Rear wheel well questions for 2GS owners and maybe other platforms.

Sup community! I have one big big question for the 2GS owners and possibly other platforms if they can relate.

What do you guys do to your rear wheel well for your rear wheel's fitment? I heard some people roll (if that's possible), hammer, and/or they get it cut open and widened out with extra metal replaced.

I don't plan on seeing a body shop anytime soon and I am asking this because my previous wheel setup keeps getting stuck when I go up a driveway and one of the rear's sink in the wheel well. Along with that, the lips on my wheel hits the inner wheel well when I hit small dips (yes I did the camber and shaving).

My next wheel setup will be a little bit bigger and somewhat aggressive, offset in the single positive digit.
I am running coilover suspension, so hopefully I get response from static riders. Beause I know guys with air can get away from petty theft like this. -_-

I hope I didn't loose anybody on this.

I cut my rears on my LS and used an 80 grit flap disc from homedepot, on a grinder and sanded it flat and hammered the inner metal just above the inside where it was grinded.

I beat to shit the inside of my fender well, not the lip portion, but higher up theres a section that protrudes out a bit. I just hammered that section till it was flat and it stopped hitting. I should probably lay on a coat of spray paint or something to protect it

Thanks Joe. I think I might go this way myself, since I'm labeling my car an official beater now.

Are you referring to that lip of the fender or inside inside of the wheel wheel.

My rear fender has been cut and shaved years ago. I'm just curious about what people do to the inner wheel well.

I see, yeah I still dunno whether I'm going to do the roller/pull method or just hammer it. Thanks for the info!

Cool thanks a bunch Vincent for chiming. Knowing you have/had a 2GS back then with those AME, I had a feeling you would have a result to the same issues I'm having.

Awesome! Yeah any help, info, comments, and/or flames are welcome!

Like I said I know the guys rolling on air pretty much don't have go through this problem. If not then maybe their fitment was just a butter on the pan with hella clearance. I just don't want my new set of wheels to get raped around the lip from the wheel well like right when I install them. I also don't want to get stuck, 3 wheelin up driveways as often.

Surprise vipdout hasn't said anything; he just about have done it all. I would just pm him. I only ran 10.5 +18 so I doubt my advice could help, but I cut, rolled and pulled. It solved my issue but looked hacked a lil. My advice is to just do it right the first time and flare it. Good luck!

That's because he's on air. If you read my first post, I noted that this era won't relate much to air driven platforms because they can get away with it most of the time.

Shit Im on air and i have the same problem cause I ride slammed hahah. BTW you can use bump stops to keep the struts from going lower, but then the ride is gonna be harsh and you will prolly catch air if you hit a dip too fast.

i fully shaved my rear outer lip and notched the tub on the inner fender. if you do this, you want to get it welded back because moisture could set in. im totally not a fan of duck bill rear fenders, i like smooth body lines with semi- masssive wheels. my setup in the rear is 19x11+23 on a 265-30-19 nankang

full slam, no rub, with passengers....

wrd. i really don't like the flares on some of the 2gs's around. it disrupts the stock bodyline too much.
