Nice, you will be getting a call from me shortly for this.
let me know.
Do you sell just the cups alone?
Do you sell just the cups alone?
unfortunately no. it must be purchased as a complete kit.
pmd:biggthumpup:
I want this so badly Mike. Maybe when the restaurant gets poppin' I will swoop them up.
slang them pies son!
Im really feelin the cup susspension :smiley-rofl:Thats all I'm sayin
My type of suspension as long as I don't stunt only while parked.
OG what is the cup dimensions? also what was the total lift in inches? Springs are included? I'd assume using shorter springs is necessary. Also on my Y33 the front shock shaft is pretty thick. Does that matter?
working on getting some of the answers i don't have specifics for. there are at least 2 sizes of cups. they are custom fit to your coilovers so the inverted damper shouldn't be an issue. swift springs are included with the installation. actual lift will vary by suspension.
normal 5" diameter x 3" stroke small 4.5" diameter x 3" stroke
updated.
How are these comparable to Platinum VIP Cups?
as far as function all cups pretty much do the same thing. as far as build quality i haven't seen platinum's cups in person, but judging by umbrella's build quality i don't think it can get much better if any.
OG, you the man!! can't wait till I get my setup.
thanks for being patient. sorry for the delay. can't wait to get a couple of these setups on the street.
Assuming already having air + coilovers, could you run a small spring under the bags and it'll be the same concept as the air cup suspension? Whats the difference between a air cup and a air bag? I understand that you shouldn't drive with the air inflated over springs. I only interested in parking and driving low while having the easy lift to get over obstacles.

Basically you jus stated why cups would be perfect for what you want.
I only interested in parking and driving low while having the easy lift to get over obstacles.
The difference between bags and cups is that bags replace your springs. Cups isn't really an air bag system, it's pretty much a fully functiond coil-over system w/ a small bag that can raise the car to clearobstacles. The cup system allows you to have the stiffness of springs to ride at the lowest desired height. When you have only an airbag as your means of travel, bags are made of rubber and can't provide the same stiffness that springs can provide. at least this is my understanding of the 2 I'm curious to see how my next setup (coil-overs+bags) we'll benifit me over my traditional bag setup I have now

What I trying to see is instead of buying a whole air cup kit, why not just add a small spring below my existing airbag so I safely drive on 0 psi. I'm only asking asking hypothetically so not to knock on this product. I've been thinking about selling my current setup to get this. Also, based on my not-so-depth research, a air cup is a small metal air piston vs a small airbag.
i'm not sure about how air works, but are bags rated to be able to drive at 0psi? will there be issues with clearance and such? i'd imagine bag + spring height would be an issue with this setup too, but i really have no idea. i think tanabe sells something similar -- the air cobra? is that what it's called? you can take a look at that to get an idea, i'd imagine
Also, based on my not-so-depth research, a air cup is a small metal air piston vs a small airbag.
yep, that's true
There's some type of air suspension with coils in the new VIP Car or VIP Style. I can't remember which one. I'm sure it would work, but I'd assume that the coil spring would compress the airbag prior to actually compressing itself. You can ride on air at 0psi. I do believe the UAS bags have internal bumpstops.
KW has a spring+bag combo and the tanabe does as well, but i still believe cups are the better system. i dont wanna clog up this sale thread with info on competitors so feel free to delete my comment if needed.
0 psi = no travel and a rough bouncy ride Same as a shitty cut spring job This is one of the issues I have w/ my set now. I can only ride so low before there's not enough air in the bags for enough travel play. ANything less and I'm hoping all over the place

i understand what shamini is asking. in theroy it makes sense, but in practice i doubt it would turn out well. if you were running a spring as the major suspension component it would need to be stiff enough to support the car (no helper springs). this limits your options, afaik a 4 inch spring is the shortest option available (possible coil bind issues?), assuming you are using a uas bag as your lift mechanism, you'd be looking at ~9" total overall length collapsed, which would probably intefere with your overall length adjustment. there would also be a lot of wasted range with a typical bag, since the suspension would top out long before the bag was fully inflated i would think.
thanks for being patient. sorry for the delay. can't wait to get a couple of these setups on the street.
No problem! Thanks for all your help...
not trying to thread jack but basically these works with any coilovers on the market? do the cups come in 14.2mm shaft diameter and 15.8mm shaft diameter?
they are custom fit to each coilover. honestly, i'm not sure of the limitations on diameter but i don't see an issue with 14.2 and 15.8.
no group buy tho??
nah... the margin on these are small and and both umbrella and i are small company. we are trying to maintain the value of the product by staying pretty strict on pricing. no one wants to pay $3150 when their buddy got it in a group buy for $2900. what i can do is offer discounts on coilovers if purchased at the same time or discounted installs for locals.
I don't actually own the car right now but should be picking up an ls460 soon hopefully. Would you have a kit for the car or could you get one? I would need the front and back with coilovers. I'm local and can go to you for install. How much would I be looking at? just curious.
ls460 won't be a problem. you'll be looking at about $5k installed.
Good to know. When I'm ready, You'll get a call for sure.
sounds good.
Wish u guys are local to me :( anyways GLWS!
we ship worldwide (except australia for umbrella) and install is 95% plug and play. if you can't handle it any mildly competant shop can.
+1 for Mike's service too :)
thanks russ. i'll check on your order again today. sorry for the delay.
thanks russ. i'll check on your order again today. sorry for the delay.
Put me down for a front set up pretty soon! Hopefully the production picks up soon ! I'll even put down a deposit if you need one inorder to get the set if bit the entire amount! Thanks for the help!

I've had this kit on my NSX with TEIN Flex for about 2 years now. No issues and couldn't live without it! Here's a video my friend did of my car: http://vimeo.com/7665186 6 by synth19, on Flickr
interesting synth..seeing your car on acurazine i never knew you had the cup system, nor did i know you had such crazy bbk!!! haha i do believe umbrella started with nsx application right?
yea it started on the nsex

He started this kit for NSX. It's a great solution for those already on coils and want to have the flexibility of raising their car when confronted with obstacles. I have the front and rear. I NEVER scrape.
Would be nice if they actually produced the item though... Been waiting 6 months and still no cups. :(
Would be nice if they actually produced the item though... Been waiting 6 months and still no cups. :(
This is true. My apologies again Russ (for about the 1,000,000th time). Since I have been starting to get more frequent requests let me address this publicly. I am not taking orders on Umbrella products until previous orders have been filled. There were production issues which took way too long to resolve and have caused a backorder situation. I have remained in contact with Ravi, and have faith that he is doing everything he can, but despite how great I think the product is I am not willing to knowingly jeaporadize my reputation for anyone. I am going to lock this thread for now, and will reopen it once things are back online. If anyone has any questions regarding the product feel free to PM me, but, again, no orders will be taken.
