Arowanas are nice looking fish. I accidentally killed my arowana a long time ago by over cleaning the filter. lol.

Nope, no chemicals. I just over cleaned the filter by spraying it with water for a very long time. I usually just spray the filter enough to get it clean, like 30 seconds with the garden hose on each side. When I cleaned it last, I did it for like 2 minutes each side and with the spray directly on the filter. Im guessing with the high pressure from the hose at the close range broke up some of the nylon fibers, which I found out in the morning that clouded the fish tank and killed the fish. I fucked up and I was a kid, so it happens. Killed a $70 dollar fish on accident :buck2:

The filter was one of those waterfall type of filters, not sure what they are really called. Theres a tube that sucks up the water, takes it through the filter, and back into the tank as some sort of waterfall while adding in oxygen.

im not sure how many of you believe in the "good/bad luck" you get from arowanas. these fish arent for beginners thats all i can say. i had a rare austrailian arowana(longer body w/red spots). mine was a jumper and damn for a baby it was strong as hell. mine died due to a heater malfunction which boiled him to death. >:(

Re: Anybody have Aquariums? Post up pictures!

dang...that sucks. i'm experienced ni keeping fish, had my tank for 2 years now, and it's well established. the LEGAL ones are actually kind of cheap if you get them as babies, i was told like $7-$10 depending on who you go to. gotat talk to the fish people around my area and see how much they are going for.

Re: Anybody have Aquariums? Post up pictures!

this is my 3rd arowana. the 1st 2 i bought myself and they both died by jumping out while I was sleeping. I woke up both times to see it dead on my carpet lol I was done with arowanas but this last one was a gift so, caoboy, id sale it to you but i dont want to hurt the persons feeling when they come by and see it gone lol

anyhow, how do you go about shipping it?? its over 12" long and silver. its like...oh i'd say...14"-15" long but it will grow larger/longer if its in a bigger tank.

Re: Anybody have Aquariums? Post up pictures!

oh dang 12" already? thats like 1/3 the final size haha. as for shipping it, someone i know had a koi shipped through a special shipper, over-night, in a sealed box with water in it. there's probably special shippers that do that kind of stuff, but i want a small frye, so i can raise it.

Re: Anybody have Aquariums? Post up pictures!

always put a brick on top of the tank or something heavy so the arowana does not jump out. also they are known to jump out when cleaning. as for shipping, overnight is the only choice plus a heat pack because the arowanas require warm temp.

pirahnas...hmmm i know a couple in my area but it all depends on which one u want. check out www.aquascapeonline.com for the different kinds.

u need to get some sting rays to add to the collection...

Re: Anybody have Aquariums? Post up pictures!

you can, if you have time, and patience. the cost of a setup isnt THAT MUCH more than if you were to buy the same size freshwater tank setup. you just need a couple extra things, like protein skimmers etc. they take WAY more time to set up and maintain than a freshwater tank. it's all about spending the weekend with it (or atleast a saturday) cleaning/making sure everything is balanced.

I say the best fish are those betas. All you need is a jar, a couple of them, some friends....and let the betting begin ;)

Re: Anybody have Aquariums? Post up pictures!

not necessarily...u can find baby motoros (6") for like $80. plus the reason they're expensive is because in some parts of the US they are illegal because they are let loose in a lake/pond they'll destroy the habitat.
