new member needing help deciding which model cima to purchase.

hey hows it goin everyone!
my name is nick and i recently picked up a new job and am making the money to start on a vip..i currently own a '95 supra and love it, but looking to start on a four door. i really want to pick up a y33 q45,97-01.my question is ive been looking and recently noticed a few minor diffrences between between q45's in that year range.. such as headlights and tailights. in the year ranger 97-01 is there any major diffrences?the main i can diffrence i can tell is the taillights go into the trunk on some years,and some stay on the quarter panel. and some headlights have a black background and some silver/clear. which years between 97-01 should i look into?

it all depends what you find, theres a couple of differences between those years,just chose the one you like. me i looked at no lie like 15 q45's and got a 97 instead of newer ones i saw cause of the condition.

well i hope you really do buy a cima considering you dedicated your SN to it... but the major differences are no that major at all... from the top of my head.... 

96.5-98 - different tail lights, headlights, rear seats dont have adjustable head rest, no heated seats, color matched sun roof, different radio (no analog), but they have a woodgrain bezel instead of matte black (i think) and are probably dirt cheap right now, under 4k. 

99-01- some have the xenon head lights, adjustable head light leveler, powered rear sunshade, a better looking trunk (haha, well at least me and pancakes think so), some models have the adjustable dampening (i believe touring only) which isn't that important either if your going to change out the suspension, what else... i don't know if heated seats is an option or if it came standard, vsp or whatever that traction control thing is called, 

2000-01 has wood grain steering wheel, anniversary has lighter colored woodgrain,  xenon headlights without black housing, or....... you could just look at wiki

good luck, have fun. i picked my 99 just cuz it had more options. but, you could always build a 97 to look like a 99 just because a lot of people go from 99 to 97.

only thing I'd add is that heated seats were available in the 97-98, but only on Touring model (which I had).

But like SFL stated, the best one is the one that's in the best condition for the money.   You might want an 01, but find a 99 that you just can't pass up, or vice versa.  The differences are minor cosmetic things and all are interchangeable so you can put whichever headlights, tail lights, trunk, etc. that you like on any year.

My 97 (non touring model) has heated seats

Whenever my girl is riding with me and starts nagging,  I turn hers on without her seeing and once she gets hot she will shut up and just stare at me,  and I have peace n quiet again lol

one of the most expensive oem things to swap onto our cars is the xenon/hid headlights. i would get a car that already comes with them, cuz that will be an extra $500 or so to swap out later.

better is completely individual. i would look in here at the y33 and the f50 aero thread and see if you can get a feel for the type of build you wanna do, and which model appeals to you more.

Honestly, its apples and orange b/t each model especially when you're planning to do a build. Your resources should determine what year you should go with. Remember you want  to focus your bread towards your build, not making repairs. Anybody would agree the most successful builds here took some time try not rush anything. Good Luck homie and Welcome.

What aere are you in?

i am in monrovia, saw it in arcadia...i also saw another q45, full nissan cima badges,grill, dark tint,rain guards,stock rims,curtains,vip style sticker on rear window... all these q45s in my area are driving me crazy! hahaha

there are at least 3 q45's between monrovia and arcadia all down by burger basket..........

oh yeah! therer is one right next to burger basket, i rarly see that one anymore.
the one i was just talking about is in monrovia, and cheez80's brother in arcaida...

I have a neighbor selling a burgundy 97-98 with 20" FX wheels for like $3500. I was gonna hit him up and see if he wanted help getting it lowered but then I saw the for sale sign on the glass the other day.  Looks pretty decent.  I've seen them with the FX wheels lowered, it's not a bad look.

which yeah came with black interior? every single one ive looked at has grey or tan.. and ive only seen one in the for sale section here with black interior...

most 97 98s i have seen have black. OOOrrrrr you can get a newer one, and put black interior in it with a color that did not have black interior and be minty fresh with awesome

gotcha, i think the only ones iv e seen that have black are black/black,Burgundy/black.
exterior color im looking for is the beige brown color or silver.

I have seen silver with black, but as a 99 and up

no, they dont only the newer ones do. and like stated, they are pricey!

-1997 q45 touring
-165,000 miles
-sliver/black interior(perfect condition)
-dent in driver quarter panel.
-asking 4300.
 
if everything checks out should i hop on it?
my concern is i belive the 97's do not have xenon lights, is it possible to convert to the black house xenon lights?
if no rear windor shade oh well..
analog clock?
and do 97 have the bigger rear tailights the go into the trunk hatch?

how much would i be looking at for the complete headlight conversion? looked for it couldnt find much.

i think ive made up my mind,this 97 im lookin at seems really nice, miles are up there but if it runs good im sold.. from the pictures the interior looks perfect! theres a nice dent on the drive quarter panel that i will have to get taken care of though. it has everything i want besides factory xenon lights analog clock/rear shade..but hey,close enough with the perfect condition black interior.
anything else i should check out when i go look at it tommorw?
any down sides to a 97 over other years?
