50 build!
I'm using s14 rear spindles.
Coilover mount will be different from fork type to straight rod bushing type. You will also need new ball joints for the rear lower control arms since the q's spindles are tapered and the s14's aren't. Everything else is good to go. I'm running oem nissan s14 just to clarify. Nothing aftermarket. I'm 1.5k miles in after install and its been smooth sailing.
Give me a heads up and I can give you more feedback on how I did my setup including product codes for the ball joints.

I was considering using these spindles, more to gain another caliper but they are also a true drop spindle:

i considered using the pbm ones as well a while back, but i would stay away from them now. the bolt and stud type lower mount puts a lot of strain on the lower bushing in the coilover at extreme angles. they should have made these with the fork style.

Starter on the front fenders finally:

SO as you can see below, the camber up front wasn't cutting it. I was using the Power Trix FUCA which I modified to gain more camber (pictured below):

That being the case, I decided to try and modify the OEM FUCA to accommodate to necessary camber (which turned out near perfect thanks to 99 GS3 on here). I will be adding ES bushings if I decide to stay with this option:

Now, the camber matches front and rear, and the wheel will fit nicely behind the flare:

This was a very exciting moment for me, I've been staring at this bumper for months now. I test fit it on Sunday and I have to admit its the best fitting fiberglass bumper I've ever come across. Very Happy with it, and keep in mind the side skirt was just hanging on by the door in the pic:

JZZ has not been paying attention to finishing this car because both he and I have been spending the spare time helping a friend with a GTE IS300 build.. I haven't touched my car or truck projects in months either, but the IS now runs and is close to complete so hopefully some progress here will come pretty soon..

OK so I finally made up my mind on what to do about tubbing the front fenders... as I didn't want a typical trailer fender tub look, it's just not for me. So after some debate I purchased a Q45 front clip cut behind the shock towers. Here's basically the process, although it looks fairly simple I have about 100 hours or so in the front tubs :(
Also, when I had originally planned for the car to be finished for Canibeat last year, I was going to skip doing this in order to have the car finished, I'm kinda glad I waited as I think it worked out better in the end.
Removed the engine, and got to cutting:
Removed the Core Support as the previous one was bent to shit from an accident some time ago:
Chopped up the new front clip to add almost 5 inches to my existing shocktower, basically extending the wheel tub 5" further forward:
Seeing as I have never done this before, I measured wrong:
Tacked into place:
Time to fill all the gaps and weld them up:
Grinding:
Fiberglass to smooth it out:
Sanding:
Bondo plus more sanding (the sanding never ends):
Doneish:
Inner Fender:
New core support installed:
Engine Bay is getting repainted as we speak, exterior will be sprayed after the engine is re-installed and the car gets the coilovers installed along with a final alignment, so any tweaks to the body work can be done before paint if necessary!

Engine Bay is getting repainted as we speak, exterior will be sprayed after the engine is re-installed and the car gets the coilovers installed along with a final alignment, so any tweaks to the body work can be done before paint if necessary!
Should be back from having the bay painted this weekend :)

Really nice alternative to tubbing, it's always great to get things look like OEM'ish. Superb :D
Quick q about the IS: why didn't you upgrade/replace the crank pulley? Those have the tendency to split after 15-20 years of use.... The past few years there has been a lot of cases around here with the non-vvti JZ.

Crank pulley was inspected and didn't shown any signs of deterioration so we went with it. It seems those issues can be hit or miss, I've had them fall apart in my hand before too.

The bay was finished up this weekend and you'll see the new color the car will be painted as well, Audi Ipanema Brown found on the R8, A7, Q5 etc:
This is what the color looks like indoors:
This is what the color looks like with sun + shade:
Give you an idea of how drastic the color changes depending on the lighting. I think it turned out great, looking forward to getting the exterior finished up now!

I wonder how many times I will redo the engine bay before the rest of the car is finished? Hopefully this will be the last.

I gotta have the holes, need them to put bolts in ;-) After all it is technically a display for our products.

Engine is back in, raised it almost an inch higher than it was to give the pan plenty of ground clearance.. it's still really dirty, I'm going to change up a few things in the bay this time around:

I think it will end up just being coilovers, the pistons are too short to use cups :( I'll be installing the coilovers by the end of the week, so we will see just how impossible this thing will be to drive this weekend providing I can get it running by then.

My SPL tie rod ends came in so I can get the car aligned now. Installing today, hopefully everything goes smoothly.
I'm not going to tuck the harness but I am going to rebuild the charge harness, and fuse box harness so it looks a bit nicer.
