XJ8L: Operation DD Clean up
I love this car. Love it so much in fact that anyone can say its one of the cleanest they had ever seen. I am going to keep it stock for I love how awesome it is in OE form.
120k miles bought at 60k from fam. Owned for 5 years.
The mission? to keep it clean and crispy
Wheel wells.. so much dirt, and chipping sealant
First coat of wurth undercoat
Sealer done
Next Will be removal of the fender liners and scrub clean, and wax.

Doing the Valve cover gaskets. cause they be leeeeakin!
See? not good!
So clean inside for 120k
They have the old plastic tensioners, which are known to crack. I will fix these later since there is no aging or cracking going on. If there was fine hairline cracks.. I would change right away. Which is a common sign of pre failure along with pieces missing, and ending up in the oil pan.
and much needed spark plugs!

even though I use chevron all the time.. they still dirty! :(

Looks damn tidy mate!
I say if you want to do some mod's to it, go for it, but make sure you keep the standard parts to put back in, keep the mods simple, like lowered springs and shocks, and a neat set of wheels, so when you want it back stock, it is a simple swap and no-one would be the wiser.

For sure! It has xjr shocks was going to do springs to match. And possible 07 xj wheels which look like the ones on it but bigger.
Needs wood steering wheel wood shift knob a new rear view mirror cause the dye leaked out and ruined the leather around the shifter and console and seats. They say it's a recall but have not done it yet. It would be awesome if they replaced the seat leather cause of it. The dealer keeps wanting me to trade it in for a new one. But I keep saying no. It's my second jag and want a third. I sold the S type but would never sell this.

The wheel is darker than birdseye by far. The leather color obviously doesn't matter since a redye will make it what you want it to be and look good. That was my stock wheel. My current one is a retrofitted 2003 burl with matching custom burl shifter with MOP inlay and inlayed covington emblem. That's the reason I have the others. Honestly..make me an offer. Be fair and I'll be fair. Haha. I'm a very reasonable guy.

well after waiting what seemed like a billion years. I finally got the motor in.. just not in the car yet hahaha this week though!
I just hope all works out. it was laying on its side on a broken pallet when it was shipped. Everything was documented so if something is wrong.. well i get to wait another 2 months.
Fully rebuilt engine with upgraded timing chain tensioners and non nickasil coated cylinder walls, which means new piston sleeves and a full one year unlimited mile warranty and reimburse labor if something were to go wrong. woo woo. Another 130k to go and more hopefully. so far its got all new brakes trans service, suspension, tires, diff serviced.. You cant even get a 99 jaguar xjl for the price I put into the motor and services. Its like brand new baby! haha
That means I can go hard on the Q now I can get the Jag full operational again:giggity:

Just go light on this car (for now), drop and wheels and misc DIY things that you are good at. That is more than enough since its one of the rarest US chassis'. Work on the Q and when done, do more to the jag. I personally rather see the Jag done even though I am a huge F50 fan

yeah, same here. love the f50.. but the older I am getting day by day, I am realizing I have to do something to the chassis that would other wise be done in a car much nicer stock. Which, by all means is fine! it is totally creative nature that I have to feed.
I realize if I were to mod a jag xj8 I would buy another and do that. This one is way to clean of an example to ruin. Ruin I mean the purist in me that would rather just have a perfect clean example of a pristine car.
The list so far new on the car within the last few thousand miles is is:
uprated reman engine
alternator
thermostat
oil pump
water pump
full trans flush (looks perfect with no metal shavings!) so no need for reman or build
Same as diff
rotors and pads
shocks
sway bar bushings
engine mounts
radiator hoses
misc grommets replaced even though some were not needed
spark plugs
valve cover gaskets
plenum gaskets
fuel pump
fuel filter
battery
Things that need to be done:
new cup holder
new rear view mirror since dye leaked out and splashed and ruined the console and seats and shifter (they say its a recall not sure if that still holds true)
new steering wheel
new chrome drip rail for passenger side
new windshield (usually comes with removal of the mirror since deal says some break window when removing)
new headlights and fog lens to match the one i bought
new bumpers front and rear (someone clipped the back one in a parking lot. left a note which was nice. and front has some rock dings.
think that sums it up!

what I mean by it is, instead of taking a Infiniti and taking it to coach work status, why not start with something that is already there and putting your own flavor to it. But like I said, dont get me wrong I love doing it to the F50, just chasing higher quality for me to be happy is taking a toll and i am not happy with it. I should just start with a better chassis like an actual 06 where the leather is way way better quality. For me to actually want to keep it or the wood to be real carved wood not just veneer over plastic Cause I do like everything about the car looks wise and performance, just not the quality of the material used to build it so much.

So close to being done. The shop doing the work is detailing it. Which I feel weird about, but I demanded it. But it is just weird having people do work on your car when you have done it all your life too.
Will take the pics that look all like the ones I took already. Even though its a fresh engine it will look the same.. so why bother taking pics?? i have no idea lol.

Thought I would update with some pics. I had to run a new breather hose from the driver side valve cover. Something that was over looked when motor was swapped sadly. Did this, and cleaned out the little valve on valve cover. It was clogged so i used a thick metal wire to clean it out. ran the new hose, the old one cracked apart thanks to being plastic.
Then wiped everything down. I still need to wash a few things like the frame rails are a bit dusty. But not even my towel got all that dirty.
cant really tell but its a new motor in there seeing as the old one aesthetically everything was almost as clean.

Driver side bank cover is not on due to work from breather hose.
under the center cover it was pretty clean there too, dont mind the white zip tie
how about some close ups?
I think i need to repaint the 4.0 badge since the paint is wearing off a bit. But that is just minor details.

I bought a reman engine. I still have the old one from the car. It is super tempting to make it a race engine for a Radical SR8.
