M45 drift car

Chris Forsberg is at it again with this creation. I want to say I was in some aid of helping him to go on with the project; due to the fact i asked him many VK engine questions about when I wanted to drift my Q. (I would like to think so anyway..) haha well it is awesome for sure! And hopefully maybe down the road I can follow his foot steps too.

I will one day prevail and drift a big sedan. I been wanting to do this since the old vsc and people mocked and ridiculed me of the want of a Y34 drift car.

Your right he's at it again, thats ridiculous! That M weighed 4003.6 lbs before mods yet the transitions are very smooth and seamless. Although, Im curious how this car will battle with the lighter LS1 powered S chassis. It would sick be to see him and Mark go at it. JZS16(LS)1 vs M56! Thanks for sharing KM.

Its a 350z tranny mated to a VK56.

Nice choice on seat belts. He brought one of his cars (Sears sponsored chop-top Z) to our annual show at Simpson a few years back.

The new 2011 Formula Drift rulebook has been released today and one  of the bigger changes to the rule book fall into this 9.1 section that  covers Tire Size Regulation and a new weight/tire chassis rule. I think  this is a fantastic rule to keep teams from strip weighting their  vehicles and running a huge tire in the future. This should effect some  of the bigger teams in the series for the 2011 Formula Drift series.

 [B]TIRE SIZE REGULATION[/B]
 Cars are limited to the size of the rear tire that can be used, depending on the weight
 of the vehicle. There are 7 weight classes, each spanning 200 lbs. A car must be
 track-ready, and running when it is weighed and registered to a weight class. A car will
 be weighed without the driver, and once the car is registered to a weight class, it will
 be recorded, and issued a class-specific sticker that must be displayed prominently on
 the windshield. A car’s weight may fluctuate within the limits of it’s weight class, but it
 can never weigh less than the minimum weight for its’ registered class. Tire sizes are
 AS MEASURED in mm, across the span of the contact patch. Tires will be measured
 on the rim, while on the car, while the car is on the ground. Tire size must not exceed
 the maximum size dictated by class at any time on track. Tire size will be measured
 and verified on track before the start of every tandem round. A Formula D official may
 also check tire size at any time during the event.

 2000-2199lbs up to 215mm tire width
 2200-2399lbs up to 235mm tire width
 2400-2599lbs up to 255mm tire width
 2600-2799lbs up to 275mm tire width
 2800-2999lbs up to 295mm tire width
 3000-3199lbs up to 315mm tire width
 3200-3399lbs up to 335mm tire width





so basicly, light cars with big engine and thin tires... not that good

Tight! finally.. it got so crazy to the point where big teams can spend money on a car which would be better suit doing time attack, than to have something where most people can relate too. Thats what I loved about D1, is their cars are fully prepped out, but ones you could drive every day if you wanted too. FD cars were becoming more nascar than cars that drift.

Glad to see they are forcing that rule a bit. I think they are doing it cause they are losing out on people who can compete. They were handing out fd licenses to people who didnt even qualify cause they didnt have enough people to fill the spot haha. 

Touring car got the same way. They use to be all out crazy cars from the beginning, and then they were losing funding of teams cause it was to much money so they died it down to what you see now on TV. which is a lot less action and not so well equipped cars. went from 19in monolug to 17in 5lug to name an example.
