#369493Y33 Changing Automatic Transmission Fluid
Today I went out and bought about 6qts of Valvoline Dexron/Merc III fluid. On the back it had Infiniti (all models) listed.I looked at my service manual and it calls for Nissan Matic-D ATF. But in fine print at the bottom said if not available then any Dexron/Mercon III is sufficient.
I drove the car around the neighborhood warming up the car/tranny. I pulled it in and lifted the front left corner enough to fit under and unbolted the 19mm drain bolt. Use a jack stand just incase. I drained for about 15minutes. Took the old copper crush washer out and put on a new one and put the bolt back. I checked how much fluid came out and it was only 3.25qts. WTF? That's all? I was expecting atleast 5qts to come out. So I just filled it through the dipstick good neck with the same amount.
What I don't get it is the manual says the tranny uses 11 1/8qts new but only 3.25qts came out. I know some is probably in the torque converter and some just lining the walls and channels. I'm going to drive home tonight and check the dip stick at the HOT level.
Changing A/T Fluid
1. Warm up A/T fluid.
2. Stop engine.
3. Drain A/T fluid from drain plug and refill with new A/T fluid.
Always refill same volume with drained fluid.
Fluid grade:
Nissan Matic “D” (Continental U.S. and Alaska) or
Canada Nissan Automatic Transmission Fluid
Refer to “RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND
LUBRICANTS”, MA-8.
Fluid capacity (With torque converter):
10.5 (11-1/8 US qt, 9-1/4 Imp qt)
Drain plug:
: 29 - 39 N×m (3.0 - 4.0 kg-m, 22 - 29 ft-lb)
4. Run engine at idle speed for five minutes.
5. Check fluid level and condition. Refer to “Checking A/T Fluid”.
If fluid is still dirty, repeat step 2. through 5.
After seeing number 5 maybe I'll do it one more time but after a long drive.
