milling back wheel hub pads
just wanna hear members thoughts on this.
are a lot of guys doing this?
it just doesn't seem safe or as secure when a few mm of the hub is shaved off.
for those who did this, any of you have problems in the long run?

i've heard of up to 15mm w/o issues. it will depend on the wheels though... 15mm off a thick disk could be better than 5 mm on a thin one.

i did 15mm on my old MAE's, but those fuckers had pads that were huuuuuge. the wheel shop probably could've done another 5mm and they'd have been OK

my friend did it to his old wheels.
its actually the 20" ordens in the FS section
it all depends on how much pad u have. low disk has barely any while high disk has a ton

Yessir thats me, it all depends on the pad, the most I got was 5mm. Take it to any wheel shop and they should be able to tell you. GL

I think it has to do alot more with the distance between the contacting pad face to the point where the lug nuts sits. You can have a high disk and a Low Disk and still have same pad face to lug nut distance. Just because you have a thick pad doesn't necessarily mean you can cut more.
Like you guys have seen wheels where the disk are different and the lug nuts are exposed different amounts. That's because you can only go so much out on the lug nut to pad face because of stud lengths.

Exactly. A high disc won't necessarily mean you can shave more material.
Some wheels like my Weds Kranze Cerberus II (MID and WSlo) you could only shave 3mm or so before hitting the lug seat.

You can also if you want have a machine shop make new seats. I have seen it done a few times. But you freeze them stick them in cut how you want and weld them in from the back. I want jay-z lip so I will be doing this since they don't make my wheels anymore. And my machinest is the bestest lol

not when you press it in with a ton of pressure and cryoing the seats before they go in then welding is makes it that much more secure than the aluminum studs they go on

you can use new seat inserts after having the original seats pressed/drilled out (depending on the original). never seen them welded in though, they're made to press in similar to wheel studs.

If you remove too much material, you'll completely blow through the lug seat area and have lug holes right through the wheel center with nothing to support seat inserts. Pad height really has nothing to do with how much you can shave - ultimately, the lug nuts (or bolts) need something to sit on.

Instead of milling and making new seat plugs just shorten the length of the arms and strut tower holes. It will shorten the turning radius by a bit but who gives a shit lol
