Losing weight/gaining muscle thread
Wondering if there are any fit/health-concious vsc'ers in here and what your routines and eating habits are lookin like. I lost 30lbs these past few months after joining jiujitsu
feels good, man.

Yea I've been pretty active in working out. I recently lost 80-90lbs over the past year. It takes some hard work and dedication, but it is definitely possible to change.
As far as losing weight and gaining muscle, the basic principles are counter productive. I, like so many others, wanted to do it all at once. I would suggest into phasing. Do a cutting session (calorie deficit), then switch up your diet and go into a muscle building (calorie surplus), then back to cutting. Just make sure you are doing the right amount of lifting, otherwise that surplus calories will go to fat instead of lean muscle. Ive found that when losing weight it seems like I am gaining muscle, when really Im just losing fat that was over it.
Overall my diet isnt crazy. I stick to turkey/chicken and lean white meats if I can, but I also mix it up at times. As Im cutting I am doing around 1700 calorie diet. Bulking back up is around 2500 a day. I like it for the simple fact that switching around keeps my diet changing, and "kick starts" the weight loss when I go back.
I dont know if you have access, but the best thing I did was get hydrostatic weighed. Forget those body fat scales. It tells you pretty precisely (down to 3% or so) what your body fat is. It helps when getting compared later to see how much muscle youve gained, and how much fat you lost.

I've been trying to gain weight most of my life. I know alot of it has to do w/ eating the right foods and right times but that shit gets expensive! I love to eat though! I'm at a buck 55-58. My goal is around 180. I've tried whey proteins and all that but haven't gone hard w/ it. + side is that I'm really cut and have zero to no body fat, but I would love to bulk up. I was hitting the gym pretty hard but I've stopped over the last 3 months :( hoping to get back soon

i've been going to the gym and cutting a lot of booze/soda/fried foods from my diet, went from 220 at the beginning of the year to 205 as of yesterday. arms and legs are a lot tighter and my gut is quite a bit smaller, i've lost about an inch off my waist. i think i'll be in medium shirts and 33-34 inch waist by the end of may if i keep it up. i was a lean 170 about 5 years ago , living the good life isn't always so good lol.
i rotate between lower body and upper body, and i keep my weights pretty low, i haven't even attempted to max, but that's mostly cuz i'm fat and trying to keep my workout more cardio than actual building.
upper: 55 lb dumbbell incline press 3x10, 40 lb pec. butterfly 4x10 on a bench, 80 lb 3x10 shoulder shrugs, 45 3x10 upright curls.
lower: 165 squat 3x10, 85 lb leg curl 4x10, 95 lb. 3x10 leg extension, 360 3x10 leg press/calf raise.
about a 1 mile/15-20 jog on the treadmill and some kind of ab work everyday, but i need to ramp it up, my middle section is really weak. c&c welcome. i'm gonna start bulking this summer, any sup reccomendations?

Funny that this shit popped up now... I'm on the same road at the moment.
I've just ended a low-calorie fast, for six weeks I only drank protein/vitamin+ "shakes" with around 500 kcal per day. Went from 258 to 213 lbs, so 45 pounds in six weeks
Now I'm stepping up to around 1000 kcal/day and adding a warm meal to my diet, mostly good proteins. This, with the "shakes", should keep my body in ketose-state, but it should make me able to start a light aerobic exercise routine. I'm going to be in this "step" only for two weeks, to see how my body reacts.
Next step is to start adding "enough" protein/kcal to make my body withstand muscle build-up. Then I can get back to the gym after a 9 year break woohoo =)
I still got some work ahead of me to reach my desired goal. I still have to lose around 40lbs of body fat and gain atleast 20lbs of muscle... Atleast I have managed to get the ball rolling after 5 years of wallowing in procrastination.

At one point I was up to 315lbs, but gross and out of shape. About 2-3 years ago I made a lifestyle change. Cut out certain things forever (soda, fast food, chips, etc) and changed to a more active lifestyle. Got down to 220, same weight as highschool (I am 6'6" so 220 = normal). Did it all natural too, pretty happy about that. Let the horse run!!!

3 plates each side + bar = 315lbs. I wish I could do 350lbs. But 3 plates is my 1 rep max. I dont understand what you mean by series though

I usually don't count 1 rep as a max. minimum 3. You gain nothing with doing 1.

Yeah I meant repetitions. So your doing your std. routine and end with a one max lift?

I train Muay Thai so that's all the Cardio I need since I'm not trying to get crazy... (lost 40lbs)
Now I'm trying to gain muscle for the last few months, protein'n it up and hitting basic weights and resistance at the local gyms here. So far so good!

protein is the key...I eat 1gram=1lb of body weight but when I want to start to gain mass, I'll up that.

Its mostly about the dieting guys.... diet+hard work+determination+dedication= goals conquered. I trained at the famous Wand Fight Team (Wanderlei Silva) camp for a year and went from 185lbs. pure fat to ripped at 170lbs. 10% body fat in about 4months. Couldn't have done it without DIETING

P90X and Insanity are both good workouts. They have a strong cardio focus so don't any bulk muscle gain. It is definitely a good way to tone up though it seems.

For me i lost 15lbs total with just weight lifting and dieting, but put on a decent amount of muscle and strength, which means i lost alot more than 15lbs of body fat while gaining muscle

^ be sure you heal completely before you start lifting heavy again. In the mean time, you can take this time to just do cardiovascular exercises to decrease that bodyfat.
I absolutely hate doing cardio but I know I need to do it to get my body fat down..

Dance Central 2-3 times a week for 30-45min
Roller Skate for 1-2hrs once a week.
hovering around 15%BF and 24BMI
Biggest thing is calories and fat calories.
I try to burn as more calories than I consume.
Now just want to work on dropping Body fat.
