LS 460 VS CLS 55 AMG

I am in the market for another car but i will only consider the 2 above since they are the only ones that i would buy so hear me out .. I am not saying that this is with in the next week but its coming to a hault pretty soon .:biggthumpup:

I am surprised you even pitted these two together.. CLS all day.. everyone and there mom has a LS460. dont get me wrong.. cool and all.. but I would get a 99 up Bentley Arnage!!! Same price and cooler.

An AMG out of warranty = never for me.
LS430 all day if you want reliability.
CLS if you want better handling and more repairs.

All depends on your plans for it. Keep it stock? Not likely. In which case why 2 luxury cars?
If you want performance at that price there's tonnes of options ... cough Z06 cough...

My recommendation, go all in on the M and buy something more performance oriented for when you get the itch.

i kinda agree with schnitz on actually modding your y34 and buying a performance car if you have the urge.  
 
between the 2, its a tough call.  Cls has the nicer exterior (only marginally..both are nice, but cls has more presence) but ls460 has the nicer interior by a HUGE margin.  Cls will be harder to maintain and harder to mod, but performance wise will be fun.  If youre buying a family car, CLS also has a MUCH smaller cabin...if youre on a budget of sorts, cls will be much more costly to maintain.

Mercedes (especially the CLS) are a nightmare to work on. If you like headaches and frustration when you build the car, buy the merc. If you want it to be easy and clean, buy the LS.

If I could afford it, I'd buy the LS and not even consider the CLS. The CLS is nice looking for sure, but the LS interior is awesome and huge and the LS is a handsome big car. I've never met you Yudi, but I hear your not a small fella, so I would think interior room is important. As for body, if you're going to mod it, the LS w/ the treatment is so sick and it will snap just as many necks IMO.

your stuck with a weird bolt pattern for either of your options here, so I wouldnt count it as a negative on the ls side.

You know im a lexus guy, and everything i could say has already been said, get the 460! not THAT many people have them yet lololol

the bolt pattern is 5x120 vs 5x112, correct?

i thought about this before i picked up the 600h -- i was comparing a w220 s65 vs a 460/600h. i got scared of the maintenance issues that some of the guys were having on mbworld and 10 mpg would've killed me. i think i made the right choice for me :P

also, i'm fat and getting in and out of a CLS is annoying :P

LS all the way :biggthumpup: as mentioned before much more interior room and its a big body sedan with great lines & styling aswell as perfect for VIPCAR modding and lexus' reliabilty is a big factor..The CLS has a unique body when modded correctly makes one of the best models benz has imo. Maintence upkeep costs will hit u below the belt the lack of headroom and the slight gas pedal delay when u drive the CLS would drive me crazy

I never had problem with benzs really and some what easy to work on. They are cars not women

i vote for a VG30DETT swap for your Y34, that way you keep the wow factor and amp it up a bit.  Find a good nissan shop and get an estimate. it can't cost anything more than 8k at this point considering you can probably use ur stock tranny or get an upgraded auto tt tranny, plus that engine is aged a bit. it should be cheap.  you'd be the nissan version of mr. executiv.lol

If money is no object than CLS. AMG benzos just beat almost anything Lexus makes but lack the reliability a toyota has.

ME imo cls but im benz baised about pretty much anything. i also love the LS460 on my list as well to own. them 600 headlights dope. but the 460 is a lexus and a lexus no more. were as the CLS AMG is a AMG, power and luxury in one; thats what i like. plently of power mods to make to stupid fast as its the 5.5l s/c motor. and the cls looks absolutly dead gorgoues...in white as you said. yes its small but its soposed to be, its not a full sized saloon. As agi said get warrenty threw dealer or if you can find cert-preownd your perfect.

two different cars really.. Cant put the cls to the ls, maybe the S-class to the LS.. but its comparing the cleche' apples to oranges

CL-55 all day.  You see plenty of LS's done up...but not many CL 55's!

definitely go with warranty they have on site. if you like white, check out diamond white - kinda pearlish. good luck with your dilemma!

Just a FYI, the CLS will cost you more to mod (with Authentic parts).  Expect to pay $8k + for a nice body kit.  You will also turn heads with the CLS even in stock form where the LS will have to have rims and a drop to get the same attention.

Do what makes you happy.  If you need the space, LS460 but since you even suggested a CLS, you don't need the space

that's true -- nobody looks at me in my lowered 600 :P

widebody's observation about modding is correct too -- most cool jdm catback exhausts for the 460 are in the 2k range, but the brabus setup for w216 (i'm not sure how this translates to the cls, but i'm sure it's in the same range) is closer to 3400

whatever choice ur going with...ur still 'winning'....

Benz you can't go wrong.

I've always been a fan of lexus toyota and japanese cars but I'd actually pick the benz.
 
hopefully lexus toyota starts to revamp their design team and start getting really really really aggressive with their styling. the germans always seem to get it right and that is the main driver for their sales.
 
even the koreans are coming up strong with their designs in a really strong way.
