It's par for the course. This isn't new for them, or Japan as a whole. Pride is huge no matter where you come from or what walk of life.

I agree it's good but you can't forget about the big picture. Yakuza is about making money in the long run. Just like everyone else in the region, I am sure they are taking a hit financially so it's in their best interest to get things back to normal as soon as possible. I have a few yakuza friends in the yokohama region and one thing they have always told me is to never accept a free handout from a yakuza member. One day and you never know when it's going to happen they will come looking for you to return the "favor".
But still having said all that, its still heart warming to see them get involved in a positive light.

Under normal circumstances..I'd completely agree. But these are far from normal, but getting life back to being profitable is always in their best interest.

I wonder how the media got ahold of this info. From the read it sounds like they like to keep things low key. I'm sure the supplies didn't say "compliments from your local yakuza extortionist" because at the end of the day they are still a crime syndicate and frowned upon.

From the article looks like there is korean blood in the yakuza from ancestors since koreans living in japan are looked low upon also from way back when... The Japanese are pretty racist. Koreans born and raised in korea have 2 names...korean and japanese. They use the Japanese name in public because they will be looked down upon if known they are korean.
I'm sure there are some japanese blood in some koreans also when Japan colonized korea back in the early 1900s and made the korean woman into "comfort" woman. Basically put them in a house for the japanese soldiers to fuck them.
